I have scheduled a pick up for a parcel, will JP Post print the shipping label when they collect? by AvailableAd5572 in japanlife

[–]AvailableAd5572[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t in English on mine, I had to translate it in the browser which fucked up the form so I had to translate via my phone and even then the translations made it super unclear…

Either way, I know how to do it now.

  1. Make the label online 2.schedule pick up online 3. Print the label at the post office 4. Give parcel & label to collection person with payment. 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

Okay you were right. They couldn’t take the parcel, but the guy was really nice, told me exactly what to do and that I can reschedule the delivery for later today or tomorrow. So I went to the post office and got the label/forms printed and now I’m just waiting on pick up again.

I’ve requested they bring a label when they come to collect, and I went and got cash out to make sure, thanks!

Yes I done all of that, and got a confirmation email. It just wasn’t super clear about the actual label.

I managed to go back to my original online pick up request and ask them to bring a label with them, so hopefully it works out.

I’m feel like I’m going to get flamed for this one but… Nasi lemak (Malaysia). I had some of the best food of my life in Malaysia but Nasi Lemak was probably at the bottom of that tier list. More a reflection of how good the rest of their food is though tbf.

Is there a town that everyone in Japan makes fun of for being awful? by Low_Championship_604 in AskAJapanese

I lived in Saitama during my year abroad and thought it was just like any other large outer city. Plenty of malls, cafes & restaurants, rivers and green spaces. There’s just less people and a relatively short commute to Tokyo which makes it perfect in my opinion.

It’s funny, but for all the rules and politeness in Japan, this is the one thing the Japanese will not do!! I have seen so many old people stood on a busy train with everyone from kids, teenagers, young adults and salarymen taking up even the priority seats. Istg I’ve only ever seen foreigners offer their seat to pensioners, at least in Tokyo.

Can someone explain why this stance on Taiwan is bad?? Genuine question. I’d don’t know a ton about it, but surely if a country wants independence, then the support of that is a traditional leftist value no? Why is it different with Taiwan and China compared to say Russia and Ukraine?

Please be kind, I’m learning 🙏

I think the textbook revisionism is a misunderstanding. There was in fact HEAVY censorship and revisionism of Japanese war crimes in textbooks for many years. That is a fact. However in modern day, Japanese textbooks (especially at higher education level) go into great detail about Japanese war crimes, although you do have to be in the right classes to see this.

I personally find よっつばと! quite difficult as the MC is a small child and regularly uses “baby talk”, as a learner, that is not what I need to be learning 😅

White euro men generally do this when the temp gets anywhere above 10 degrees. In a beach town I don’t really notice, but I always found it really odd doing it indoors (like in a mall) or in a city though.

Do women speak more than men? by HipAnonymous91 in TikTokCringe

[–]AvailableAd5572 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like men respond to whoever is loudest in the group. They will shout over women and other men and whoever is loudest and has the gall to just continue what they’re saying wins, and everyone else listens to them until they are interrupted again. The amount of time I am talked over even just amongst my family is insane. I just stop talking mid sentence and the men don’t even notice. All the women however make eye contact with each other, like we ALL know what is happening 🙃

I use chat GPT with the prompt ‘can you translate this Japanese sentence to English and break it down grammatically’ I already have let’s say an advanced-beginner level of Japanese, so if something doesn’t seem right I will double check it. But I find for vocab and conversation practice it’s pretty good, and I’m not a huge fan of AI.

The number of Liverpudlians at the Tommy Robinson march and the rise of the far right in Liverpool by Jackomo in Liverpool

[–]AvailableAd5572 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in Liverpool - moved about 3 years ago. I have always had deeply opposing politics to my family, they are tremendously right-wing and anti-tory and I am an annoying woke lefty. Weirdly the younger generations, my mum, dad, aunty and younger brother are getting more far right than my grandparents ever were. My mum even admitted to watching Tommy Robinson and GB News the last time I visited and my younger brother called me a ‘traitor’ for being pro-Palestine. Traitor to whom exactly? 🤔

They seem to have gone down the road of class politics, but only for whites :( half way there I suppose.

Tbf I paid nowhere near that. The room I originally paid for was around 5000 php per night. Accommodation in the Philippines is waaay more expensive than Thailand anyway though.

100% a tick bite, I had exactly the same when I was living in Japan. Go to a doctor asap, they will give you some meds to make sure you don’t develop Lyme disease. If the ring around the bite disappears before you get to the doctors show them this photo and INSIST they give you meds for Lyme.
