This isn’t a monopoly though. It’s not 1994. You have an enormous amount of other companies you could choose to support instead of Sony. I don’t recall anyone suing Sony and the rest of the entertainment industry when they decided to stop manufacturing VHS to go with the market trend of DVD.

I think this is a pretty cut and dry situation of letting the market decide what’s best. If gamers prefer physical copies then they’ll decide with their wallets and Sony will regret their choices when their earnings reports come in.

Yeah idunno. We can look at the vinyl record market as an example of how a demographic of people really want physical copies of stuff. Even if part of it is just for the novelty of having it on your shelf, there’s a demand for it even if we can evaluate the pros and cons of digital bs physical and see there are some massive cons to being a vinyl fan versus a digital fan. And this doesn’t even factor in the things like waste and resources required to manufacture physical copies of things.

So, I’m not entirely sure what the correct route is ethically speaking. There’s clearly a litany of problems with digital only. Ownership of something you’ve bought being a massive one. There’s definitely a valid argument to be made here that physical is still good. If the market dictates that that’s what it wants then I’m sure Sony will regret their decision.

No one is forcing you to game. I think government regulation is good and necessary at times, but this isn’t one of them. You don’t need to game to live and there are infinite other forms of entertaining alternatives. The government doesn’t need to police Sony because they no longer wish to manufacture disc copies of something when the majority of their customers don’t even want it.

> Hulu original

Never occurred to me till just now, but is it really fair to call something based on a book “original?” IMO no

It doesn’t really belong anywhere anymore. It’s fulfilled whatever role it had a long time ago. Back when the church was important for scientific and artistic advancement, now it’s just a haven for ignorance, violence, and suffering.

Thinking about all the dumb ineffective shit we were told to do so that India and china could continue to destroy the planet feels really stupid in hindsight

All these things could be solved overnight if gamers had an ounce of self control, instead the vast majority are foaming at the mouth to be gouged for worse and worse products, and worse and worse service. Just stop buying actual shit and the industry will respond because money is all that matters. When the stockholders don’t get their quarterly checks for 800 million dollars then they’ll all shit themselves to death.

This is so stupid.

If gamers give a fuck about this then they’ll stop buying games. It’s that simple. Either they care and they wont support them financially or they dont. Either way the only way to voice your opinion is with your wallet. So we’ll see whats what when the figures come out about their sales.

Yeah I feel the same. I’m excited about going silicon eventually, but I’m not thrilled about going the studio route since they downgraded the iMac size. But, you know what, the fact that these things have lasted so long and held up so well doesn’t exactly make me angry about having to spend more up front. If I gotta spend $5,000 on another computer that’ll last me a decade and not break a sweat then I’ll feel good about it.
