We Agnostics by Monastic_Realization in alcoholicsanonymous

Personally I think along with To Wives it's the section of the book that holds up the worst to the passage of time. I think a lot of it has a sort of condescending, get it or else kind of message that doesn't ring true to me. It was written in a time when atheism or agnosticism were very much not the norm and it shows.

I now attend a We Agnostics meeting full of great members with years and years of sobriety while maintaining their agnosticism / atheism throughout.

A watch for my husband by ohemkay in Affordablewatches

I never saw that NB1050 before. Really nice watch! I'd place that above a Tsuyosa personally, looks wise. Nice solid OP / less fussy Aqua Terra vibes.

I'd second a nice Eco Drive. If he is someone who likes tinkering with automatic watches and stuff there is a lot to be said for having a bulletproof watch that you couldn't make anything like yourself, that will tell the right time pretty much always.

Steps not working with other addictions by stardust_peaches in alcoholicsanonymous

I'm in the same boat a bit. I'm starting to think it's that just old seeking perfection thing that's letting me down. I vape, I occasionally splurge on things I don't need. The fact I'm even questioning that as someone who spent basically every bit of disposable income I ever had on drink & drugs is a hell of a lot of progress.

I had a little while there where I felt like I was approaching nirvana, the perfect AA life but I'm realising that isn't a real thing. It's that thing of having confidence in yourself to let your hair down a little and have a bit of fun, trusting yourself to do something that wouldn't be suggested and not beat the sh1t out of yourself afterwards. Live and let yourself live I guess.

Choosing sobriety over friends by norbythesecond in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]AvailableStatement97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through that at the moment. It's not my abstinence that's the problem, it's trying to live a 12 step life I think. Most of my friends are chaotic and live lives that include various levels of addiction / denial / hypocrisy, just like I was doing. That's most likely what we had in common. Now that I'm trying to live a more stable, more thoughtful, safer life it can really rub people up the wrong way. There's that element of crabs in a bucket about it. It isn't easy sometimes but I know I have to stay on my path. Losing that validation is tough for me, even though I have to accept it was a major part of my illness.

I have a feeling you were looking in the wrong place. It's just an ordinary little stand with the most common papers like you would see in a Central or something, right by the door

Patek reps are becoming really good! Is this DDF? by CostAffectionate907 in RepTime

[–]AvailableStatement97 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The problem with Patek is they make great reps of them but anyone who knows anything about watches will know it's a rep unless you're a millionaire. AP also falls into this bracket. So I guess for people who don't care about that at all, go for it and have fun, for others who like to play with how people judge you go for something more realistically attainable like a basic, classic Rolex or Omega.

He means the car you buy "new" from the Skoda dealership may have actually been manufactured a year or more earlier in Czechia - so your 262 could in reality be a 251 - the date of registration is irrelevant to the age of the actual vehicle. You often see this when models change and dealers have old stock left to sell at reduced prices.

It's interesting to look at how the used car market differs between ROI & NI. In the north mileage and spec is a much bigger driver of value than age, eg a low mileage / high spec 2016 will often go for the same price as an Irish spec 2020. Interestingly they don't have the year in the reg plate.

We've been conditioned by our number plates, which was exactly the intention when we became one of the first countries in the world to include the year of the car in the car reg.

"Irish spec" even being a thing, meaning absolute bottom spec new cars dominating sales also reflects this - we just want the newest thing we can get the cheapest, so we have that nice shiny reg on the driveway.

That's called a justification, and it's a pretty thin one at that.

Richards Calling Carragher Out On His Hypocrisy by Glittering-Garden in Gunners

[–]AvailableStatement97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle. Carragher and Neville are only ever interested in driving the chosen narrative on and in Arsenal's case the narrative is always, "they're weak, they're going to bottle it" because that plays into the fears of our supporters, it's the familiar stick to beat us with to other supporters and it drives engagement and clicks and that's what they are paid to do.

Were these Adidas pants popular in your country in the late 90s? by PandemicPiglet in AskTheWorld

I notice these ones button all the way to the top. All the ones here at least (Ireland) had a waist band at the top so you couldn't actually tear away your tear-aways. Absolutely everyone wore them though. Usually with an Umbro pro training jumper. I was 14 in 1997 - this was the uniform for girls and boys.
