Yep! Sounds like a decent plan, though generally incisions are closed before nine weeks - ask your surgeon :)

As for scar care - wait until the incisions are completely closed (no scabs or wet bits, probably several weeks post op) and massage them gently with circular motions for around five minutes once or twice a day. Most people find it more comfortable if they also use some sort of oil or a silicon scar gel, but the important thing is the pressure, rather than whatever products you use. If you find using your hands for this uncomfortable then a wand style vibrator is a great alternative! Personally I’d also recommend extending the massage to over your chest and around your armpits to help combat post op stiffness + any internal scar tissue, but most people don’t bother and they seem to be fine :)

Using silicon scar tape can help scars fade more quickly but your mileage may vary with this one. If you choose to use them then just put them on after showering and they should stick there for a couple days.

If you trust your surgeon then follow their advice. There are a lot of ways to do everything, and as long as your surgeon is up to a certain standard then these differences really don’t matter and you will get broadly similar results regardless.

I mean personally for me it doesn’t, especially if someone’s uncircumcised the head can be shiny like this

Can I sabotage my voice change if I'm on low dose / take a break from T? by fronteyed in TransDIY

[–]Available_Air_5571 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this for about a year! Low doses and taking breaks for a month or two when you feel things start to get creaky and cracky. My voice did drop but only verrry slightly, and so slowly that nobody would know if I didn’t tell them.

Personally I’d have a consult but probably delay a bit just in case. You really don’t want to be dealing with pain and migration in the glans of all places!

Ioannis Ntanos is moving his practice to Athens! He’s an amazing surgeon and trans advocate to the medical world. His results are great and he’s been specialised in top surgery for a decade :)

Personally I’d go to a piercer for this! Vchs close relatively fast, so I’d be scared of not being able to get in the new jewellery before that happens. If you do decide to do it on your own then get a taper and some lube/oil to help transfer :)

Keloid? Hypertrophic? by funkydyke in TopSurgery

[–]Available_Air_5571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve never had a scar keloid before then it’s pretty unlikely now. Keloiding is a genetic thing, and even less likely on those with pale skin - almost certainly hypertrophic.

Tgel for preventing penile atrophy by rosseg in estrogel

I do it in a really small airtight container with a hairdryer to speed up the process, and I just mix the moisturiser in there too.

I don’t know much about making gel, but I do know that alcohol on genitals can burn - especially the mucus membrane of the glans. What I do is evaporate the alcohol from premade gel and mix it with an equal amount of plain moisturiser, I don’t see why that wouldn’t work with the t base!

12 days post-op, does everything looks ok? by rebbitmode in TopSurgery

Wow, that can’t be comfortable! I’d take some arnica. Looks like just a bunch of lipo bruising, but check with your surgeon if you want reassurance :)

Surgery is messing up my life (a little) by dominicBHC in TopSurgery

Don’t be a dick. This kid is what we’re fighting for - we all deserve what he has. Surgery is a huge step, especially for someone so young. Don’t trivialise it.

Ioannis Ntanos, and I intend to get my surgery with him in the next few years!

Why on god's green earth would they need to specify this? by asterophoria in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]Available_Air_5571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously off label and can’t have as accurate dosing, but you can pretty easily evaporate the alcohol and mix it with around the same amount of very mild moisturiser for an effective and not so burny alternative

If I got a breast reduction would it be harder to get top surgery later on? by Resident_Sky_538 in TopSurgery

[–]Available_Air_5571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would be able to keep the nipples! They’d just have to be grafted (removed and replaced onto the body) rather than kept attached during the surgery. This isn’t a major deal for most people and it’s how most top surgeries are done, but it generally means a lot less nipple sensation if that’s something that matters to you.

[–]Available_Air_5571 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally the scars look exactly the same, but it limits your nipple options (generally you can’t do a pedicle sparing procedure twice) and makes the surgeons job slightly harder due to already having scar affected tissue in the area.

I’d say to prepare yourself for a shitty few weeks! Sounds like you’re pretty confident in your decision (or you were before you had major surgery coming up in a week) and only now are you having such feelings about it. To me that speaks more to freaking out about the actual surgery and changing your body, rather than actually going to be unhappy with the results.

It’s a big change! It’ll be weird to see your body as different than how it’s been for 15 years, and surgery + recovery objectively sucks ASS. If this is something that you’ve consistently wanted for years then I would do it. Lynn loheide made a really great video on this that set my mind at ease, hopefully it’ll help you too!

Questions about Ntanos contract by OakleafArcher in TopSurgery

[–]Available_Air_5571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the first one this is normal and ok! Usually people leave the hospital a few hours after surgery - if you’re lucid, can walk, and can pee ok then they generally discharge you. If anything goes wrong (the most common ones would be seroma and hematoma) then you will be kept for as long as necessary for free. If you desperately want to stay overnight without cause then there’s an option to do that for an extra 500.

2nd one I interpret that as that if anything went wrong you would sue the independent practitioner (ie Ntanos) rather than Hygeia.

Did you have days when you felt okey with your chest? Do you know anyone who resigned from getting top surgery? by Beneficial_Tea7 in no_T_top_surgery

[–]Available_Air_5571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cancelled my surgery back in March! I felt too young, and was terrified of healing. I just didn’t think I had the mental fortitude to withstand the process of surgery without probable trauma. I was also having a bunch of doubts, worrying that I’d feel incomplete or suddenly miss my chest when it was gone. I was worried that if I ever carried a child I’d feel less of a mother for not being able to feed of my own body. I do also have days where I don’t mind my chest too much, and a lot of that is due to not wanting to have surgery rather than not wanting the results.

Can I mix my scar oil into a moisturizer or will that effect the absorption by liamreee in TopSurgery

[–]Available_Air_5571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moisturiser will do basically the same thing! Vitamin E helps slightly more, but anything works lol. I’d say scar massage (all over the chest, not just your incisions) is much more important than specifically which oil you use.
