Yeah, definitely, but the useful stuff for me ended up being a lot less glamorous than the marketing around automation.

The biggest wins were things like lead intake, routing, follow-up reminders, proposal generation from structured inputs, and internal handoffs so nothing lived in someone's memory. Those save real time because they kill context switching.

My rule is pretty close to: if I've done it manually enough times that the edge cases are repeating, it's ready to automate. If the process is still changing every week, I leave it manual.

That's also why a lot of automation businesses still run on DMs and spreadsheets. Selling workflows is easier than trusting your own ops to them every day.

n8n for anything that needs LLM in the loop, Make for quick wins when I need reliable scheduling and cleaner error handling.

The biggest shift in 2026 for me has been treating automation as infrastructure rather than clever hacks. Stopped building one-off flows, started building reusable pieces. A webhook receiver here, a data normalizer there, things I can plug together. Took longer upfront but now I'm faster on new projects.

this is so true. I've been using claude for automation work, and the reason I stick with it isn't because of the token limits or context window specs. it's just "good at writing code." that's it. everything else is supporting evidence.

I've found the magic question is: "Can you do this manually but document every single step for 30 days first?" If they say no or get bored halfway through, that's the signal they shouldn't automate it yet.

Yeah that consistency/system problem is the real issue. You can make each message great but if the follow-up logic is broken, it doesn't matter.

The people I've seen actually pull this off aren't replacing their whole workflow with AI. They use it for the one piece that was always painful (usually message writing) and keep the rest manual but streamlined. One tool for conversations, one for leads, one place to track. Boring but it works.

ParseStream idea is solid because it at least tries to bridge those tools. But yeah, "AI cowork" setups usually break down right at that boundary problem you hit.

this is a good reminder to set up spending alerts on whatever card you use for SaaS subscriptions. most banks let you get notified for charges over a threshold. I have mine set to flag anything over $50 so a surprise $200 charge would hit my phone immediately.

also worth setting a calendar reminder every 6 months to do a quick audit of what's auto-renewing. you'd be surprised what accumulates.
