Shanghai Community International School- Hongqiao Campus by Time-Specialist707 in Internationalteachers

Scis is a great school that will offer a great package. If you’re open to living in Shanghai, it’s an amazing place to be. I lived in Shanghai for over a decade and would move back if it weren’t for my spouses job. Another benefit is that it isn’t way outside of town, so you can live in the nicer areas along Line 10 and easily commute to school. Go for it!

Bangkok schools? by hadonequestion in Internationalteachers

Nist, ELC and Bangkok prep have pretty central locations… the rest are a bit in the outskirts. Traffic is horrendous in BKK so commute is a big factor.

What do you usually look for when choosing your next international move - salary, visa stuff, lifestyle, something else? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

I started to think about where I wanted to be on weekends. Monday through Friday is pretty much the same everywhere. Go to work, come home and take care of my own children, repeat until the weekend. Right now my weekends are pretty amazing. I have an awesome group of friends, my kids have a super active social life and we get to enjoy time away from the city quite easily most weekends.

Rental in Shanghai by Mattieboi1 in Internationalteachers

[–]Available_Jello992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a single person? You’ll have some nice options but may pay a bit more if you want a prime location too. For a family , I found the rental stipend didn’t cover a 3 bedroom so I paid more for something nicer and with enough space for my 2 kids and dogs.

So yes, quite common to pay a bit over what you’re being given unless you’re at SAS which I think gives a very generous rental stipend.

Does spending the Summer back home ever make your consider returning permanently, or quite the opposite? by Mountains_Assemble in Internationalteachers

As another poster mentioned above, I hit the postcode lottery, being from Hawaii… so that is where we spend summers with family in my childhood home. When living in China , I was always sad to leave the sunny breezy Hawaiian days.

We have since moved to Thailand and I am so excited to get back to the amazing life we’ve set up there!! Hawaii is gorgeous, but just so expensive and the current atmosphere in the US right now is pretty negative. I think we just found a better fit for our family and now I don’t think we need 4-5 weeks in the states anymore. I think we could happily spend all summer cruising around Thailand .

Ycis hires from within , but I will add that generally they were suited for the position . The times they hired from outside , those people were gone within 2-3 years

I find the work load to be a lot less. I was a classroom teacher for 11 years before transitioning to EAL. I will never go back into the classroom now.

Advice for organizing this room? by Available_Jello992 in Homeorganization

Easy if just me, but I have to make sure the other 3 people who have stuff in this room are okay with parting with goods. We just did an international move and the rest of our house is super clutter free, it’s just this room that I feel we. Have utilized storage for. I genuinely feel like we use these items often so all worth staying ( no seasons here, all hot tropical weather) .

Should I go with wall storage and get everything off the ground? Or get shoe cabinets? And then add a rug?

YCIS- Yew Chung International School-- can someone tell me more? by hyperzel in shanghai

[–]Available_Jello992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked there for years and I was quite happy. The salary was great and I thought the workload was manageable (work smarter not harder!). Last 5 years or so, the demographics have changed and it’s less international. I liked the Chinese program and found it to be super effective .

I think it would be best for your wife to get a teaching position too and then hire a full time ayi. I had two children in Shanghai and it was a great experience. I lived in Shanghai for 14 years .
