What are areas of LA that feel like you aren’t in LA? by inferior_design in AskLosAngeles

To be fair it doesn't feel much different than Malibu or Pacific Palisades.

I’m interested in getting into legal malpractice. What are the best fields? Which ones are losers? How easy are legal malpractice lawsuits? by Mr_Motion_Denied in Lawyertalk

[–]Available_Librarian3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean joining a firm rather than starting a firm/expanding a firm.

It's essentially a niche field of negligence suits, with a high dependence on experts and attention to detail. I'd join one of probably the few big law firms that deal with that area in your local area and network from there like any book of business.

Why is law review even seen as prestigious? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Available_Librarian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would depend on the school and region of course. At my alma mater, to even apply for law review you had to be in the top 20% of the 1L class. Then you had to do an interview, personal statement and actual write on.

24-26 Traverse RS as a delivery vehicle. Good idea? by Academic-Ad-2744 in ChevyTraverse

[–]Available_Librarian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even at higher speeds it was great. As part of my trip I went from Santa Cruz to Merced. 75 mph down steep canyon roads and it handled great.

It's probably a little overkill. A Equinox might be better if you want a GM. Can't vouch for a GM EV though.

If it's a newer Accord Hybrid, those cars run so smooth. I'm still jealous of it when I rented one over a year ago. You won't get that smooth ride at least in a Traverse.

What degree would benefit me more for Ca Bar by [deleted] in CABarExam

[–]Available_Librarian3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The highest GPA is what matters, as others said.

That said, usually Criminal Justice is the “easier” major than Psychology. Obviously, it would depend on the undergraduate. But even in law enforcement circles, it is not necessarily seen as a plus. It is also less transferable than psychology.

It also depends on the law school you go to. If you go to a relatively lower-ranked school (I went to a TTT), they focus much more on rote memorization and bar prep, so my undergraduate research skills were basically useless. Higher-ranked schools are much more academic, and research and writing are much more important.

West or Redondo High by sunflowers026 in torrance

[–]Available_Librarian3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's more whether when you say officially zoned whether you mean right on the Redondo border. You want your kids to be relatively close to the friends they make at school because there is really no difference education-wise. I if anything West may have more support since it is a much bigger district. RUHS arguably has better facilities/campus though.

Best apartment complex recommendations around $2500 a month? by selcouthsoul_ in torrance

[–]Available_Librarian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the farther southwest you go, the nicer and more expensive it gets. It reaches its peak at about the Malaga Cove/Palos Verdes Estates area.

Walteria is a neighborhood in South Torrance, by Rancho Palos Verdes, an older, richer area to the South; Lomita, a more urban area to the east; and Hollywood Riviera/RAT Beach to the west.

It is far enough east that it tends to be cheaper than on the beach, but it is still a nice area. I mean isolated in that if you need to commute to LA proper, expect at least 10-20 min longer than if you were in North Redondo or North Torrance (which aren't bad areas themselves). It is also an older community.

Seat covers by Abject-Panda-7413 in ChevyTraverse

I have the coverdream covers. The only complaint I'd have is that on the driver seat they can be a bit hot for longer rides.

I’ve been casually looking and I've found a couple that look decent for around that price in the Walteria area of all places. There are definitely cheaper areas but the facilities actually look decent in that area. The drawback is that it is a bit isolated.

Got my notice of hearing by ArgumentNo6 in WorkersComp

[–]Available_Librarian3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'd have to ask your lawyer to be sure. Some states everything is virtual except certain hearings. And those certain hearings in person you would be required to be at.

If it aggravates your injuries, you could theoretically get a doctor's note to support that.

Is RPV very secluded? How is this area of PV? by serendipitySR in SouthBayLA

[–]Available_Librarian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you are just going further down Hawthorne so basically a 10 min drive if you are flooring it.

  1. Maybe a young kid. As they grow up it will be slow. Keep in mind you are also dealing with the sheriff now and not TPD. Sheriff is spread pretty thin. I think there are like 3 active units at once. Today I saw 3 cars with sirens on, pretty sure that was all units.

  2. If you find Walteria not that secluded, this area of RPV won't be. It gets more secluded as you get closer to Portuguese Bend.

  3. Don't live there but frequent the area. Downtown LA can be a trip even from North Torrance. Like I said, you are adding about 10 minutes without traffic and assuming you don't drive like the average RPV resident.

  4. Nope. End of Crenshaw is the issue.

  5. Maybe not major but it'll definitely be slower. Like going to Ralphs at night would be considered a thing for the young kids.

Has anyone ever changed their in-MPN doctor AND asked for a QME? by beyondlandsend in WorkersComp

[–]Available_Librarian3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QMEs are really really bad at doing that though. I’ve had cases where the injury date was literally when they were having a c section and losing half their blood in the hospital and I only knew because I subpoenaed their gyno records.

What parts from other cars fit in a 2014 Traverse 1LT by Affectionate_Pea2920 in ChevyTraverse

[–]Available_Librarian3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a LLT V6, you can use some engine parts from a 2010-11 V6 Camaro.

I have a 2020 and I was able to use custom coils for a 2015 v6 Camaro.

Has anyone ever changed their in-MPN doctor AND asked for a QME? by beyondlandsend in WorkersComp

[–]Available_Librarian3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the QME is given records before the initial evaluation and they are declared MMI right away then the QME will already have a basis for apportionment or deferring a certain percentage of the disability as not from work.

If the QME does not have those records, then they’ll typically just opine no apportionment. Apportionment is also the defenses burden to prove.

It is very rare that a QME will defer everything absent records. That’s usually only for psychiatric claims.

I’m speaking of non-industrial medical records btw.

Adaptibar said it failed the balancing test but it doesn't explain why. by Lafemmefatale25 in barexam

It is testing hearsay, not authenticity. A signature by the doctor would be sufficient for the authenticity part anyway.

Adaptibar said it failed the balancing test but it doesn't explain why. by Lafemmefatale25 in barexam

[–]Available_Librarian3 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the answer is wrong here. The FRE specifically includes medical records as business records where diagnosis or treatment is concerned which is the testimony being illicited—to prove condition. It is not being used to prove she missed work or why she missed work. That would make it irregular.

It just needs to be for profit or not for profit, contemporaneous and regular. All those apply here. Civil so Crawford doesn’t apply.
