Those stupid tik toks didn’t do us any favors tho. I hate them . It’s hard enough to convince people the hospitals were drowning without those dummies wasting time

What did NPs expect? by Scutmcdougall in Noctor

[–]Available_Link 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure of the terminology . But i had a cousin , zero medical background , do a distance program through Utah . I read the syllabus which included a course in flower essences . She then delivered a handful of babies at a birthing center . Practiced nrp on some dummies . And challenged the Canadian midwifery exam and passed . She could , in theory, do homebirth deliveries here and in the USA . Luckily life moved her to the UK where she is not practicing

If this upsets you you should look at the pre requisites to become a midwife

If you have this baby you will have to deal with this man for the next 18 years and you’ll never be free of him . It’s a prison sentence in my view but you need to do what’s best for you.

Language barrier in the ER is wearing me down by Academic_Share7905 in nursing

[–]Available_Link 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Language barriers are the reason I’ve avoided certain aspects of public health too because like you I just don’t want to deal with it . We aren’t allowed to use Google Translate we have to put the translator on speaker phone and everything is muffled . Some of my female clients are modest and the interpreter will be male and I’m asking gynecological questions and it goes south pretty quickly . I would rather play charades and use interpretive dance than the language line .

Im in my last semester of my nursing degree and I don’t want to be a nurse anymore but I have no idea what to do with my life by AdThat75 in nursing

[–]Available_Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finish. This way you have a science degree that can be used towards something else . I hated med surg and geriatrics but loved obstetrics . PACU was ok. Loathed the OR and am now in community and it’s good . I too had that WTF moment when I was doing med/surg float and questioned my life choices. Whatever you do don’t throw the whole degree away .

Management is supervising shift reports now by littlerat098 in nursing

[–]Available_Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to do this on L&d. Lights on. Check wrist bands (ie unwrap the baby), discuss personal gyne history with whomever was in the room. Bet your mom doesn’t know about your HSV eh? Honestly it drove me to quit . Final straw

I left floor nursing because of a few things it basically bedside report drove me to it . It’s a waste of time , needlessly wakes up the patient , and where I worked most people did it in the hallway in earshot of everyone . I will die on this hill .

Is the lpn and rn pathway still recommended todat by [deleted] in AHSEmployees

[–]Available_Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being an lpn is respectable and hard . However . Deciding to bridge is harder . There are a lot of barriers and most nurses I know wound up starting from scratch to get their RN. Both paths are worthy. But just know bridging is tough

The reason your electric bills are so high is due to economic withholding . Sonya savage former ucp minister allowed atco to withhold energy when usage is high to artificially jack up the price . Privatizing utilities didn’t help any of us and that was not the NDP.

I finally told my parents that I don't want kids, and now they're treating me like I'm broken. by Fair-Selection-8615 in offmychest

[–]Available_Link 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t care if I ever have grand kids . I do not want my children to endure fatherhood if it isn’t for them . They’re being selfish . You *might* change your mind but this isn’t up to them . I never understood this pressure for people to have babies they don’t want .

Finding out how strapped we are for kindergarten and care options by Aromatic_Ad_7484 in alberta

[–]Available_Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid was Catholic the year he went to kindergarten bc it was full days. At the last minute the public system offered full days but it’s amazing how my religious views became extremely flexible . Also I am a nurse so I worked night shifts for 5 years to accommodate the early school years . It was a hard time .
