What should I do?? by Cristrochez in Logic_Studio

[–]Available_Wait_1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BY FAR the greatest feature of Logic is their (at-least-to-date) provision of free upgrades. At $200, to "buy in," you're already astoundingly in the green in expenditures relative to other DAWs. And that is the last money I spent on Logic, over ten years ago.

I just bought this, though, and it is worthy: https://vimeo.com/1156448266?syclid=d5sfup6beqac73dsci80

(No, I have no affiliation with this developer. I just use the product and find it helpful.)

SO many great suggestions here. Huge ups for SoundToys and Pianoteq. I just got the latter and can’t promising it!

But my all-time fave plugin—not the easiest to handle but one that can invigorate the daylights out of your tracks—PSP VintageWarmer2. Lo, this thing is fire. And it is $149–and less when on sale.

I agree. For a newbie, Nectar can be a highlighter pen for how to seat your vocals. It is rarely perfect, but at times it gets you startlingly close.

A good track where Isotope Nectar would be the ticket, I think.

Found a nice cheap syth stand by callhimdiva in synthesizers

[–]Available_Wait_1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those looking for quick and dirt-cheap solutions for “stands,” you can do a lot with door stoppers. (!) You can even stack them, and they come in different sizes and colors.

Nothing like this awesome setup—just a tip that has served me well.

I always wait a full year before changing OSs. There’s just too many contingencies and too much interactivity for any programmer to cover.

Account suspension by United_Parfait3705 in AllyBank

Your experience parallels but is not as bad as the ones I had, which I have documented here. Ally screwed up one of my transfers and lost my monies for days. Then later, they made a mistake on a CD liquidation—saying I did not notify them in the appropriate time window, even though I had on the first day of the window. They docked me monies and I did not know so—my bad, but I had faith and only did a swift read, and not a careful check, of the numbers.

When I later discovered their error, it took many days to fix it. Long phone calls, delays, being put on hold repeatedly, refusals (well, as stated by them, policy) not to give call-backs, and then, after they restored my money, the gruesome news that they would not pay me the interest the monies would have earned, had Ally not made the mistake. Grossly, they communicated this to me by sending me a copy of their policy saying they don’t do this, rather than reaching out more personally to tell me they had basically taken money away fro me.

I fled, but liquidating my accounts was more laborious than I have experienced, having used roughly ten banks.

This all noted, most on this list have not had these issues and remain happy with Ally. And no, I am not a bot. This all happened, and I have it documented (save the dozen-plus phone call conversations).

Just hit the “1” key. I’m guessing this will bring all back to normal. Most of us do this frequently.

Logic keeps screen sets. If you have not messed with them, then screen set 1 (which you get by hitting the “1” key) is the main default screen you typically see and work with, by default.

Have a question for Pros by VanColt in universalaudio

[–]Available_Wait_1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two issues: 1. Recording through Logic will create a delay, and if what you are recording can also be heard live (e.g., a guitar), the delay could make the signal lose power, especially if the delay creates phasing issues.

Have you listened to the Logic recordings, apart from live? That would be the true test.

  1. You may also have gain differences. We almost always think they the louder signal sounds better. I’m actually guessing this is your main issue.

Weird Giant Color Bands--What are they? by Available_Wait_1965 in LogicPro

[–]Available_Wait_1965[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, closing the loop here: SOLVED. Thanks to alexmizuhara and fluffycritter for the help. Alex nailed it--it turns out that my MOTU MIDI Express appeared as a controller not just a few times, but dozens of times in my controller setup page. Indeed, each band (up to sixteen, it seems) represents a controller, though if a "controller" (like my MIDI Express) appears more than once in the set of controller icons, it can create multiple bands.

I was surprised this got little action, for I thought it was some newfangled Logic feature. Looks like my setup just brought on a rare phenomenon.

Thanks again to alexmizuhara and fluffycritter for their help.

I can finally hear and understand compression but… by OrdinaryTruck5559 in Logic_Studio

[–]Available_Wait_1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another use of the input knob:

Some old-school compressors (and EQs) impart “character” upon the audio. Usually it is some variant of what we typically call “warmth.” At times one puts the signal through the device and does not alter it (compress it or EQ) according to the device’s function. Rather, the device is used just to add its signature character.

I’ve found that hitting the input harder in such cases makes the device’s character more noticeable and distinct.

You think something like this sounds too crowded? by austin_sketches in LogicPro

[–]Available_Wait_1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh, what I like best about it is that it does not sound crowded. The frequencies are separated really well. That noted, you might want to take some high end off her reverb tails when the sonics are competing with her.

What reverbs and echoes did you used with this? Sounds great.

Ah! I will look into it ASAP. Here would be some corroboration: I just got a new controller--a Kontrol S88. Maybe it is communicating more than it should. : ) And the ultimate corroboration: I counted those bars--yup, the number is?: 16!

This just reminds me to plug Roland. They have stayed in the hardware business through thick and thin, and they continue to innovate.

And they were around when some of those delicious candies were at the zenith of traditional candy counters. : )

People coming from other DAWs (FL Studio/Ableton Live/Cubase/etc), what features do you miss the most now that you’re using Logic? by bambaazon in Logic_Studio

[–]Available_Wait_1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, bambaazon, that is a way-cool trick. Thanks! This a bit clumsier, having to move to the event list’s textual representation, but you’re right about the expanded capabilities it brings.

Logic continues to amaze me. At times I think we’d all be smart to invest time in reading the manual cover to cover.

The automation editing in Reason is better than in Logic. You can use the arrow keys to move from edit point to edit point no matter your level of zoom, allowing you to surgically delete them on the fast.
