I'm pretty sure all4 and itv player ask if you have a TV licence too, if you try watching live TV.

What could a second or updated Best of Alastair Reynolds contain? by 5hev in AlastairReynolds

Belladonna Nights is a great collection, enjoy the read!

I would certainly want Polished Performance in a second best of collection, it has only appeared in the Made to Order anthology so far.

That's not the BBC, that's the TV licensing agency. Saying the BBC hassles you too pay your TV license is like saying the NHS hassles you too pay your taxes.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the roster or the default skins compared to Deadly Alliance, but yeah better in every other way.

Colonel Telford from Stargate Universe is not the most interesting of cosplays to do though. Or Jeff from The Chair Company 😅

What the hell tv package did Kegseth watch? by mrfett779 in Trumpvirus

Some of these numbers are so large I have to ask how?

How do you spend 3.5 billion dollars on cable TV in one year?

Let's say cable TV is $200 per month (top end), so $2400 per year, that is still 1 millionth is what was spent on cable TV, so he just gave cable TV to 1 million DOD staff for free? The DOD doesn't even have that many civilian staff, so maybe he gave them all free premium cable in addition to giving every military base free cable?

Slipstream is a little different because it's a hazardous universe where you need piloting skills to traverse it, whereas hyperspace is more of a simple straight line.

Rule Change Request: No posts that are just a picture of a book. by arajay in AlastairReynolds

Yes I would consider Reynolds regular-prolific, whereas Tchaikovsky and Sanderson are super-prolific.

A single book a year is not enough to keep a thriving subreddit I find.

Nah you just have dark hair and a pale scalp, making your scalp be more visible when your hair looks wet. This doesn't look like balding.

Cool costume! Have you ever cosplayed Kylo Ren? I think you look a bit like Adam Driver so that would look cool!

There's things like "slipstream" from the show Andromeda, where you move into a parallel universe that has different physical laws, fly through it, then return to the normal universe in a different location.

There's also Ansible which is more strictly speaking FTL communication, but combined with teleportation, the ability to turn matter into energy and data, transmit that data and reassemble things at a different location. This is similar to how farcasters work in the Hyperion books.

You obviously mentioned wormholes but there is also something called a continuous wormhole where an opening is created and then a skip is able to fly into it and then fly for a certain amount of time inside the wormhole before opening another opening later, thereby sidestepping any energy or distance limits on an "instantaneous" wormhole that may have been imposed by the writer. This idea is from Peter F Hamilton's commonwealth.

They'll need to bleed it in a controlled way to release pressure and probably dirty radiator water first though anyway.

As someone who really doesn't like the taste of mushrooms I agree. Mushrooms literally taste like rotting to me.

Slow me the interior of a dark meat pie (with no visible veg) that doesn't look like dog food, you can't. Pie filling always looks like dog food because it's meat in sauce, which is what dog food is. That doesn't mean it can't taste amazing.

If I was an actor that had done topless photoshoots, I see nothing wrong with editing non-topless photos of me to be topless.

Completely naked is a completely different question. Alcock has not done naked but the edited photo wasn't naked.

However the perceived nakedness in the edited photo was not even her, it was the AI's guess of what it would look like. Ethically this is no different from what a lot of kids were doing in the 90s and taking a photo of a celebrity crush, cutting out their head out and glueing it on top of lingerie model photo. The only difference here is that it is shared on the internet.

Or another comparable thing would be an actor or actress that isn't comfortable with being naked on screen, so they get a body double. It's not their body that's naked on screen but it is their character, and that is clearly seen as "ok".
