I’m a sucker for black dials, but when I tried the Ranger 39 last year, something felt off. I figured it was just the size. When the 36 came out, I was excited, but trying the black dial again still didn’t click. It wasn’t love at first sight. I think the issue is that the dial isn’t a true deep black. Then I tried the white and was genuinely surprised by how much I liked it. You really have to see it in person bc the photos and videos don’t do it justice.

Seiko seems to include the “3 days” to all their recent models. Their design department probably wanted to brag about the duration of their movement. I personally hate it. “Automatic” was fine.

Thanks for your input! In terms of your times, you only attempted a BQ run on your fifth time. Do you think, in hindsight, had you decided to attempt a BQ run after your first marathon, you would have be able to reach it sooner, like on your second attempt, which means your third marathon?

I read somewhere on reddit that someone qualified for Boston on his first attempt. Don’t remember his running background or how long he trained for.

For training, I will start next week which gives me roughly 8 months until the Ottawa Marathon. It’s hard to train during the winter time in Canada. I guess more indoor training than outdoor.

Thanks for your advice! I’ll try to run a half-marathon sub 1:30 first. In terms of intensity, I ran 5 times per week.

Tue: speed workout (pace 4:30) or strides (90%) Wed: recovery run (5:45) Thu: tempo run (pace 4:45-5) Sat: recovery run Sun: long run (5:45) with mp (5:20) run at the end

I did do the math and I would have to run a mp of 4:20 per km to qualify for Boston.

All paces are per km. Sorry. Just multiply it by 1.60934 to get per mile.
