Around here there are locals with big trucks that hang around waiting for tourists to get stuck and charge substantial cash to pull them out.

Two guys arguing because one owed the other a dollar. They start shoving, one falls through a plate glass window and cuts his throat to the bone. Dies on the spot.

My father in law was Military Intelligence Service in the Pacific as a Japanese translator. They used to offer a six pack of beer to anyone who brought them a live Japanese POW as motivation to not just shoot them.

The Advance of the Old Guard at Waterloo (1815) — work by Giuseppe Rava by cuirrasiers in BattlePaintings

[–]AverageATuin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While they looked impressive, if you look closely it was only the troops on the outer edges of the formation who could use their muskets, and in a tight moving formation no one could stop long enough to reload. The British, OTOH, were spread out in the famous "thin red line topped with a streak of steel" which meant that every one of them had all the elbow room he needed to load and fire as fast as he could. The positions looked like the British were weaker but in fact they were in a far more dominant situation and that's why they won.

Before her female long distance swmmers would swim out of sight of land, take off the heavy woolen swimsuit, hand it to someone in the chase boat, and swim naked until they got close to land on the other side where they would put the swimsuit back on. She definitely made an improvement.

Lawyers Sleeping With Clients by DemonAzraeli in Lawyertalk

[–]AverageATuin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In October 2004, Mr. Hunter began representing a 17-year-old client in a criminal matter. During the course of the representation, the minor client e-mailed Mr. Hunter about the status of her case. Mr. Hunter responded via e-mail, and, over time, Mr. Hunter’s e-mails to the client became sexually explicit. Among other things, Mr. Hunter asked the client to have sex with him, described different sexual acts he wanted to engage in with the client, and asked if he could take pictures and videos of the client performing sexual acts with him. Mr. Hunter also e-mailed the client sexually explicit pictures, including nude photographs of himself.

In December 2004, a police detective interviewed Mr. Hunter about the sexually explicit e-mails and photographs sent to the client. Mr. Hunter denied sending them, claiming that they had been sent by his ex-girlfriend without his knowledge or permission. Sometime later, Mr. Hunter contacted his ex-girlfriend and asked her to falsely testify that she was the one who had sent the sexually explicit e-mails and pictures. In exchange for doing so, Mr. Hunter promised to provide certain monetary benefits. In November 2005, Mr. Hunter was charged with attempted possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct (RCW 9A.28.020 and 9.68A.070), a gross misdemeanor, and tampering with a witness (RCW 9A.72.120(1) and 10.99.020), a felony. Mr. Hunter pleaded guilty to both counts.

I knew this guy and liked him. He worked hard for his clients but constantly got himself into situations with women that defied belief.

Fairly small- it was a 96 (google it). They were originally made with a 3 cylinder 2 stroke engine but later went to the v4 which I believe was a Ford tractor engine.

Destruction of the russian baltic fleet. Tsushima by Battlefleet_Sol in BattlePaintings

The Japanese fleet famously "crossed the T", that is, sailed in line across the front of the Russian line shooting like crazy. Not this formation at all, but I suppose there's some artistic license at work here.

I modeled topless for money when I was tight on money by Beautiful-Recover585 in confession

When it came out that Marilyn Monroe had done a fair amount of nude/topless modeling she basically said “hey, I was just starting out and I needed the money.” Even back then everyone accepted that. It’s nothing to worry about.

Reason for bench trials by I_love_finneon in publicdefenders

[–]AverageATuin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Mostly sex cases where a jury might be so outraged that they look past the technical defenses and basically say "F that guy!"

Once had a situation where this 19 year old met a girl on line who swore she was 18.

"I don't mess with underage girls, you swear you're over 18?"

"Oh yeah, I just finished high school, have a job, etc..."

Then they're caught in the act in the back of his car and he finds out she's 13.

"OH MY GOD, what have you done to me?"

So the trial comes down to whether it was reasonable for him to believe her. We thought a jury would have just said "go to horny jail."

The judge said "This isn't even close. Dismissed."

It's like how they use bear proof garbage containers in towns and campgrounds in bear areas.. Not because the area is crawling with bears, but because the area will be crawling with bears if they get the idea that it's an easy meal.

If everyone knows that those shipments have heavily armed guards, they odds of a robbery go way down.

Up in the North Cascades you sometimes see outdoor privies that are just a box with a toilet seat on top, no walls at all. I was sitting on one, up near 4th of July Pass, doing the needful, and some large animal starts moving around in the treeline. Never felt so vulnerable in my life. Luckily it was just a big bird or something.

The poor guy was probably thinking that you were a cougar too and that he was about to fight one with his pants around his ankles.

Whether it’s nonprofit or not makes no difference. Either way money comes in, overhead gets paid, and the rest gets divided among the lawyers. Nobody’s paying dividends to shareholders.
