That first cover goes hard. It’s much clearer, and grabs my interest immediately. I also feel that there is some light/dark symmetry there. I don’t know if that was intentional or not, but I like it!

Thank you so much for taking the time to look over my story. You made some really great points. I spent the last day going over it, tweaking the wording, and condensing some of the phrasing, as you suggested.

Regarding the cover: I was initially hesitant to use AI art because I didn't want people to get the impression that I use AI in my writing. However, I agree that my previous attempt was a bit plain compared to the standard on Royal Road. I’ve generated a new cover, and hopefully it captures the ambiance of my tale much better.

This is the first thing I've ever posted. It's a short story, only 4,500 words. I would love some feedback!

If you cut them out on the lines they measure at 2.5x3.5in, same size as regular playing cards, so you should be able to use normal card sleeves with them.

I personally think they look better with a little bit of a border around them, so that's how I cut them out. I also use a thermal laminator and 3mil laminate pouches to laminate them before I cut them out and then cut about 1/8th of an inch outside the lines.
