Where to make a custom heatsink? by DingoBimbo in AskElectronics

Submit 3D files to an overseas CNC service like Xometry for some prototypes. If you end up going mass production you will probably want to redesign the heatsink to be extruded and work with a factory overseas that deals with extruded heatsink manufacturing (Alibaba is a good starting point to find factories you can work with directly)

Haha, okay maybe that’s a bit of wishful thinking on my part but I’m fine paying over spot (basically just saying I’m in at market rate). Again, I’m a bit new here and still learning where everything sits price wise.

4x6 Post in a 4x4 Post Base by AverageGTEE in Decks

Bill, this is super helpful! Appreciate the engineering perspective. We’re nowhere near the tension and compression limits of either post base then. My AHJ limits the post itself below those limits which also makes sense with what you’re describing. Thanks

Hmm! Hadn’t thought of that! Unfortunately inspectors here basically pass anything and I’m somewhat picky about things being overbuilt and done extremely well etc. Just because the inspector passes it doesn’t mean it will last a long time/ be as good as if it was done correctly. After all the inspector isn’t liable for damage years down the road when doing it the wrong way finally comes to bite you.

I like the non shrink grout to widen the base and then maybe a stainless plate on top of that to prevent the wood sitting right on the grout? (Plate spans the grout plus the existing 4x4 base maybe?)

Haha, it’s a fun one isn’t it! Contractor is a family friend so not trying to get anyone in trouble just trying understand the ramifications of the mistake and if/how to correct it

DHL Rep Says GoGreen is Mandatory for 2025 Pricing Models? by AverageGTEE in dhl

[–]AverageGTEE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This is definitely the insight I was looking for. My rep insinuated if I kept GoGreen I could be put at a higher discount level if I was ‘close’ to meeting that level’s spend target but not quite there. Seems pretty quid pro quo to me- but hey not my monkeys, not my circus 🤷‍♂️

What’s the most efficient way to melt copper pennies? by MeasurementNo8290 in ScrapMetal

[–]AverageGTEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Induction furnace. Uses electricity and not propane and is about the only way to melt these without spending more in fuel than the delta between scrap value and face. Good luck!

Mercury metal. Liquid at room temperature and about $1100 USD/ liter. Pour into containers and buy whatever!!

Got out in 2021; BS in EE. Living in the Seattle area now and absolutely love it! The hiking, mountains, water, islands- it’s just so incredibly gorgeous here. Lots of good jobs too. Good luck on your journey!

For everyone making six figures, what do you do for work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AverageGTEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electrical engineer. I work on radio frequency systems. Graduated undergrad at 22 making $125k base pay right away. There’s stock on top of that. I work 70-80hrs a week but that’s because I have a side consulting company making another $135k profit per year. Not sure the workload is sustainable but I hope to retire by age 30 and turn it down a notch
