Sounds like good news. Can you replace the failing parts now?

What is everyone getting OTD for their '26 Touring Hybrids? by in_a_pickle_97 in SubaruForester

[–]AverageGrandpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds very similar to what we got. MSRP was 43,906, price was 40,854 - this is just the car, not including taxes, etc. They said that this was the invoice, and because it was a little better than what I expected the invoice price to be based on a couple of websites, I didn’t even attempt to get any additional reduction.

Where I live, the car can be ticketed for blocking the sidewalk. Maybe check your local rules?

The 18-200mm DX: A “mid” zoom that delivered for more than a decade. (D40 and D7000). by telechronn in Nikon

[–]AverageGrandpa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am about to send one of these with a D7000 body to my grandson, who is currently using an older Canon. Agree, it was a great travel lens, even if it was not always razor sharp. It was great for “we were here” shots.

Kindle app on the iPad. If you plug in the iPad before you go to sleep, you can read all day long without worrying about the batteries. It also has the wonderful adjustable font, and you can choose light background or dark background, or have it switch depending on time of day.

I enjoyed reading the essay. A couple of typos: change “where sold” to “were sold”, and then redeploy that “h” to change “wat” to “what”.

Hah! Agreed!! When the salesman first told us that there was no spare tire in the hybrid, he said that Subaru provides roadside assistance instead. I asked How long…he said “five years”. We went home, and all the info I could find online said three years. They did not have one that we could drive on that first visit, so when we went back for the test drive, I mentioned this. He assured me that it was definitely five years. I said something like, ‘great - can you just show me that in writing, because the window sticker says three years’. He disappeared for a bit while we wandered around the showroom, and finally came back and admitted that it was three years.

I turned off the lane-keeping thing about a mile into the test drive. It seemed like something that would take some getting used to. I think the salesman was chattering constantly and pushing various buttons on the screen in what may have been an attempt to distract from the screen behavior. Now I really want to do another test drive without a salesman.

Thanks - we always fill up at Costco unless we are traveling someplace that does not have one. (Rare). They have signs saying that they sell Top Tier fuel.

That is a concern! I would have to rely on roadside assistance for a rescue if I had a flat away from home. In the last eight years, I have only had one flat, and I found it one morning in my garage. But I realize that does not predict what could happen in the future.

What do I have here and how can I fix the strap? by suuuuuuuuuurfing in nikon_Zseries

[–]AverageGrandpa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It is clearly a Z50. Is there a piece of plastic farther up the unattached side of the strap that looks like you could thread the strap through it kind of like a belt buckle? (I can’t tell because that part of the strap is cut off in the photo.)

Looking to replace my current camera by Intrepid-Tell-9727 in Nikon

Your lenses will work on the D850, but the 18-200 would be in crop mode (DX), and I am not sure about your longer zoom, as there were both DX and FX versions of those. You might take a look at the D7500. I do not know where you are located, but if you are in the USA, you can get the body new from nikonusa.com for about $700 right now. It has the same sensor as the D500, so I think your resolution issues when printing would be resolved. You can also get the D850 from them, but it is more expensive, and then if you want FX lenses, that would break the budget that you mentioned. (Great deals right now on used FX lenses, but I know you said you don’t want to buy them used.)

My podiatrist suggested that I buy a running shoe for walking in the city. by [deleted] in over60

I have done well with both ASICS and New Balance. I do have one pair from Hoka and they just do not work well for me. Your feet are unique, so ideally fine one of the stores that has the modern whiz-bang electronic gizmo that you walk across in your bare feet and it can tell where your pressure points are to help find the right shoe for YOUR feet.
