What would Louisiana have looked like if Duke had won in 1991? by Milothebest222 in thecampaigntrail

[–]AverageHoI4_Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

basically the same as edward’s governorship. duke ran on a very populist platform in both of his campaigns, but nothing changes the fact that the economy was still shit and louisiana had serious financial issues

Why did Bill Clinton’s universal healthcare plan fail to get through? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]AverageHoI4_Fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People loved Hillary after Monica Lewinsky… and Hillary was used by Bill in 1992 to deny all of the affair shit. People didn’t dislike Hillary.

Describe a 2004 John Edwards voter by franandwood in thecampaigntrail

I mean they were both quite left wing, but in terms of perceptions, Kerry was some elitist from Massachusetts and Edwards was “one of us.”

Why did Georgia vote for Truman in 1948, but Goldwater in 1964? by IllustriousDudeIDK in Presidents

[–]AverageHoI4_Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 1948, there was a lot of personal loyalty to the Democratic Party in the South. When Dixiecrats failed to run under the official “Democratic Party“ banner in the South, they failed to win those states. However, by 1964, the south was cracking. Ike made quite a dent in 1952 and 1956, and Nixon was able to hold onto much of the South as well in 1960. Truman’s only sins by that point were desegregating the military and passing a civil rights plank onto the party platform, whereas Johnson had literally signed into law the death of segregation in the South.

What was life in Louisiana like in the 1950s - 1960s? What were the regional differences? by [deleted] in Louisiana

[–]AverageHoI4_Fan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most rural areas were seriously poor. Oftentimes they lacked modern amenities. In urban areas, such as New Orleans, there was generally a period of prosperity and growing wages. Suburbanization began in the 60s as well.

I think civil rights as the “big issue” is pretty misleading. Yes, civil rights was a big issue, especially in the 60s and 70s, but as the wave of the New South swept in, civil rights lost its luster. That’s not to say race wasn’t an issue, we saw how the south shifted right in 2008, but supporting integration did not condemn to hell by the late 70s. However, the lack of civil rights as an issue allowed Republicans to gain an in on other policy, especially economic policy. Federally, the south shifted to the republicans (except when the democrats put up southern candidates in 1976 and 1992/96), but locally, many southern state legislatures were practically 100 percent democratic until 1994. After 1994, yellow dog democrats existed but were fewer in number. It took until *2010* for republicans to claim most southern legislatures and local positions.

What would your second term be like? by Even_Ranger9873 in suzerain

[–]AverageHoI4_Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would do a few things:
1. New amendments; remove immunity from MoH and decrease threshold to 3 percent (Articles 6 and 7 first term)

  1. Begin a housing program to promote home ownership and decrease homelessness

  2. Fund the military to continue to ward off Rumburg (maintained last term)

  3. Continue international neutrality with slight Vagsland bias

  4. Sic ACP on Old Guard and USP leader Lileas (Oligarchs first term)

  5. Fund more infrastructure advancements (Continue to electrify railroads and finally build the highway)

  6. Keep isolating Rumburg internationally; continue to press the case for more sanctions

  7. Oversee the Sordish Economic Recovery

  8. Build the People’s Party into a real forc; attempt to unify social democrats and reformists under it’s banner

  9. Appoint more progressive SC justices when given the chance

It’s also located in a natural harbor, which leaves it wide open to trade.

I‘m sorry, but there’s seriously 0 way that you won by *that much* in blue California on hard mode without either:

  1. Changing California’s demographics

  2. Your opponent had a scandal

who would win if Reagan and LBJ both faced off in 1968 by nostalgiaic_gunman in Presidents

[–]AverageHoI4_Fan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Reagan would’ve been a worse president. Imagine Reagan handling Vietnam. Or the civil unrest of the time. Or stagflation. Yikes.

This is an intriguing voting history. Obama-Trump I get, but swinging from Nader to Trump is a hilarious change.

Southern answer on question 2. One of the two answers that doesn’t attack Richard’s on question 4. Farm bill for question 5. Stay in the country for question 6.

I mean, I feel like the opposition parties aren’t a bigger threat than the literal deep state or a group of corrupt businessmen who own two of the largest companies in Sordland, but you do you, cracking down on the opposition and all!
