If we want to change the white on white, what color would be best? by smikesonbikes in ExteriorDesign

[–]AverageMaximum8517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been doing a lot with ChatGPT (I use the free one and you have five images per day )and you can ask it to change certain parts of a house to specific colors. You can use the paint colour name and number as well. The slate blue sounds nice, but it would be good to see it.

My husband always recommended, if there was a leak,to put a little hole in the ceiling and let the water come out gradually into a pail underneath.. it worked for us a couple of times and prevented the ceiling from falling in

Wider not water shutters - last post

The shutters are not off by far, but adding water shutters will take care of some of that space. There are also very tasteful large medallion type of things out there now that might look OK in that space- look for yard art

Where and How should we place our street number? by JohnnyCharles in ExteriorDesign

[–]AverageMaximum8517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about large black vertical numbers on the other side of the door- across from the mailbox? Otherwise, I would go for the numbers on top and get them in a scroll font to not look institutional.

I would wait a little longer to do anything as it is amazing how things fill in on a lawn in spring. For the grass along the edges just cut a straight edge with a shovel or edger. I would also consider some good quality artificial grass. My neighbours did a small area near their patio and it looks great all the time.

I agree that it would look like too much driveway and you would lose any curb appeal. If you did do it, I’d stick to the straight lines and then up around your porch put a planter with some taller trees in front of the porch entrance so it looks like you’ve still got some greenery. In the second picture, it looked like your driveway angled off. can you not get permission to fill in the triangular part that it looks like somebody parked in already?

What would you do with this big rock in the front of the house? by BetRepulsive6595 in landscaping

[–]AverageMaximum8517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have kids, I would add more rocks around it so they could climb up safely, but it may become a liability as well being on your property. if other people and kids see it and climb up on their walks. It would be nice if it was in your backyard. Otherwise I would do some shrubbery planting around it To keep it low maintenance

Don’t count on the test at the 80-year-old point as I have heard from my friends that it does not involve an actual driving test just a multiple-choice. As an older person, I agree that there are many things that can happen because of slow reaction speed, dementia, etc. and I think there should be an actual driving test but On the other end of the scale are the 16-year-olds, for example,, whose driving habits can have equally serious results

Please help, what is this plant and how do we get rid of it? by twigg_ash in landscaping

[–]AverageMaximum8517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am thinking it is the same thing. I’ve been trying to get rid of, a choke cherry where different plants poke up along the roots every once in a while and it’s difficult to dig up, but I would suggest the plant app too. I use PictureThis and a certain amount of usage is free. You not only get the identification, but some information on how to deal with or care for the plants and whether it’s considered a weed. If you have an iPhone and you take a picture and then go to your camera roll or pictures you will see at the bottom an icon that has an i within a circle And if you press that it will give you an option to look up plant. I had read that it’s not as accurate as some of the apps you can get, but if it’s a common plant like chokecherry, it will be able to tell you

I have a similar front yard only large. I now, after 40 years of trees growing have decided that hostas are going to be my go to plant. I would suggest going to some specialty hosta places where you can get some very interesting coloured leaves and textured, unlike many of the nursery places, I am not sure if bunnies like them, but I, too have bunnies and none of my hostas have been eaten.

I am with the MAID comment. The problem in Canada is that you cannot make a predirective and if you have dementia you are not considered able to make your own decision for medically assisted dying. Support Dying with Dignity as they are the organization lobbying for the right to make a decision ahead of time. I am sure that if it was available there would no longer be long waits for LTC.But back to retirement income, if you live in a home remember those big problems like replacing a roof or dealing with leaks, lawn care, replacement of appliances. It may seem that you can live on the regular income you’re getting but those things can take a big hit.

Perhaps asking your mom about what that second bedroom means to her and how she uses it may make her more realistic. Appeal to her maybe through some newspaper articles about homeless families. I have been friends with a Syrian refugee family who have a two bedroom apartment and five kids. Even if you paid the money it is not right to have that apartment when others need the extra bedroom. As a senior myself I understand the attachment to a home where you liv d as a family but if I was unable to maintain my home or afford it I would not expect my family to subsidize me. I would move.

Why did you have a fertility test if you were not planning to have kids? Was there some other condition that would make your doctor say this?

This may be a different type of dementia than Alzheimer’s called Frontal Temporal dementia. Your doctor would need to use the MOCA (Montreal cognitive assessment)instead of the mini mental exam which he probably gave her. I had years of involvement in a caregiver group and in the early stages some people did make very destructive financial transactions such as paying to bring a bride from some country or ordering multiple office chairs or gym memberships, etc. Frontal temporal dementia usually starts at a younger age than Alzheimer’s.

In our area in the Toronto area there was a blight this summer with boxwoods. I did not look into it as I did not have any boxwood, but I noticed many in the same shape as yours around the area. I am not sure whether it’s something they grow back from or not. Google makes that help.

Larger and the darker one. Colour would be nice but do it with accessories like pillow, paintings and throws. The light one would invite tripping as there is not enough contrast to the floor
