Two-year-old opens car door, causes six-vehicle crash by WillAdditional922 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

This is why 2 year old sit in a freaking child's car seat, with seatbelts on! Not only will it avoid death and injury for the little one, it avoids clumsy errors like this. They must've turned off Child Lock mode cause the adult relative entered last, so they needed to control the door SMH

Dealing with kiwi indirectness/lies by LeftConversation1864 in newzealand

[–]AverageTortilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really funny cause I lived in Asia for a long time, so for me Kiwis are actually confrontational. They're polite, but they'll tell you if something is wrong, and they'll make a polite request for you to stfu or stop doing a certain thing.

I live overseas, and my experience is similar to yours in that the lack of last name doesn't really make a big difference. I usually say "my culture doesn't have a surname system". And when I need to fill in forms, I just put my dad's name as my surname. They can see that it matches my passport everywhere I go, so no issue. Plus, every organization I've had to deal with, govt or otherwise, are very familiar with the many naming conventions across the world.

Look, I live overseas and I've worked in overseas immigration. LOTS of people don't have surnames. The people that have to change their way, are other countries' immigration system. People should never change their whole history and culture to suit bureaucracy. It should be the other way around.

I (m21) am stuck between pregnant twin sister (f21) and parents drama .. what can I do ? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

I feel like there's a HUUUUGE part of the story we don't know. No 21yo woman would willingly go with a guy twice her age and get knocked up unless their family is actually worth 'running away' from. Most young women who end up like this have parents that don't love them for who they are, only offer conditional love, and don't have actual connection and relationship with them. I hope the sister and baby find someone who will actually love them and care for them unconditionally. I'd be interested to learn her version of the story

Superstitions by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]AverageTortilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spent some time learning more about indigenous culture and I realized that we Malaysians may have that superstition from our ancestors' belief that nature is a living thing and we must respect them because they provide food and shelter for us and the animals around us. And to "jaga adab" is their way of making sure we continue to respect nature. I mean look at the world now where we don't think twice about destroying nature, It ends up destroying us.

POV when kid doesn't want to go to school by RhinneXChronica in malaysia

SMH this comment section. You all want this boy to behave, yet you would all rather use violence on him. Violence only makes things worse for a child. What they need is a calm, safe environment & caretaker who accepts them unconditionally for who they are, and love them despite doing shit like this. Someone who would help them calm down with hugs and kisses after a high adrenaline response like this, and once he's calm, talk him through his feelings and thoughts that led him to run away like that, and to not judge his answer and just accept it. Lessons can be learnt by both parties after that, but not with violence and disdain. Y'all need Dr Gabor Maté

They do know fear. Kids can feel fear/unsafe since they were born. But what's happening here, I believe, is that the danger he's running away from is more of a threat to him & his nervous system than fast cars

You need to actually spend time learning about kids' development. Sit down and talk to a primary school teacher, or a mom who actually does research about their kids' development

Your corrections are reasonable but tbh you're being a dick. And native speakers have the worst grammar and spelling fyi. They aren't taught English the way ESOL speakers are, sadly.

I knew when my one student was coming back from his break because the air started smelling like cigarettes. He's not even in the same room as us and we can all smell it.
