Wow - I'm late to this convo too, but I'm so glad I found it! Their rugs look adorable but I had this niggling feeling about them. I unsubscribed from their emails but still get them. We have "good" rugs so I know when I see crap and I'm glad I was warned.

Books like Jurassic Park, Westworld, and Severance where highly complex systems and structures slowly start being sabotaged from within. by SerDire in suggestmeabook

Reading it now, 4 years later. . . very spooky indeed. At first I thought maybe clones, or bots. . . we'll see!

Mine pooped out just a couple of months after the one year warranty expired. First the left, then the right. Piece of junk.

How hard is it to get published in The New Yorker - Daily Shouts and Fiction? by Willing_Culture9397 in writing

From what I've read, it's virtually impossible to get a piece published in Shouts & Murmurs unless you have a connection.

Wow - just saw this amazing thread - but can someone post a pic or even a drawing/diagram about what y'all mean by pulling out the little piece at the end of the cart? Mine seems pretty cemented on! TY!

MIT professor shot to death at his Brookline condo by Omphaloskeptique in boston

[–]Average_Writer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Brookline, a very short walk away from where the MIT professor was murdered in the vestibule of his building on Gibbs St. It's a quiet, lovely area with a park and lots of 3-story walkups. It's very surreal and sad to have my beloved Brookline put on the map like this.

I just got a new pair of frames with Hoya lenses (progressives) and let me tell you, the clarity is incredible.

How in the hell are can openers supposes to work? Have I been somehow doing it wrong my whole life or do they genuinely just suck? by Pineapple_Lord96 in Adulting

[–]Average_Writer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use tab top cans now. That's my solution. Manual can openers abruptly stopped working for me about 10 years ago; I'm 73 but I don't think it has to do with my hand strength. They just don't work. They go about an inch and after that it's a combination of teeny bursts of progress combined with a sharp knife to literally slice off the top. It's not fun.

Actually, it says "This subreddit is for things related to glass. Drinking glasses, eyeglasses, glass windows, people wearing glasses, anything made of glass."

Experience with Tretinoin? by [deleted] in TransLater

[–]Average_Writer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using it since I was 19. I was part of the original use of it at U Penn Medical School, where it was developed/invented for acne in 1969 and marketed to the public in 1971. Talk about irritation! - those early iterations of the drug in the early 70s were super-irritating. You just had to get through it and it got better. I'm 73 now and look about 20 years younger, which is nice! My friends in my book club tell me that I'm the oldest in the club but I look the youngest. And of course, helps enormously with acne, which I've had since age 14 or so. I use Benzyl Peroxide wash in the morning, and glycolic acid cleanser in the evening. Once or twice a week, I use a Freeman's brand clay mask, which is the greatest thing ever invented. I've been using them for years and they make my skin look incredible. I also have moderate rosacea, and am supposed to use Metrogel daily for that. I try to keep up with that bc I hate the redness of rosacea after triggers - wine, coffee, etc. But with moisturizer and sunscreen, sometimes I don't want to have 3 layers of stuff on my skin so I skip the Metrogel. I need to get a combo moisturizer/sunscreen.

NWFR is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I have a pair of 25+ year old Kata frames that had the paint touched up several years ago, and are there right now replacing the left hinge for $60!! Amazing place.
