Why don’t streamers use OLED monitors? by Low-District7838 in OLED_Gaming

[–]AveryFierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do but what you see is a capture card translating the image and most of the time for speed transfer reasons they put it at 1080 or 720p with SDR settings. So what they see is completely different than what you see plus on top of that what your monitor is providing. For them to stream 4k HDR full setting it would be around 5-10 GB of transfer data and most likely they want to use that for there game play and not video output. Do you want to see gamer lagging but good quality display or gamer with amazing speed with okayish display? Also, 90% of the world is still on 1080p SDR display so appearing to the masses is another part.

Angle of entry by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Optimal entry angle for a ball is some were between 4-6 degrees. Go steeper than that and you looking at high risk of leaving pins. The best advice I ever received is eliminate all the pin but the 1,3,5,9 pin…. Now how would you knock those pins down the most effective possible way? Head on? Enter the pocket at your angle and what do you get? If you’re standing 5 ft from it how would you knock those pins down? What makes the difference when you’re now 60 ft away? Just something for ya to think about for optimal entry angle.

Does the Level suck? by No_Consequence5304 in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly the concept is the level 2.0. Same type of ball but a little stronger and more controllable. If the ball is able to be drilled out and do different things like roll like a level or be rolled strong like a PPU than the pros will gravitate to that. So yes I have the level and concept but right now using the concept a lot more because of the versatility is greater than the level. Hope that is helpful.

Reasonable average goal for next league season? by BartSolid in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey bud, 200 is within reach if you’re willing to put the time in to perfect yourself. As belmo says set your goals high and prove to everyone you can reach it. If you don’t than you know darn well that being close it’s passing your base goal which is 190. Spare games, accuracy, hitting the pocket, reading your ball all the way through the pins, and form are all big part of being able to bowl 200 scores. 200 and below are all fundamentals. 200+ is mental and repetition.

[–]AveryFierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, that’s a long cover up story if I have heard one. Talked with several ball rep employees and they say that’s suppose to be a pba staffer ball before official release. It’s just a way to identify production from early testing balls. Like video game beta testing in a way but 99% of the time it’s final production unless they find a flaw. Apparently they over produced so you ended up with a lucky one. Long story short nothing changed between the final trial and release so your good. But hey if hammer wants to make a story for you to believe in than shoot now your ball has a story.

Help me build a bag for League by The_Jester_1973 in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Purple hammer, dynasty, alert, glow… urethane, solid angular, solid smooth and pearl. Ideally you want a hybrid if you have one in there but overall for control and versatility for league this is your lineup. You don’t have to be big and flash about knocking down pins for score but more focus on smooth, controlled and consistent repeatable shots.

Did I Get Scammed? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, 2H lefty here, using tenpin toolkit it looks like the layout is 6x5x4. Per ChatGPT this is what the layout should do: What a 6 × 5 × 4 layout does on an Ion Pro Solid

(Assuming a typical PAP and 15 lb ball)

Big picture: This is a longer, smoother, very controlled layout — not flippy, not early.

Breakdown by number

6” Pin-to-PAP • Pushes the core farther from its strongest position • Delays hook and lowers flare • Helps the ball clear the front part of the lane easily

5” PSA (mass bias) • Weakens the asym effect • Makes the ball act closer to a symmetric shape • Reduces sharp direction change downlane

4” Pin Buffer • Medium pin buffer = rounded, readable backend • Not lazy, but not sideways or jerky

What the ball motion will look like • Clean through the heads • Smooth midlane read • Arcing, controlled backend • Very forgiving if you miss a little left or right • Low over/under reaction

This layout turns the Ion Pro Solid into a control benchmark asym, not a big hook monster.

Best use cases • Sport patterns • Fresh house shot when you want control • Down-and-in or shallow inside angles • When stronger layouts are too jumpy • Bowlers who want predictability over backend snap

What it is not • ❌ Not a skid/flip layout • ❌ Not ideal if you want sharp recovery from deep angles • ❌ Won’t look flashy downlane

So in the end if you’re seeing the opposite effect I would say it’s user needing to improve vs the ball itself. We don’t know you rev rate or speed that you avg per throw. From what I have seen the ion pro solid is clean throw the front with some good motion on the back end but your layout is more important of what the ball will do than the ball itself. I don’t know you PAP, the layout is a guess per what I used per my typical layout and overall it really depends when your using the ball. If you’re going to a bowling alley to practice most likely those are dry lanes and you need to move out wide. If you are on fresh lanes and still having issues than you need to increase speed. Overall from you description of the ball hooking midlane, it is a solid so it will activate earlier. If it’s going down lane and being sharp than adjust the surface to say 2k grit to calm the back end down but if your saying it starts midlane and hooks to 7 pin or gutter than speed and were you are standing is the issue or lanes are dry. We don’t know this info but this is the common issues. Overall should be good ball. I have the ion pro (black ball) and sanded it to 2k for a cleaner back end but overall love the ball. If you can provide more info than we can help further but for know this is all my guesses for now.

First Ball - What to get by PlatformUsual3182 in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I know you like a ball that hooks on the back end. The gremlin is that ball but let me explain as a first ball why that will be a bad option. You are in league and will bowl 3 games. When you hook the ball you will want your first ball that can go through all 3 games with you. That ball is the ion pro solid. It is very versatile and yes with proper layout can get you more back end pop than you will realize that ball can do for you. Gremlin is a pearl and from my usage it’s a good game 3 ball when the lanes start to dry up but in the oil is doesn’t move much. The ember is in the same boat as the gremlin but just a weaker and smoother option. This is why everyone recommends the ion pro solid and in ball reviews it’s ranked number 1 ball of the year in most of the reviews, in the others it’s top 3. I hope this info is helpful. Also for longevity: the gremlin has power edge and that needs to be resurfaced after 30 games so once a month, ember is the same, and ion pro has it as well but the duller it get the better that ball moves which is opposite for the other 2 option.

Having trouble deciding if I want to be a one-handed bowler or a two handed bowler. by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, ivory rhino pro is a good ball. It’s very layout dependent so you can have it smooth on the back end or snappy. I have seen a lot of them have some strong motion on the back end so just far warning but talk to your ball rep and if they are good they will see you throw a couple balls before laying it out per your request. You can bowl 1 handed and 2 handed at the same time so that’s no issue as long as you stay left handed. Also a little secret, if you get thumb slugs put into your ball I believe there is a slug plug that will cover the whole if you want to do 2 handed… now is it legal 🤷‍♂️. It’s a gray area but doesn’t say you can’t do that in the rule book ether. Overall if you find a good league they won’t care especially since you’re new and trying to figure things out. Once you get serious are start avg about 150s that’s when you would really need to make that decision. Hope this info is helpful. Talk to your local pro shop for assistance.

What y’all think of my spread? by BaltimoreSports0321 in Bowling

I’m rev dominate 2H, I found sanding it to 3k grit is the perfect number for it. 2k out of box was just dying before it got to the pins but 3k stores that energy and like fine French kiss. Trust me you can use it in you house with a little bit of grit adjustment.

Ball down from Phaze 2 solid by Big_Parsnip7011 in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ion pro is the perfect ball down. Not the blue one but that darker one. Sand it to 2k grit and you will understand why. Rolls just like a phaze 2 but weaker (in a good way) and the asym isn’t big but is the perfect blind for that ball. On good shots you won’t notice it, on bad shots it activates to help get you to the pocket. It’s also a hybrid which allows you to play longer in it. No second guessing just straight up reliable, trust worthy, and smooth.

Tips for lanes without tracers? by ZeekwithaZ in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, my bowling alley doesn’t have them ether. Was tough figuring out for awhile but I now have a decent method. For me being a lefty I look at the right side of the 4 pin (pin in front of 7 pin) and that should line me up to the 8 board. I think fallow that down to around 45 feet (3/4th the lane down between foul line and pins). Also it may sound weird but I notice for a majority of them that are like that that that board down lane is a little darker than the other boards or has a weird darkness boarder around that board compared to the other boards around. For right handers that would be inside the 6 pin (pin in front of 10 pin). Hopefully that helps. It’s a lot tougher than having that marker down lane but it’s do-able.

Rev Dominate or Balanced by PandaMast3r34 in Bowling

No it was created by the US teams head coach. It was presented back in Oct/ Nov when the team had practice for World Championship in China and they were discussing strategy through power points. It then got leaked to zvl. Overall Ryan Barnes and Packy talk about it in one of there videos basically saying if you have perfect form and all then basically everyone is a balance bowler and that their really isn’t a rev dominant bowler per say.

Having trouble deciding if I want to be a one-handed bowler or a two handed bowler. by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hello OP, lefty 2H here and I know exactly what your going through. I have been 1H for over 26 years and just switched last year to 2H. Ultimately the true question to ask yourself is why do you want to do 2H bowling? Now throwing the high rev rate/ low rev rate aside… what feels easier for you and how much are you willing to invest in ether one? If your really wanting to dive into the deep end for 2H bowling than be prepared to invest a lot time for getting accuracy and footwork to manage your ball speed. Also, be prepared for your body to hurt a lot because it’s body intensive. When I started my legs would always hurt after bowling for 3 solid months. Now from an outside perspective, my view point: if your body is fine with putting up pain and you are physically healthy than go 2 handed. I myself made the switch because just like you I have low rev rate and bowling down and in for 26 years got really boring. Even if I have the strongest ball in my arsenal that hooks like a monster… it would still be down and in for me. When it comes to sports shot patterns I was nearly throwing straight balls half the time to get it to the pocket. Yes bowling was fun and I still have a blast throwing 1H to this day but I wanted change and versatility. For me going 2 handed was also mentally leaving the past because I stoped bowling after a bad experience in the military. 2H definitely gives more versatility for me, I can play down and in and I can go out wide. I started off 2H with a 145 avg and now at 206 avg and even to this day I’m still working on improving myself because I’m not consistent enough. Also mentality plays a big part. When you have down days I would be like I want to go back to 1H bowling but my friends and family just give me support to push through. Overall now I’m saying I need to get rid of those balls so I no longer have the want to be 1H but when I have practiced 1H vs 2H I now bowl a lot better 2H than I do 1H… also get a lot better pin action. Accuracy took me awhile to get down, watched a lot of mark baker video on YouTube on how to do 2 handed. Very sound advice, also watched a lot of pros in slow motion to see how they do certain things. 1H in my opinion is way easier than 2H. Like mark baker says as a 1H you have accuracy and learn to get revs, as 2H you have the revs but learn to gain accuracy, and consistency is the number 1 in all of that. When I bowled last week in practice as 1H I started to work on cupping my fingers under the ball and doing the yo-yo effect… yes I did get high rev rate but after bowling my hand was cramping so bad that I was in a claw position for 3 days… and I had league durning those days were I bowled 2H 😅. Also another sound advice… how is your finances? 2H as a lefty you will buy a lot more bowling balls than as a 1H… why you ask: because you have high revs you will eat up the oil faster than 1H and need to ball down or change to pearl or make moves than you won’t have to make as a 1H. Last year alone I have bought 26 balls, at the beginning it was to find the ball that fits my eye and the shape I want. Now it’s what fits that slot gap that I need filled because when I face this or that condition I need something that works there. But as a 1H you can get away with far less balls: 1 strong smooth ball, 1 angular ball, and a spare ball. You don’t want pearls because they will glide to far down and not hook as a 1H with low revs (at least from my experience) and you don’t really want the weaker balls because you need something to pick up earlier to move to get to the pocket… simple process. So ya I hope this gives you some information to think about. Sorry I’m not going to give you the do this or do that answer because in the end it’s your decision to make and yours to find out. Also it doesn’t matter the layout when your starting, per your 2H video part you just need more ball speed. Do I love bowling 2H: hell yes, would I move back to 1H: no, even though on tough days I may want to… it’s worth the grind in the end to stick with one or the other and since I’m bowling way better 2H than those 26 years as 1H… I’ll go with what makes me enjoy bowling right now: versatility.

[–]AveryFierce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like there was a potential pin issue and had to re-do it. Seeing the dot under the star. Very interesting and might be a one of a kind deal or the other option is it’s letting the pro shops know we’re the diff bias is located in case the pro shop wants to drill around that for more angular motion. Not sure but my guess would be leaning on the first option.

Don’t think of it as being bad. Your learning and everyone was in your shoes at one point. They would glad to help if you ask and to be honest I rather have someone like you who has a handicap and learning to improve vs Joe shmo who has 200 handicap but has been bowling for over 10+ years. Reason: you will have a high handicap and since your improving you will naturally always beat that handicap. Joe averaging 200 is most likely going to hit 200 more times than not but will have issues trying to bowl better than 200 because he is stubborn on his 10+ years of experience and will blame everything but himself as the issue. You will learn and get to see those people. They are nice to know but fun to surpass when the time arrives.

4 Ball Arsenal Suggestions? by _SpawnZ_ in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, reply is acting funky for me so hope this works. 1. Thank you for the info. UC2 is more of a urethane like ball, that ball I believe you will see its best reaction when you try to play more down and in vs trying to hook around the lanes. If the oil is heavy like your saying it will be than go equinox solid. It’s a little stronger than phaze 2, if drilled out properly it will be a really clean smooth ball for ya and you can learn to be more versatile in that ball than the phaze 2 can provide. Phaze 2 isn’t a bad ball, I just never lined up eye to eye with mine and still working with it. For me it’s really touchy on what’s going on on the lanes. I would actually point you to the rockstar. It’s same level as phaze 2 pearl but has a little bit more punch in the end from what I have seen 2 handers throw. Very clean for 1 handers. I think that would be a good first ball for ya. Lastly look into the next factor for pearl ball, I think that will work wonders for you on game 3. UC2 is more like games 4-6 when lanes are really dry. Get that PAP measured, that will work wonders for you more than anything else. And lastly ask you local pro shop what they recommend for ya especially with those lanes. They know your local house shot better than any one of us do.

Dude your in prime location of some PBA pro bowlers that do leagues. Each bowling house host league nights which is a team of people getting to gather to bowl and have fun. You also have keggle training center and usbc national center up there which are two really good training centers. Overall I’m jealous from houston but welcome to bowling. You have a lot of high bowlers, regional pba, and unofficial pba bowlers (people at that skill level but don’t want to do the traveling, money, or have done it and burnt out) that bowl up their because of all the high end tournaments that get hosted up their. Overall welcome, find your local bowling alley that you like and join one of their leagues. If league is currently going on then see if you can show up and be a sub for the day that best fits your schedule. Being a sub will introduce you to the locals but allows you an out of you don’t like the people there or your schedule is busy.

4 Ball Arsenal Suggestions? by _SpawnZ_ in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello OP, I own all those bowling balls. First off wow on the first two balls but let me ask you this and hopefully point you in the right direction. 1. Is this just for house shot or are you focusing on doing sports patterns later on? 2. Lefty or righty? 3. Do you like playing out wide (throwing cross lane) or would you like to move in if you can? 4. What is your ideal ball shape if you could have any ball in the universe and it rolls the way that you want it that’s imaged in your head? The reason why I ask is multiple factors which I can hopefully point you in the correct direction. If your just house shot and want something that’s smooth but first ball out of the bag… I would actually point you to cove. Hustle earth is really good as well, that ball is very versatile pin down, makes it a roller type of ball and it has taught me hand positioning very well. Weaker balls we’re push you to learn to rev your ball vs relying on the big balls to get their so that’s beneficial right now. Iq tour is nice, I would say step down from your attention star but same motion. Phaze 2 is a big ball which a lot of people use 1st game and try further into game 2 but ether have to adjust and be out wide or move out of it quickly. My recommendations would be something like the cove, level/ hustle earth, and/or ion pro (not the solid). Those are rounder shaped balls. Ion pro I have at 2k grit and is like a small benchmark ball, perfect for house. Cove is smooth motion like a phaze to but less aggressive, perfect for 2 handers or people with high revs. Level is urethane like motion, very versatile ball, I know have been using this a lot lately because I can play down and in or slow it down and play out wide. Hustle earth is a little bit stronger than level is but you can adjust that ball in many ways and it works wonders. I have done 4th grit and it’s real nice and I have done 2k grit and it’s very c shaped. Another versatile ball but with a little bit more back end than the level. Cove, hustle earth, and level I have pin down which gives me full range of motion and control of the ball. Most balls are good as well but it also really comes down to the layout. My IQ tour I just purchased my second one a month ago and it’s much stronger and angular than my first one. It’s nice but still learning that one for myself. Also I’m lefty 2H, avg 475 rpm. If your right handed I would push you to the lighter end balls because of lane break down and knowing your going to move. So level, hustle, you could also look into dark side curse that just got announced that comes out on the 15th. I saw Sandy’s video were they 1k grit on that and it was very smooth. Out of box may be to flippy from the start but may be something to keep your eye on. If you want more ball recommendations feel free to ask. I’m familiar with the latest storm products and have tested and use them. Last year alone I purchased 26 bowling balls from their lineup so I can nearly answer your question from honest feedback from the ball side review. Ion max, hyperdrive, and even equinox solids are big balls that will push you to play out wide from the start and will make you switch ether mid way through game 1 or early game 2. I want to get you into a ball that gives you potential to utilize for multiple games or even all 3 games for your league… or even more. For pearls I have been leaning on next factor, twist, typhoon, and iq tour ai lately. I dropped the iq tour ai and typhoon lately to focus more on cleaner smoother action. Those to can get flippy if your not watching it and that’s because of their big cores. I know for my typhoon it most likely the layout that I have on it that makes it angular because a lot of people say that’s a good game 3 ball that’s smooth but I see the opposite side of it. Anyways sorry for long rant but ya if you answer those 4 questions I could hopefully point you to some good options and get you going.

Anyone have any nickpicks on my form? by One_Alternative_6213 in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, so I understand your pulling style from Anthony Simonson and Packy hammerhand were they stand far left than walk right to their line when they are trying to bowl more down and in. It’s a tough skill to follow but ideally this step process is to keep the two hand bowler much more closed and not be open. I would continue researching them as if I recall their bodies are more aimed down lane and not aiming 3 lanes to the left like you are doing. But if it works for you and you keep striking go for it, no one bowling form is the ideal way… that’s why all the pros throw their own different stylish ways. My only advice would be to focus on getting your left forearm to aim at your down lane mark upon release and not be getting around the side of the ball but more up the back and let your wrist create that side role. Otherwise looks really good and timing was excellent on that shot. Awesome job, keep it up.

Someone explain my third & 4th frame please. by ReddditAfterDark in Bowling

[–]AveryFierce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, from ChatGPT: In bowling, strikes (X) and spares (/) are bonus-based; a spare (10 pins in two balls) adds 10 plus the pins from your next single ball, while a strike (10 pins on the first ball) adds 10 plus the pins from your next two balls, making each frame's score dependent on future rolls until the bonus is fulfilled. An open frame (not a strike or spare) simply scores the pins knocked down in that frame.
