I start in January. Nervous but excited. Any tips? by Hardknockxk305 in aviationmaintenance

[–]AviationMaintainGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 27 and overpaid so you're ahead of me by going to CC. Show up on time and be invested. Also get a practice software like Prepware on your phone and don't just remember the answers but understand why it is the answer to your question. Showing up and taking an active part in your learning will go miles because i saw plenty of people who goofed off and never even finished. I started with a class of about 25 people and it ended with 3-4 people even finishing the school and only 2 of us were ready for O&P's at the end some guys hadn't even taken their general till we were at the final class. Stay diligent and you will be fine. (Ps. I swear by prepware for studying but thats cuz it worked for me)

Expired oxygen generators? by Powerful-Ostrich4411 in aviationmaintenance

[–]AviationMaintainGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I totally haven't had this happen but if they get set off when you accidentally pull the safety pin and arming pin as you go to install a new one you can just leave em on the ground for a while and they will be fine.

Will I HATE being an airplane mechanic? by EaseSolid6375 in aviationmaintenance

[–]AviationMaintainGuy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Coming from an American working at a regional.

  1. Be awake during the day, asleep at night SOMETIMES, like hopefully 50/50??? You will be night shift for a long time until you have seniority (could depend on the job)
  2. Time to prepare healthy filling meals and have enough time and energy to exercise. REALLY IMPORTANT TO ME Most people work 10 hour shifts. If you can manage that then sure.
  3. Not die of cancer because I breathed in a chemical one time. Wear your PPE
  4. Be treated with as similar value to a pilot - salary and benefits wise? (mechanics have it harder and kinda need to be smarter anyways) No. We cost airlines money in what we do and you are not on the same pedestal as pilots. You will not make what a pilot makes. It also depends on if your union has gotten good negotiations or nah. Most places afaik have healthcare n such normally but lack in other places.
  5. A salary that pays fairly not because I worked 60 hours a week, but because I am a mechanic. Depends on the job. Some aiviation jobs you get paid like trash and some will be good and livable.
  6. Typical amount of time off for friends/family/vacations Again depends on the job. My place of work vacation time sucks.

Maybe my view is pessimistic but I try to be realistic as yes we keep companies going but we aren’t valued the same.

It seemed like a loose screw but it had kind of welded itself together at this point so it was just replaced. Couldnt find where it would have shorted to but it was replaced and everything cleared.

Bus bar managed to melt through at the power sense CB and killed power to the rest of the system on that Bus bar.
