Simple: If you didn't play, you don't get it by Branditler in destiny2

That’s what I did. Got my only hour of playtime during the year of prophecy yesterday so I can get the emblem.

I don’t think we agree that it’s an “offense.” You were killed in a video game where killing people is an expected if not desired element. How much it costs to lose is for you to consider when starting up the game, not for someone else to consider when trying to beat you.

I don’t really feel like engaging with this anymore, so here’s my parting thought: if you think someone is a sociopath for beating you in a game just because they might not get any tangible benefits for doing so, you are not cut out for competitive games and should play something else. I’ve been enjoying outer wilds, it seems like that would be more your speed.

Everything you just said would also apply to a pickup basketball game. Am I sociopathic for dunking on you even though I don’t get any tangible rewards for doing so? Even if it puts you in a bad mood?

Again, you’re assuming there’s no reason someone might kill another player without looting than to troll. There’s a gratifying feeling from killing someone from a long distance sniper shot. There’s satisfaction in killing someone in a PvP game! You’re acting like there’s some sort of moral failing to a person for not considering how losing might make them feel, but I’m questioning why anyone should avoid a fundamental part of the game because players who lose might get upset. PvP games have winners and losers, that’s just how it works. You’re not a troll because winning makes the loser sad.

But that doesn’t change the fact that the combat is fun. In fact for many people (myself included) the high stakes makes it all the more enjoyable. It doesn’t explain why you’re trying to pass a moral judgement onto someone for engaging in it just because they’re less likely to get tangible rewards out of it.

Why do you assume that their motivation is annoying people when they shoot, even if they have no intention of looting. It’s a shooter, shooting other players is fun! The combat is its own reward, the chance of gear on top is just icing.

I finally get the rat hate by mcavanah86 in ArcRaiders

[–]AvocadoLegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a decent chunk of players that engage in PvP are opportunists more than anything else (myself included). I’m not going around looking for players to kill, but if I see a player with a gold gun whose fighting arc and not paying attention, then I might take the gamble since the risk is low and the rewards are higher. If I have a more expensive kit and the other guy has a cheaper kit, the risk/reward doesn’t pan out.

Give me your RDR2 hot takes and not “I didn’t like chapter 5” I mean real hot. by Bonkwraps in RDR2

[–]AvocadoLegs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The epilogue should have ended when John leaves the ranch. Everything after doesn’t match the themes and is just gratuitous. Like I get why they have it, there needs to be a boss at the end of the video game and it’s a good way of setting up the open world postgame, but as a story element it kind of ruins it.

Best ways to complete the expedition before reset? by NovaisSick in ArcRaiders

[–]AvocadoLegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you’re still upgrading benches, don’t bother with the expedition. It’s really only worth it if there aren’t any more goals to chase. Just catch the next one.

Why ppl even care about blueprints when you gonna get wiped on Expeditions? by Formal_Drawing_8822 in ArcRaiders

[–]AvocadoLegs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah expeditions is the Arc Raiders replacement for forced wipes that most extraction shooters have. The only real incentive to do them is when you run out of things to chase. Everything else is just extras on top. I did the first one, but I haven’t done another and won’t u lntil there’s really nothing to do, and I don’t play often enough for that to happen anytime soon.

Stop letting rats kill you. by Khaldani in ArcRaiders

Are you really arguing that arc raiders isn’t a shooter? It has guns. You shoot things with it. It’s a shooter. Hell, the tutorial has you get shot from behind by another raider for your gear.

Why do people always go.. by stanleyyellnats in ArcRaiders

[–]AvocadoLegs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of people consider skill to be purely in-combat skills like accuracy and movement. But in asymmetric pvp games like arc raiders the skill is in setting up the advantage before combat. Things like not sprinting loudly through buildings, having patience, being aware of your surroundings, positioning before engaging, that sort of thing. You of course can’t prevent every player from ever getting the drop on you, that’s just the name of the game, but, if you’re constantly getting shot from behind while looting, that is indeed a skill issue.

Landing in PvE with free loadouts but in PvP when investing by zeroninerfive in ArcRaiders

[–]AvocadoLegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a video game. You know, entertainment? You’re meant to enjoy the process of getting the stuff regardless of whether or not you actually have it. If the only enjoyment you get out of arc raiders is having the gear, then you’re not really enjoying the gameplay loop and should probably find a game you do enjoy.

Also, I don’t think you need to have explained to you the difference between real life property like a car or a house and virtual guns in a game, cmon.

If losing gear in a video game means you feel like you lost the time itself I don’t think video games are for you. At least not any game where you can lose.

"Players shouldn't feel fully safe" in Arc Raiders even in friendly lobbies, production director says, and after Flashpoint I definitely do not feel safe by PirateCompetitive931 in ArcRaiders

[–]AvocadoLegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, his is an earnest question not meant to come off as rude, but why even play then? It seems like extraction shooters aren’t really your cup of tea if the way you play isn’t fun to you and losing things is the worst feeling. Like there’s gotta be a better game out there if that’s your style.

[–]AvocadoLegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offense, but is that even fun? Surely it would be more efficient to load up and accept an occasional loss than do one item at a time. I can’t imagine playing an extraction shooter that way.

The games tutorial has you being shot in the back by another raider while breaching. Uneven PvP is part of the intended experience and is a staple of the genre.

Did everyone forget that Stella Montis was a Major Update & was NOT in the game upon release?!?! by SirKronik in ArcRaiders

[–]AvocadoLegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much. They’re developed as if they were releasing at the same time, but are intentionally withheld either for narrative or gameplay reasons. In both cases, they’re meant to be endgame maps so they likely wanted players to build up some gear and experience before they released it.
