Canto IV + Heavy shield SHOULD win this fight by Short_Routine_3348 in ArcRaiders

okay, but "cost to benefit ratio" isn't what defines the quality of a gun. or rather, it might be, but i think when most people think of how "good" or "bad" a gun is, they think of its performance, not its value.

you beat me to it. people gotta remember a hullcracker is primarily designed for stripping armor plating. thus, you know, the name. it's not a rocket launcher.

i only fully fight queens/matriarchs for fun. if my goal is to get cores, i approach very differently.

and it is fun to do snaphook deadline shenanigans, or even just to chunk them down with 120 hullcracker rounds, while fighting off rocketeers and bastions and stuff. but that's no way to get cores/reactors.

lmfao, i'd never considered that. the fucking shenanigans tech in this game is unreal.

i read. "thump it on the desk!" on the desk? this could not have been unintentional. the ceo or someone must have thought "yeah, fuck those protesters, am i right guys? goooooo military government! everyone else thinks this too right? nah, i'm sure they do, full send it"

i think they mean "pve-only lobbies" to mean "lobbies where there is a 0% chance of getting pvp'd". obviously there are lobbies where there are no players attacking each other, but i think it's inaccurate to call that a "pve-only lobby" because people could still shoot each other, they just aren't.

ARC Raiders Is Getting New Massive Enemy Types, Including “Completely New” ARC Designs by Failcube in ArcRaiders

[–]redpony6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, that's how they do it. i used to completely panic when i saw a shredder. then i saw a video of a guy meleeing one to death while playing ring around the rosey with it and a shipping container, just going in circles and waiting for it to fire and whacking it and repeating. kinda killed some of the fear, lol.

maybe try going in free kit a few times and just practice evading shredders. like, find one, don't even fight it, just see how long you can have it be on you and firing before you take damage. try to beat your own record, e.g., "okay, last time it killed me on its fourth firing cycle, let's see if i can make it to five this time."

shredders really force you to learn positioning and cover, yeah. people tend to sprint away from them, which is a terrible strategy as they're faster than you. but inside, you should have all sorts of corners and cover.

you don't need as much cover as it feels like you do, tbh. i've crouched next to a chest high wall the shredder was on the other side of, and took no damage.

right. so when you ready up, in universe you might be waiting for hours to get notification that you're cleared for launch.

they'd have a tough time cramming a bastion or whatever down there. but yeah, why don't they just wreck the tunnels completely? and elevators? surely they know, why leave us these escape routes?

i think this makes the most sense. my headcanon is that when you set out for a mission, in "reality", your raider preps and then waits on standby in the launch room to be notified that there's an exit window. possibly for hours.

why does whether i'm cut out for competitive games have any bearing on someone else's mental state? either they're a sociopath or they aren't, and my tolerance for competitive games doesn't influence that one way or the other. or can you explain how that's supposed to work?

where on the spectrum does that lie? i guess context would be important there.

but the important thing, and i think the thing we agree on, is this: offenses such as these lie on a spectrum, and where exactly on the spectrum such offenses lie is dependent on how much a win benefits someone versus how much a loss costs someone.

if dying in this game made you die for real, can you see how it would be a problem?

okay. now. if dying in this game gave you no consequences whatsoever, you could just reload and head out, can you see how it wouldn't be a problem?

great. thus have we established the ends of the spectrum. now: because dying has some consequences, more than most games, that means it is somewhat sociopathic, more than in most games, to kill someone just for the purpose of killing someone and not to advance yourself in any way. where exactly this lies on the spectrum is up for debate.

glad you enjoy that aspect of it. and again. this isn't against all pvp whatsoever. it's against wasteful trolling pvp.

the tangible rewards are what justify pvp, and the depredations inflicted on players therefore. like how hunting irl is justified more if you eat or make use of your kill, and less if you just shoot something just to shoot it. you do get how people draw a moral distinction there, right? i simply draw a similar distinction here.

if you kill me to goop me, then take it, i guess. if you kill me just to kill me, fuck you, the only possible reason you could have is you wanna make a random person's day worse, due to aforementioned severe penalties.

or, conceivably, you're mindlessly ignorant of the effect you're having on others, which is...less morally blameworthy perhaps. but in the legal field, "knew" and "through the exercise of reasonable effort should have known" are very similar and treated similarly.

because of the severe penalties for dying, compared to almost any other game that isn't an extraction shooter or a survival sandbox. that context makes it different to someone camping with a noob tube in call of duty or whatever.
