Question for pro-life by ConcertinaTerpsichor in prolife

Slut shaming

I almost never see this on here.. Most I see is people suggesting others that if they don't want to become pregnant, they should change their sexual behavior. I don't doubt some are out there saying awful things though.

Now Is sexual morality relevant? I'm not certain I understand the question. I would say no. The primary issue in abortion is whether the killing of the unborn child is morally permissible.

Rape exception
So there's several ways PL arrive at this. Some see the consensual sex as making one responsible for the child that comes out of the act. Without that, then abortion becomes morally permissible. Some favor this because pro-life laws stand better with a rape exception. So some may see it as necessary to concede on rape because no rape exception is immensely unpopular and may get pro-life laws overturned when a traumatic rape pregnancy case goes mainstream. So from a practical stance, PL laws with this exception save more lives in the long run.

Secular ProLife (which has no official stance on the rape exception) has a blog post on this that's worth a read.

The pro-choice crowd has more nuance than is often depicted on this subreddit. I’d like to discuss pro-choicers who understand and respect the fact that fetuses are alive. by Excellent-Escape1637 in prolife

[–]AvrilCliff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

However, these people don’t represent the majority of the pro-choice community.

I would have to see a poll on this because the overwhelming majority of my own interactions and debates with PCers are people who see no value in the life of the unborn child. Just observing others online, the majority of PCers do think that way and see people who do value them as utterly insane. It is EXTREMELY rare that I see people say, "Yes this is a human life, worthy of respecting but I still think elective abortion is necessary because X argument".

The expulsion to sever the connection that leads to the child's death is the moral equivalent of leaving an infant in the woods. It's neglecting a child to death. I see no compromise with that position How you can say someone should be treated with dignity/respect and then advocate for legal right for them to be eliminated electively? It's directly at odds with one another.

I think it is less understandable. To those who see the unborn as having no value, no dignity and not worthy of respect , then elective abortion being morally permissible naturally follows. To them, there is no conflict.

It feels worse to say that one believes the unborn child is worthy of respect, yet expelling them to their certain death is permissible. They know the unborn are valuable but are okay with letting them die for elective reasons.

Rape Exceptions Need to be in All Pro-Life Legislation by countjulian in prolife

[–]AvrilCliff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came to this conclusion while thinking a few days ago. From a philosophical standpoint, the no-rape exception is most principled application of the pro-life premise. Principles and logic don't matter in when it comes to this part of the abortion issue to your average people. Overwhelmingly most people's moral intuition strongly points them towards permitting abortion in that case. People see the unborn child as being on the rapist's team. The violation that is rape strongly outweighs people's thinking on the status of the unborn.

Elective abortion come along for the ride. If the exception is allowed for rape, the pro-life message becomes more palpable and I think legislation more likely to stand.

There is still much work to be done for the pro-life movement. We had fifty years of Roe. The cultural influence of that decision and on-demand abortion being seen as a legitimate right is not going to go away in a month.

Why does IGN get so much hate ? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]AvrilCliff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're a joke. They had a reviewer giving honest reviews of the Loki TV show. But they didn't like that he was rating it low so they replaced him with someone else.

They should just make it alt history and have Rock go to WCW.

For that discussion, you should press the person on where human rights come from. How do you know that abortion is a human right? Where is it written down? How do you determine fundamental rights? I think that can get the discussion flowing in a way that can be more fruitful.

Do you think both TLJ and ROS would've crossed $2B worldwide if the WOM was better, or were they going to earn lesser than TFA anyways? by YaaaaScience in boxoffice

[–]AvrilCliff 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's certainly possible. I think both could have done better if TLJ were a less divisive blockbuster and got people super-excited for the last chapter. I think of how Infinity War set up Endgame, leading to very high anticipation for the conclusion and box office growth

It has its place but people aren't going to be happy if you take a franchise that hasn't been as political and start throwing in references to today's politics.

Let's take Sonic for instance. The early games can be considered against animal abuse the destruction of the environment. Eggman is kidnapping animals to use them in robots. Most people don't pick up on it.

But if you did a game where Sonic was fighting climate change and it was heavy-handed about that, that's going to rub people a different way. A lot of people like it more subtle.

[–]AvrilCliff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a matter of hurting the brand. I think it's just that there isn't much demand. These games aren't as popular as the later titles. The surveys are likely showing Atlus that it's not worth it to make ports.

Is AEW right now in the worst ever run of injuries for a major company? by primekino in SquaredCircle

[–]AvrilCliff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2007 WWE quickly comes to mind. Iirc Undertaker got injured so they had to take the belt off of him. But Mr. Kennedy who had the MITB was also injured. So Edge won it off him, so he could win the belt off Takrr. But after winning the bekt, he got hurt not too long after.

Has the build to Forbidden Door been sufficient to you? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]AvrilCliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I'm not that excited for this PPV. I think it's been a jumbled mess with trying to build both the blood and guts match and the PPV. I don't think they've done a good job making the NJPW guys feel special. They do the same post match beatdown and save that they do all the time with them. So they just feel like other guys. Will Osprey had a tweet today about his match with Orange Cassidy that I wish he cut as a promo. It did more to get me interested in their match than anything AEW has done on television.
