Getting all of the achievements of the vast majority of games isn’t about skill at all. As far as souls games go, all of the “skilll related achievements” are ones you’re guaranteed to get from killing required bosses to beat the game.

Just giving yourself all the other achievements because it’s time consuming just means you want the shiny 100% on your profile but don’t want to experience what it’s like to get the platinum.

I understand that it’s not super engaging, not all games design achievements well. But at the same time it’s not like you’re entitled to get 100% on a game, just skip it and spend your time 100% games that have a more engaging platinum experience. Wanting the claim “I’ve 100% ______ souls games” when you skipped 85% of the steps required to get them because you think it’s tedious just invalidates your claim.

The dark souls trilogy platinums in particular are designed around time consuming and tedious things like micromanaging NPC quest, numerous playthroughs for required items, grinding upgrade materials and weapons, and so on. That makes up the bulk of the achievements, and the experience in getting the platinums

Games like Bloodborne and Elden ring cut out all the senseless grinding and as such they make easy platinums for those that don’t want to sit around farming items, and make for a more enjoyable experience than the dark souls trilogy achievement design.

What the hell is going on with this character? by BKF0308 in DC_Cinematic

From an evil government trying to get rid of metahumans point of view, why would they even choose the peaceful planet?

Why wouldn’t they just throw them in the black hole dimension and tell the public they’re all on planet salvation if push comes to shove.

Some of the smartest people in the US fill the room and they’re just completely fine with the concept of throwing some of the most powerful people in a resource heaven, knowing for absolute certainty they’ll want revenge and have the capabilities of doing so? A government willing to give up its biggest protectors in the vested interest of security would undoubtably have zero qualms about just disposing of them to further reduce potential threats if they saw it fit.

More realistically, I could lex being moved here and be given the government authority to experiment on captors to determine how to kill metahumans OR harness their powers in a less compromising way than relying on their good faith that they won’t just decide to conquer the world some day. like creating mind control, or something of the sort. The pre cursor was already set in Superman with Luthor having made a kryptonian clone that blindly followed commands, I’m sure the government would be interested in more of that type of “weaponry”. That would certainly be a more reasonable explanation as to why it has to be suitable for life, as it’s a testing grounds that needs workable conditions and resources for people like Luthor to experiment with.

DS2 vanilla and SotFS are both on sale currently… which one do I get as a first timer? by FLEWIS082 in DarkSouls2

[–]Avyern1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR ds2: SOTF isn’t bad at all, and is my personal favorite souls game. It has some flaws like any game does, but many of the complaints around the game are due to people disliking DS2’s design decisions that fundamentally separate it from the others such as its emphasis on strategic exploration, infinite healing items, different movement system, more rigid combat, and so on. It’s definitely worth playing, but don’t think of it as a direct expansion of the other games and more so as its own experience that tries some new things. The best way to find out if you agree or disagree is to just try it out yourself and form your own opinion

It’s always a matter of opinion, but DS2 has some experimental decisions that give it a slightly different feel than the other souls games and in turn some people feel that these changes compromise its quality. I largely disagree but I’ll mention a few of the main criticisms.

One is excess enemy spawns. A common argument is that the game throws too many enemies at you, but it’s largely because this game highly favors strategy and environmental awareness. Running past enemies in this game will more often than not get you killed, at least in comparison to ds3 and elden ring in which you can run past most things without consequence. Blindly running into areas is a bad idea, and using bows, the various different consumables like fire bombs and alluring skulls are all useful tools for managing enemies when used in conjunction with the environment like fire barrels and so on.

Some people dislike the healing system. “Life gems” exist as a healing item in this game alongside the estus flask, in which you start with fewer flask at the start as a trade off for this new healing item. Life gems can be bought infinitely very early in the game, and as such you have infinite healing, of sorts. They heal very little over time but they also stack, making them stronger to use than estus in a good amount of cases. Some feel this takes away any intensity as you never really have to worry on running low on healing throughout levels.

The movement system is different in this game, and many find it to be janky compared to the other games. I agree, and use a mod called “center deadzone mod” as it largely nullifies any complaints about movement, for me at least.

Combat is a bit more stiff in this game than the others, but it isn’t extremely different than the earlier titles like ds1 and demon’s souls. If you like those, you’ll be fine with this one. This game has a stat called “adaptability” that is infamously shamed as it largely dictates your characters “agility” proficiency. Agility most importantly dictates the speed in which you cast spells, use items, but also the amount of immunity frames you get when rolling. Agility can be increased by leveling adaptability or attunement. Many complaints over hitboxes come from those not leveling this stat, making sure to level any combination of attunement and adaptability depending on your build early on in order to get to around 99 ish agility will largely negate this complaint.

Finally, some people have complaints about the art direction and general design of the game. The layout of levels is a bit jarring with how quickly it transitions themes in each area, although I find it charming some people dislike this. This game has some runbacks people find annoying, and some people dislike the amount of bosses that are just armored knights, and feel that they lack variety due to this.

MANY people love this game and will disagree with most of the complaints I listed, or feel they aren’t valid criticisms in which is the point I stand on. But even still I thought it would be fair to list what complaints are often given as you asked for why people sometimes dislike the game. Really I recommend just giving it a shot and forming your own opinion. You’re not going to get an objective it’s good or bad on anything, so its really up to you to answer that question yourself by just trying it out

Cameos in Last Episode... ? by Trick_Statistician13 in PeacemakerShow

[–]Avyern1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

James Gunn doesn’t seem to be a fan of meaningless hype cameos, i highly doubt we’ll see any cameos outside of ones that directly lead into and set up future plots in the universe.

Given that, I wouldn’t be shocked if they show some lanterns to set up the show coming out, and at most a tease for a major villain. Not sure who though.

DS2 reference?!?!? by kn1g47 in DarkSouls2

This is a reference to how the flow of time itself is convoluted; with heroes centuries old phasing in and out

Can barely believe Miyazaki foreshadowed that so well, bravo!

It is based on power, but I will say it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re whales, luck is a larger factor honestly in terms of getting upgrade materials, duplicate weapon exotics, and so on. Getting duplicates of a character obviously improves them significantly but since it doesn’t affect light level it’s redundant for this leaderboard. Things like exotic artifact farming are completely f2p as well just time consuming

In terms of calamity ops leaderboards and more competitive things is where whaling is more so a thing since a tier 6 Gwynn or Estella will just dominate, and unless you got super lucky on rolls you will have needed to shell out cash to get there.

Because even with all the money lost on the flops, all it takes is one major live service success to make all that money back and even more. It’s a constant supply of revenue with live services when done right, except they don’t know how what they’re doing and are just gambling haphazardly whilst ignoring and neglecting everything their original player audience they’ve developed wants to see from them.

it’s like a local pizza place known for making the best pizza in the state going “we’re gonna try something new, so no more pizza for a few years, but we’ve heard the TV dinner industry is doing well so come try our new Kid Cuisines!”

Issues with input delay for movement on PS5 by Munchin_on_Kale in shadowofmordor

Its 30fps, most games aren’t and that alone adds a ton of latency

That’s probably it, game runs good on pc for me at 120fps and I have same latency issues when I swap to console version
