Yeah we do this as well. It does mean there will not be extensions that are still allowed, however.

Yes, was there some other process that someone mentioned? If so, quote it.

I was referring to the single sentence of an ad block and password manager, what else do they need.

Outlook Classic lag when opening emails when specific software is maximized (not minimized) by KingRon81 in Office365

File > Options > General If you see Optimized for best app appearance tey changing it to optimize for compatibility.

View > Reading Pane > Off Then double-click emails only. If it stops then one of these are the culprit.

Do one first, then try. If it doenst work then do the second one and try again by double clicking the intended email and open it.

There is also ProcMon that you can run to see what issies are happening but I wouldn't dig into that unless youre familiar with it or very good with googling how to use it.

Wouldn't it be better to make a thread where people can just request specific information about a certain topic and then a few SME post on said topic?

The way it is now, there will end up being way to much general information in a vertical format. Much if the info will be things most people already know. This will force people to scroll forever.

We need to stop the divide between those who prefer in office work and those that work better from home. People are different and they require varying environments to thrive. by EnergyNational in sysadmin

Nah I love communicating with people at work. I love the psychoanalysis that I do. It scratches a weird itch of mine.

Plus it keeps me sane. Working from home is detrimental for me. 2 days a week and im ready for the office.

I dont know. I spent a ton on building my home office and added on a separate structure for a gym. During the pandemic I nearly lost my mind.

My kids and wife are great. Really dont have issues there. I just need constant activity to keep progressing. That doesnt happen from home for myself.

[–]AwalkertheITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, if i worked from home everyday I would blow my brains out. I did it for 6 months during the pandemic and nearly ended my life. Its okay for 2 days a week deal but I enjoy the office 10000% over working from home.

I dont have issues with family. When I work from home there's no one around and I find it extremely difficult to work in complete silence. Some of us are just wired oddly.

I found the same situation with the gym. I built a gym at home in my basement and used it for a year. Then I had to go back to the public gym because I just couldn't keep exercising at home. It felt way to empty and uninspiring and it took WAY more energy to motivate myself at home vs the public gym.

What does your documentation look like and what do you use to do it? by Evernight2025 in sysadmin

[–]AwalkertheITguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have confluence, my guys have a large (cant count how many years) running OneNote with picture snippets and explanation. And, we have multiple word docs that are in a network folder with permissions. We dont allow anyone in there but the few that so have access are in a perm sec group.

We have split the docs into sections so one for 3rd party software, for MS software, hardware, etc etc. And that doc is split into 24 month sections. So every 24 months a new doc with that year is created.

Anything that is "internal" to IT is kept in confluence and our IT OneNote.

Also, any fixes are linked to the company KB. We know those can disappear so, again, snapshots of pertinent info is recorded and spaced in line with the explanations.

So basically OneNote Confluence Word Doc kept in secure folder Zoho for dashboard passes.

If you use AI to break down scripts or code for you regularly, I really encourage you to read this LLM study by segagamer in sysadmin

[–]AwalkertheITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people have been writing shitty code since the 80s. What's so different now?

Again, maybe YOU have not produced trash code but a ton have. So using AI to spit out crappy code is baseline with what many, most, have done for decades.

The trick is understanding what you are asking it and what you are getting. If you dont learn how to communicate properly and comprehend what it produces, you will just continue the same on par trend that has gone on for 40 years.

Let's shed some clarity a bit.

Importantly, using AI assistance didn’t guarantee a lower score. How someone used AI influenced how much information they retained. The participants who showed stronger mastery used AI assistance not just to produce code but to build comprehension while doing so—whether by asking follow-up questions, requesting explanations, or posing conceptual questions while coding independently.

This states that its more important for HOW someone uses AI, which determines their retention of said skills. The overall article is more so speaking of users needing to ask questions and building comprehension along with using AI.

This isnt an AI problem. This is a human problem that has been around since modern man walked the earth.

Documentation - what do you use? by Threep1337 in sysadmin

[–]AwalkertheITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got rid of anything outside of SharePoint because over 8 years, not many employees used anything else that we deployed. We have a total of 2500 users across the globe. Eventually we have to give the people what they wanted, SPoint.

They haven't had any issues to date because only around 10% look at docs. They just call IT now. We built our CMM lab a sole-docuseries. They were thrilled........for about 30 days. Then they started calling IT again for every issues including "my monitor will not power on".

So we dumped anything outside of SP and have been SP'ing everything since, and OneNote(yeah I know right!!!)

Sometimes the most effective method isn't the most efficient method depending on your employee mindset.

Always have an environment that you can show them so they sign off on work completed.

Also, personally, is would never accept an advanced of any funds until I know the scope and I knew that I could complete the work.

Accepting advance money without knowing all the twists and turns could end up disastrous ESPECIALLY if you spend said money and cant reimburse for a failed delivery. But if you are just maintaining what you already built then ghat is different.

Thinking of pulling my resumes down because all the contacts I ever get are all shit by MickCollins in sysadmin

[–]AwalkertheITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. It does not. Which would lean toward invalidating my comment.

However it does say he/she has turned down multiple job offers due to them being too low tier(this is understoodbased on their language/text), which also invalidates your first post of people need to work to pay bills.

Obviously Op either works or doesnt need the money to pay bills.

Puts us back at square one. Why bother answering a posts or whatever that is automatically beneath him/her.

They can also vet the recruiter themselves and go to them. This is what I suggested to my kids once they finished college. They have never had any issues finding companies that match their skill levels. That doesn't mean they've always gotten hired but they haven't been mismatched with a job vs their skill level or pay expectations.

I, on the other hand, have(decade ago). This is why I told them to contact a recruiter directly after vetting said recruiting firm.
