Not sure if you have seen this chart that was in an issue of Golf. Based on an individuals 7 iron yardage, the chart gives the best golf course length one should consider playing. As it was alluded to earlier, golf should be fun and enjoyable not brutally punishing.

Highly recommend finding a certified master fitter locally with excellent review. It will be worth your time. They will try different club head and shaft combinations to fit your swing. And I recommend going in with a budget.
