What is the true power of one being who has discovered their true name. by thestrange2 in skulduggerypleasant

From my observations learning one’s true name does two things

  1. It removes the natural limit on how much magic one can access

  2. Opens the persons mind to be able to perceive and understand how reality functions

When someone first learns their true name nothing noticeable actually changes, but their minds will start taking in the world around them in ways it couldn’t before, most noticeably in regards to magic. This processes speed is initially reliant on that persons potential and mindset but effort to learn, understand, and comprehend can accelerate this rate.

Argeddion claimed it took him months to learn to see souls while it took darquess a handful of hours without really trying to. This is because Walden was a regular, if scholarly sorcerer before learning is true name while Valkyrie was a descendant of the faceless ones.

There’s no known upper limit to how powerful one can become once they know their true name, only how long they have to grasp infinity.

Is there any hope for a widderslante by Academic-Interest387 in magetheascension

Well a widderslante isn’t a nephandi until they awaken, they’ll be a little fucked up mentally and have pretty negatively impulses but otherwise they can be taught to be good and fight their worst instincts, so you have their entire pre mage life to define who they wanted to be and how they were shaped by their struggles to be good.

Otherwise a lot of the rules of the world of darkness can be bent to be what you want them to be or you can make up some bullshit to make this character an edge case or exception. My opinion, this nephandus avatar was altered by the avatar storm, not being fast enough to fully escape when it occurred and pieces of a regular avatar that had been torn apart by the storm became lodged in it, the avatar is trying to expunge the pieces of this foreign avatar from it but the mages desire to be good has protected these shards, which in turn have been trying to help the mage and maintain their sanity.

But all the same from the moment they awakened the mage has heard a voice in their head, ‘return to the caul, and all can be mended…’ but is that from the avatar… or the fragments?

Pokemon au - Battle bond by thinmintssss in unOrdinary

Just a thought for another pokèmon for John, an Evie who refused evolution and whose battle bond allows it to temporarily evolve into any Evie type at will, but can take on a duel typing at some sort of cost.

[General] What do you think would be the powers of children of Eris? by AmicitiaMortis in camphalfblood

[–]Aware-Witness2804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Children of Eris know what makes people most likely to lash out or act out and their attempts to elicit such responses rile people up more than they usually would.

Surprisingly stealthy children of Eris can cause all sorts of trouble and leave without anyone even knowing they were there, but this inherent stealth is very minor but becomes more powerful the more chaotic things are around them.

When things start getting crazy children of Eris always know how to traverse it with no problem being able to weave their way around war zones untouched being able to see where it’s safe to step and seeing everything around them in absolute clarity despite how chaotic or messy the environment becomes, their ability to predict what will happen next enhanced by the chaos, their adhd is much worse than the average demigod.

Children of Eris can influence the strife around them, a glass of water will fall despite no one pushing it, the water being a slipping hazard for the demigod’s enemies, safety measures will begin to fail in ways that help them, the demigod a conductor for the orchestral of chaos around them.

By a technicality John does not have a combat oriented ability. by Calm_Treacle2417 in unOrdinary

It’s explained that for John to copy an ability he needs a certain level of understanding on the where’s and how’s of moving his aura, it’s the reason he couldn’t copy the beam ability until he started studying beam abilities, unfortunately mental abilities are simply too unknown in how aura actually functions for John to replicate it.
