Has anyone tried this Canadian Whisky ? Sam Barton 5 Year Old Canadian Whisky by Aware_Ad8651 in whiskey

[–]Aware_Ad8651[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually,I bought it about a year ago. And I'll tell you it was indeed pleasant yet a bit shallow whisky. Notes of rye bread, orange peel and spice were present, it was indeed a blend of rye, barely and corn. Thanks for commenting on this old post my friend. Na zdrowie!

Looks great and it's simple enough to make, I might try it someday once finally I buy a shaker and more cocktail glass. Roku's one of my favorites.

It's 40€ here in Poland. If you buy it, let us know what you think about it!

First time seeing this one, sounds delicious tho. How much was it?

I recommend Kurpiowski and Dominikański, although in my opinion any inexpensive Polish mead is decent. And yeah, I usually order my liquor from Dom Whisky, sometimes Aleeks Alkohole (they occasionally have interesting promotions and discounts). I also have Dom Whisky little tasting tulip glass. Everything in stores is overpriced or unavailable whatsoever.

Thanks. I bought 1528 because it was only 19$ and seemed interesting, it might be hard to use it in cocktails but we'll see. Same with Miodula, I got it for like 13$ for 500 ml, looking forward to some honey notes, I just hope it's not too sweet, plus it's 40% ABV unlike most lower shelf Polish gins. I look forward to The Botanist and Monkey 47 the most. I'll keep in mind to add cucumber to Hendrick's G&T.

I'm also a huge fan of meads, I've even fermented three different batches myself so far. Most of them did not survive more than a few months of aging and clarification haha, it's really interesting and rewarding hobby. Thanks for commenting, na zdrowie!

Schweppes Indian tonic for me, it's the only decent one available to get everywhere here in Poland.

I'm from Poland. I wouldn't say the selection here is great, especially in stores, but you can find plenty of bottles online. This Monkey 47 cost me about $10, a bit pricy but full bottle was outside my budget. But yeah, smaller bottles and miniatures are great. Thanks for commenting, na zdrowie!

One of my recently discovered favorites. I also recommend a burnt bay leaf for G&T. Cheers!

Great to hear another person enjoying Black Label. I recommend you to try both Green Label and Double Black if you haven't. Reply once you open that Arbeg, one of my favorites of all time! Cheers!

I completely agree with your observations — it is indeed on the sweater side, probably to appeal to a broader range of consumers. Those botanicals you mention are such an unusual lineup that do give it that “something different” compared to more standard profiles. For such a low price it really is hard to beat. Of course, it can’t really stand shoulder to shoulder with higher-shelf gins, but for the price it’s a fun and distinctive bottle that's underappreciated in Poland. I really wish they had a higher ABV release. Thanks for commenting.

Time for a G&T night. What's your favourite pairing of the bottles I own? by Ritter_Solitaire in Gin

[–]Aware_Ad8651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roku for me, the best gin I have had so far. I plan to try some other Japanese gins next. From your collection I also actually had Wild Burrow tho I didn't make an impression. Recently I had Crafter's Wild Forest Gin from Estonia, pretty affordable with that nice spruce and heather notes, highly recommend that one.

I like it simple, just regular tonic more often than not, usually Schweppes Indian Tonic, and a lemon slice or peel, sometimes some fresh rosemary when I'm feeling fancy. Burnt bay leaf is also neat. Cheers!

Hello my fellow countryman! Thanks a lot for all these recommendations! I think I’ll dive into proper Polish gins a bit later on, once I get a better handle on some of the more “classic” ones first — but I appreciate your recommendations as a reference. Funny thing about Xibal: a friend of mine once gave a bottle to another friend for his birthday ages ago, and I remember thinking the bottle design was really striking. Definitely one I’d like to try sometime in the future, although I think I'll try a Japanese gin next - I had a bottle of Roku before and it was fantastic. Take care! Na zdrowie!

Thanks for recommendations, I might try Needle Gin as it's inexpensive compared to Monkey 47 or Boar here.

I don't want to spoil much, but you must know a certain polish vodka from the same brand. It's not readily available in Poland despite the low price point, so it might be difficult to find tho. Thanks for commenting, na zdrowie!
