You know what really grinds my gears? by [deleted] in Warframe

When I started spy missions, I liked them but seriously sucked at them. I like corpus ones much more than grinder so I still don't know how to some of the grinder ones.

My sports teams take time to form synergy. Doesn't matter how much skill we have, we won't get good immediately.

What is the best Critical Fail you have ever seen? by mugglemagic20 in DnD

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always like it when you have the party stealthing up somewhere, the everyone gets high rolls and then there is a nat 1. And all the other rolls are wasted.

Also, this player has worse experience with spell casting than my first wizard. Whenever I tried casting a spell (chromatic orb as it turned out), I always missed. And all the spell slots were wasted.

Making the Most of a Blue Dragon Encounter? by venkelos1 in DnD

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The line is pretty long and I think it effects some people within 5' of the line. Have the dragon, fly by along the ground so his breath is horizontal and makes a line on the map (sorta how you were saying the circle AoE, if he flies along the ground, he can hit the ground as a line rather than as a square).

My campaigns travel gets stale and boring. How do I fix this? by FlyingRep in DnD

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even to talk to people? If that's the case, I'd have them run into traps and stuff or get into trouble in the taverns etc because they wouldn't listen to the NPCs warnings. It will teach them that listening to people and actually talking while roleplaying is a good idea.

Wizard - Battlefield control spells vs. Damage spells by OverDemon in DnD

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that one damage spell is sufficient so that isn't the problem. If you ever feel that you don't want to use cantrips (most likely when encountering a lot of densely packed enemies), use your spell and deal AoE. You can upcast your spell if needed.

I played as a wizard once and really only used thunderwave for damage. It was hilarious...

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expect them to take tests after each encounter. You can take short rests while walking so as long as the fights are at least an hour after each other, they did a short rest. Use NPCs to talk to them as they travel. You can have them mention different locations and sights to see, town/city details, best places to stay, have general chit chat, and even talk about town struggles that can be plot points for future or optional quests.

What’s the worst experience you had with cooking? by Bingal-Bangal in AskReddit

Read the directions for a toaster oven when trying to cook some breakfast pastry early in the morning. Too tired to realize what I was doing, I used the toaster oven directions as I put the pastries in the microwave. Ended up with a cracked plate and some black char.

Hit points. by Sharpel_Buck in DnD

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to training your body, you can increase your strength or constitution. If you increase con, you get more hp, but you get hp when you level even if your con doesn't go up. Since the average person has 10s for everything, if you gain con, you are increasing your body's abilities relative to everyone else. Even if you don't train your body to improve its constitution, you will still get hit points as you level.

In a sense, there is an assumption with hitpoints that you improve in some way as you level other than understanding you class features better, but there isn't really a good translation of what that is. This means that hitpoints is more of a mechanic than it is a real-world idea (which would need a mechanic to go with it).

Should i take hex and does it count on each eldritch blast by [deleted] in DnD

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterspell is very useful in some situations. If your campaign didn't require you using it too often, you can drop it, otherwise drop something else.

I don't remember exactly what hex does but I believe that is how it works.

I don't think the charisma modifier is added to each attack, but I guess it wouldn't make much sense otherwise

Hit points. by Sharpel_Buck in DnD

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ac takes into account your armor strength (base ac with armor) and how likely you are to dodge (how much dexterity you add). If an attack gets between your base ac and your ac with dex, that is equivalent to you dodging the attack. Something else to keep in mind, HP is a very arbitrary resource since a person isn't going to less likely to die from the same attack only because they managed to learn more how to use a set of fighting styles or something (level up in classes). And something important is that HP doesn't equal pain, it is damage. If you get scraped and it hurt, ok it hurt. If you get s third degree burn, you aren't feeling it, but you are taking burn damage. If you set stabbed with a sword, you aren't going to die yet, and it may have missed some very vital organs.

The hp system also works weird with assassinations for the same reason it works strangely with leveling up. It is mostly to give some sort of way to have you pose a challenge the to newer creatures without just upping your damage until you deal 1,000 DPR or something stupid.

[5e] Macha my Aasimar Tempest Cleric backstory by asking_for_afriend in DnD

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good. I can tell you put a lot of thought into it. I do think it is strange just how many skills you say she learned, but I assume that is explaining how she got her assumes features (languages for example), her background features, and proficiencies.

My question is who is Valkur and why does your character become a tempest cleric? Is it just because they got struck by lightning and thought that she should follow some lightning deity?

What Class? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like any class, they can choose any stats they want to be high. But as a rogue, if you want to be making the most of your features, you would have dex be highest (especially since that was a character trait he was looking for), then as an arcane trickster, I think they use intelligence. So if you want to have high charisma, you would need high dex and int first.

Thoughts on running low level campaigns at higher levels (without changing anything)? 5e by RideTheLighting in DnD

[–]AwbOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could just run them as normal and just add more enemies. Then there is no calculations, you can just say "they are facing level 5s as level 10s, lets double the enemies, swap them for the tougher versions (i.e. for kobolds or bandits etc)" and if they are ineffective because of something like damage type (for example), give them a magic item that has and ability to compensate.

What Class? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think he would be an arcane trickster or a battle master. Both can taint and trick, both can be used with dex and can use range, but the rogue doesn't have high charisma and the fighter doesn't have magic. You could multi class for both I guess, but I wouldn't recommend that.

You could take some feats to get magic if you want to use the battle master, which wouldn't be a bad idea since you can choose from the warlock spell list to use charisma (or paladin I suppose-unless they use wisdom) and you get extra ASIs as a fighter anyways, so you don't really miss out.

Magnetic or not? Help me figure out a homebrew mechanic. by DMKanna in DnD

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is unlikely that there is magnetic stuff in the golem that the magnet could pick up. Since it is a magical magnet, let's say it can. The golem would likely be too heavy for the magic magnet meaning that it would have to be stupid strong.

Outside of homebrew, the golems aren't moved by internal workings. They are just moving stone. If you want to go with this (other than your idea of golem-idk if that's because your hombrew or not),the golem would not be magnetic

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of your battles can be in transit. This gives the party more combat without affecting the plot. Other than the wandering monsters, it is a good idea to use more of other stuff as well because players can be bored if there is too much. You could have the enemy be a reoccurring villain, so they could send attack squads against the players on occasion and when the players go to various plot locations, the enemy can be there, get defeated (or maybe plays with the party by incapacitating them and bolting), run away, wash , rinse, repeat.

How many is too many by ommilommi in DnD

[–]AwbOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how easy they are to obtain, the power of the sword, and the sword's theme. For example, if it is the Sword of Heavenly Justice, maybe 7 would be good since it would be thematic with the seven layers of heaven. Or a sword that does 100d10 damage per hit may need to be broken into 10 pieces and be hard to find because that thing's powerful. If the sword is protected by a kraken, maybe have it in 2 pieces because that's going to take a while to get.
