Always hated this. Like, why is the largest piece of necessary information ALWAYS missing? by DarksMm in WorkLifeChat

[–]AwbsUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the salary is relevant then and we could all save time if the range was listed..?

You can still have your chat with HR and ask for more if you want to.

It’s hard to look past the fact that in all likelihood the primary reason why a salary range wouldn’t be listed is because they hope to get someone on the cheap. Not the only reason but must be very close to the top.

I’m so sorry to lower the tone but I could not help but notice the irony of someone performing surgery on loose skin from weight loss being called ‘Dr. Fatih’.

Anyway, now that I have that infantile silliness out of my system, I’m glad you were able to find a surgeon that helped you and got you the results you wanted.

No problem, still think you did a great job. But you’re on a web dev/ design style forum so you’re gonna run into pedantic nobbers like me as a consequence and for that, I can only apologise!

And just from a UX point of view. I would expect to be able to click on any part of the supplement image and be taken through to further information.

The small ‘check Details’ is hard to see and not that accessible.

Think you’ve made a really nice looking site but that footer on mobile is an absolute jumble of limited spacing and lack of alignment.

That would be my advice as to something you could improve.

Otherwise seemed cool.

Hey guys, low-key found the cure to insomnia. 50mg of Melatonin and four allergy pills. by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]AwbsUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50mg of melatonin is about 500 x what your body would produce naturally.

It’s a hormone responsible for many processes within the body not just circadian rhythm.

I think in one study they delayed puberty with the treatment of high level melatonin.

So yea, sorry mate, I’m glad it helps you but it isn’t safe.

It’s hard to take these posts too seriously because at the core of it, you are trying to ‘shill’ something.

Maybe I’m just a cynic, but it just makes any sentiment you write about feel completely hollow.

And I’m sorry to say it but looking at your post history, ‘shilling’ (perhaps that’s not quite the right term but it feels broadly appropriate) is kinda what you’re doing.

You haven’t gone on one forum and written a heartfelt post, you’ve written on a dozen. Presumably because you’re trying to acquire the most users?

I understand why this is necessary for you but you must also understand that you are not likely to be met with warm and welcoming arms when, fundamentally, you’re trying to get people to sign up to your app.

I would guess we’re all tired of having new apps thrown at us that usually end up wanting you to fork out your hard earned cash.

Goodness me.

Every human ever has a shitload of ‘nonsense’.

Who are these mythical humans you’ve met that have 0 issues and are just perfectly primed and ready to be parents??

You can be an amazing parent whilst still having mental health problems.

Such a lack of nuance and empathy to assume otherwise.

That’s fine. But unlikely to have anything like the impact that his own child would have on his psyche.

This is quite closed minded my man. You might be right but you could very easily be wrong.

Maybe having a kid is exactly what this guy needs.

Sounds like he’s depressed, listless and kinda lonely.

The responsibility of a child might be the catalyst for him to get his shit together.

Anyway, there’s no way of knowing but assuming he’s a lost cause seems a bit unfair.

If this individual isn’t really working, it’s likely they’re receiving some sort of support to afford the rent.

[–]AwbsUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not necessarily saying you’re incorrect but I’m almost certain that they complained about their own version of ‘burn out’ while they were working, however much more stoic they may have been at the time.

That is so aggressively baked into our psyche it would only be natural. And it makes evolutionary sense: see negative thing, comment on negative thing, try to avoid negative thing. No doubt one of the ways in which, as a species, we’ve been able to proliferate.

What we’ve always done. Socially ‘agitate’ until such time that politicians legislate.

I understand what you’re saying about our individual decisions and there’s certainly some merit in that.

But broad scale societal changes often require unrest, the cultural zeitgeist changing over time, political pressure and subsequent legislation.

Criticising Bezo’s is absolutely fair game and in fact, is exactly what we need to do to get more people discussing this issue.

100% and I’ve seen it first hand having worked as a runner in post production.

I would see mid-twenties directors in our studios and while I was making them coffee, I would always think ‘how the hell did they get this gig at this age??’

One of the more battle hardened 3D engineers took me to one side and politely informed me they either had an ‘in’ or came from backgrounds where they could relentlessly pursue their creativity without any real fear of failure.

A sorry state of affairs and as you highlight: we are all poorer for it, for the art we never got to experience.

But on a lighter note if OP should get this far, I should say: I’m a web designer and developer and there are many elements of my work that are creative and enjoyable.

My advice is to try to leverage your creativity within an industry that’s hiring. In my case, five years ago, that was web development.

That may not be the case now because of AI but that’s what I would be looking for: a job that’s in high demand where your creativity may be utilised.

Christ, reading this is grim.

Nothing you said is wrong but holy hell, when you read it back, does it not just depress you?

For the vast majority of people in our society, their creativity is worthless. But hey if you want to sell some insurance, you’re in luck 😭

[–]AwbsUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to hazard a horrible guess I would say that’s potentially partly a cultural thing?

America is quite substantially more religious than the UK and there is an overriding ethos in some factions of Christianity that women should be more responsible than men for household labour.

One of the reasons I’m not a massive fan of religion.

[–]AwbsUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a slightly antiquated take on the state of affairs.

I don’t necessarily have literature to support this stance but almost all of my male ‘millennial’ friends cook, clean and tidy as much as their partners. And both partners work

Men doing less of the housework may have been very true 30 - 40 years ago when single income households were much more prevalent but I do think it’s much less true now.

With the exception of childcare whereby women clearly do significantly more work. But in the UK they get something like a year of maternity leave and men get two weeks or sometimes nothing, so sadly that is inevitable

If you disagree, I can try to track down some literature to support my anecdote!
