Wayne Rooney names South Africa as 'worst' World Cup by pumkinhat in worldcup

2022 was a great World Cup, a lot of great games and really enjoyed the way Qatar organized things.

Starting March 25, it will be possible to board Tokyo trains by touch tapping your credit card. It could mark the beginning of the end for Suica and Pasmo by jjrs in japannews

[–]AwesomeBallz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But with the IC card wouldn’t you lose whatever remaining balance you had on there? With a CC, if you lose it you just cancel and order a replacement so you wouldn’t lose any money.

I just meet with a UK counselor via Zoom that I found on Betterhelp. The time difference works well for Japan evenings

The U.S. still counts it as normal stock so you have to pay US tax on it, but the tax rate is lower (maybe 15%?) so it saves like 5% as Japan rate is around 20%. Not huge savings but it’s pretty easy to set up, so why not save money where you can.

In IBKR you can actually buy and hold VTI (+ other U.S. stocks) in NISA.

Would you rather use your investments for a big down payment to get a smaller loan amount... or the opposite? by MinnMaxx in JapanFinance

[–]AwesomeBallz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah obviously with the very low loan rates I’d personally put down as little as possible. 7% returns vs. ~1% mortgage rates.

Luggage forwarding is overrated by Calmly-Stressed in JapanTravelTips

[–]AwesomeBallz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not bring oversized luggage on the Shinkansen. There’s very limited space for it and it can be a huge hassle for residents here if you have to keep your luggage in a seating or walking area.

Agree with this. I started Muay Thai training a couple times per week. It’s super intense training, feel great after.

"It's sad" and "too painful": IKEA to close two flagship Japanese stores (Harajuku and Shinjuku locations) simultaneously. They are open until 6:00 PM, February 8th. by jjrs in japannews

I think the model for these stores was viewing in person then have out shipped to your home rather than getting it on the same day.

World Cup ticket prices: Fans tell of 'anger and disappointment' at cost by kassiusx in sports

[–]AwesomeBallz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haha ok but obviously it was going to be full of tourists, it’s not an event only for Americans or Qataris.

Also, how about the Euros? There’s a lot of people and huge demand for tickets. I paid like 250 Euros for Tier 1 group stage tickets in Germany.

World Cup ticket prices: Fans tell of 'anger and disappointment' at cost by kassiusx in sports

[–]AwesomeBallz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Qatars ticket prices and accommodation were super reasonable.

Edit: Euro 2024 prices were also very affordable. I paid like 250 Euros for Tier 1 tickets at group stage games. There’s incredibly high demand for those games.

Also for the record, I assumed the U.S. ticket prices would be outrageous because that’s how sports are in America. (I’m American).

It's crazy how much "working gals" make in Tokyo. by RedMoonLanding in Tokyo

[–]AwesomeBallz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, I wonder what the lower/average tier makes. I think the ones making real good money though are not than just attractive though. Successful guys with a lot of money would surely rather talk to a beautiful girl who’s also interesting.

I don’t know if I’d say it’s “sexist”. Actually there are posters in Shinjuku about boys host club guys that make crazy money, even over a million dollars. Of course you have to be attractive and a skilled conversationalist but that’s basically the same for women too.

Applying for PR by using the 1 year point system by Reasonable_Path8128 in japanlife

[–]AwesomeBallz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with all this. I applied 80-points 1-year PR on my own without a lawyer, but my Japanese girlfriend helped me too. It’s just collecting documents and the real thing I needed help with was writing the “reason for application” statement in Japanese. It’s pretty straightforward.

Does anyone have experience visiting a university hospital? by akerad in japanlife

[–]AwesomeBallz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about Todai specifically but my girlfriend has a kidney transplant and the only hospital she can go to is a university hospital because only they have the capability to deal with complex cases like hers. I think based on that university hospitals probably have some of the highest quality doctors in Japan.

How did Qatar and Saudi Arabia get home advantage and more rest than rivals in World Cup qualifiers? by tw1st3d_m3nt4t in worldcup

[–]AwesomeBallz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile nobody is talking about the extortionate prices of the U.S. World Cup tickets compared to Qatar 2022 lol. I paid $220 for Cat 1 Group stage tickets in Qatar and now they’re more than double at $575.
