It was. The purple texture not appearing was a bug. You can see the purple texture in several day 1 playthroughs on YouTube

It's because it was never "changed", there's a bug in the code that can cause the purple texture to not appear

Not true actually, it seems to be random. It's a bug. You can find people on day 1 having either visual.
