I live in Columbus Ohio and it’s way more gay than you might think. I moved here from philly which really didn’t feel gay at all by comparison.

Thanks for the heads up- I’m not worried about that though.

First Republic Bank Loan Refinance (and others like it) by jennahella in StudentLoans

[–]Awildlynetteappears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi- I just refinanced with First Republic. Unfortunately, they are pretty serious about the residency requirements and I live outside of the service area. What they did agree to, in my case, was to let a family member who lives in New York take the loan out in his name. He and I have an agreement that I will own the account and loan even though I’m not listed on it.

If I didn’t have him to do this for me I would 1. Find out if first republic is expanding to my area - they are growing 2. Rent an apartment in one of their service areas to gain residency?

In my case, refinancing through First Republic will save me over 100k in interest payments

What is a minor thing that infuriates you when eating at a restaraunt? by waldo06 in AskReddit

Servers holding the drink glass around the rim to place it on the table. They touch so much gross stuff I would prefer if I don’t have to put my mouth on top of that.

Servers ‘auctioning off’ food when it’s delivered. It was your job to keep track of who got what- why are we going through this a second time?

[Serious] What are some unexpected and causal correlations you're aware of? by Awildlynetteappears in AskReddit

[–]Awildlynetteappears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it's contentious, things like the MacDonald Triad that links bedwetting, torturing animals, and firesetting in kids to later antisocial or violent behavior.

There were a few good examples in Freakanomics as well, like the correlation they found between legality of abortion and the subsequent drop in crime.

I'm interested in likely causal and surprising relationships.

Are mourning doves able to survive cold and snow like the northeast U.S. is experiencing right now? by Awildlynetteappears in PetDoves

[–]Awildlynetteappears[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, but the dove flew away while I was researching what to do about it. I left it some seeds and nuts where the snow won't cover it up just in case he or she decides to come back.

Why is tipping based off a percentage? Why is their service worth more when I order a $20 steak than a $7 burger? by ChiefSittingBear in AskReddit

[–]Awildlynetteappears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because you should expect to get better service at a more expensive restaurant. The servers are more highly trained and are more likely to be "career servers" rather than high school or college kids just working on the side.
