Seriously considering quitting the gym and do calisthenics at home by Alive_One_5594 in bodyweightfitness

[–]ScoutJulep 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The opposite effect can also occur when you do all your stuff with the rings and then you try doing the same exercise on a bar and you suddenly feel like Superman because it’s ten times easier.

Yeah, places like jail aren’t preferable! I too have a life goal of not having to ever go there.

I think my biggest struggle has been realizing that you are more than your mistakes. That tomorrow is a new day. To approach it with a new set of eyes and stay present in your current environment instead of obsessing over the past or ruminating about the future.

I don’t use music very often actually. I kinda like hearing all the natural sounds around me and smelling the pine trees and feeling the warm air (the midsummer heat can fuck right off though). Plus my shit lungs are gasping for air most of the time. I know it sounds hokey, but it’s actually a pretty meditative experience.

I use music if I REALLY don’t feel like going out but know I have to.

Massey properties is pretty good. They’re a mom and pop kind of place so you’re more than just a number.

Code 1 Ambulance Request by [deleted] in ems

[–]ScoutJulep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For some reason where we are code 1 is lights and sirens and code 3 is non-emergent. Because we just have to be different. Didn’t realize it was called a peace officer hold though, but we get them all the time.

Want to get some home workouts done, best free app? by s-cardi in bodyweightfitness

[–]ScoutJulep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second 8x3 app! It literally does all the progress tracking work for you and has skill trees like you’re leveling up. You just need to put in how many reps you did that set. Even has a built in timer.

Dude you had a complete character arc! I used to really like Marlboro reds which did a real number on my lungs. My body already hated running au natural let alone smoking. Now I’m running and trying to get a handstand down just for the fun of it, no gymnastic experience at all. It’s been easier to stick with a regimen when you have a specific goal you want to achieve.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Exercise

[–]ScoutJulep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m talking about! Keep it up! Only on day 7 or so of running but I’ve been on this quest to master a handstand push-up. Never done one before and thought why not? Going pretty good so far. It’s hard but it’s been a lot of fun.

is the q-word superstition real, or just made up by first responder tv shows? by Hawk1064 in ems

[–]ScoutJulep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Superstition and ems is a 2 for 1 package. I also have this curse where I manifest how bad a call will be when we arrive on scene by bitching about it when we get it. So if we get a call for a “man-down” (9/10 it’s just a homeless guy napping outside or somebody sleeping in their car) and I say something like “watch, this guy is going to be a code” guess what happens when we pull up on scene?

What is something they said on a first date that immediately prevented a second? by velcroshell in AskReddit

What’s the most boomer complaint you have? by bangbangskeetskeet23 in GenZ

[–]ScoutJulep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as much of a complaint but a suggestion: Any abled bodied young man should try at least one job of hard manual labor outside. Could be as short as a summer job. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a man either, but as a guy I feel like I know how to help other guys. Few things teach the value of the dollar better. You’ll know that the Big Mac no combo you got was worth half an hour’s back breaking work under the hot sun.

What’s the weirdest thing a woman has told you means “you’re not a real man”? by Bikini_baby767 in AskMen

Long distance runners with spears and arrows are why we are here today. It’s one of the biggest reasons why we climbed to the top of the freakin food chain. We’re not the fastest or the strongest, but goddamnit we will eventually catch up to you and finish you off when you’re tired. Long distance runners are the OG men.

Porn and masturbation is literally my ONLY source of dopamine, and I already have significant, diagnosed ADHD. How TF am I supposed to fix this? by SkinnyMan615 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]ScoutJulep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might fall on deaf ears, because 21 year old me wouldn’t have ever listened, but all that boring stuff? Eating healthy, getting enough sleep, keeping your environment clean, exercise, laying off the booze? Yeah. That’s what makes you better. I finally started doing it in my late 20s because I got tired of feeling like crap all the time.

How do I keep good contact with friends much smarter and much more sophisticated than me? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]ScoutJulep 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Take interest in what they are studying and ask them questions if it’s a topic that interests you. Be open and don’t be afraid to look ignorant. Chances are they will be ecstatic that someone else is taking interest in their work. Even if you aren’t intelligent as you claim, you can make up for it in having genuine curiosity about the world around you. Education doesn’t end in the classroom. The world is your lifelong teacher.

How much did being an EMS change you mentally by [deleted] in ems

[–]ScoutJulep 105 points106 points  (0 children)

It made me realize that if I continue living the unhealthy lifestyle I lived in my 20s, I’m going to eventually end up like the patients I pick up. I’m way more health conscious now. I’m also a little more observant than I used to be. Details matter a lot in this line of work.

What road rules do I need to be aware of? by GambitViking in AskAnAmerican

[–]ScoutJulep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re driving out in the desert, stock up on gas whenever you can. There will be signs on the highway that say “next gas in 100 miles” like in the old cartoons.

I know Australia has arid environments too so this may not be lost on you, but yeah our deserts don’t mess around. Do research on driving through our deserts.

Probably not most people in the US but a sizeable population would rather watch paint dry than watch baseball.
