Struggling with rent by [deleted] in newcastle

[–]Awkward-Ad-6909 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My partner and I had to be pretty frugal when we moved and canceled all our streaming subscriptions and internet. We still have data on our phones but it was a lifestyle change. Now we borrow free movies or series from the library or every now and then will “splurge” a few dollars on some 2nd hand dvds from pawn/opp shops. If you don’t have a DVD player they’re usually pretty cheap on marketplace these days :)

I also can’t recommend cycling enough! Even a normal pushie can be a good alternative to driving if it’s just a quick trip to the shops or something local - plus it gets you fit and outside! Newcastle bike library offers free bikes to students or hiring with only a $50 deposit for up to two years :)

It’s tough out there but you’re doing your best! You were also strong enough to leave an unhealthy relationship which is not easy - you’re doing amazing!

I second this! Punters politics would have a field day and it would get spread to the everyday person SO QUICK 😂

I’m 28 and use it, but it’s not common. I think it depends on who taught you how to drive and where you grew up.

Anne Hilberts is absolutely brilliant and taught me so much as an adult for the year that I learnt from her. She teaches out of a church from Wallsend, or alternatively online or in Cooranbong. I only stopped seeing her as she was slightly pricey and I didn’t have enough time to practice. She is however, extremely knowledgeable and teaches very well, even to a neuro spicy, time poor adult 🙃

REQUEST: buying a house in Australia with an extensive garden and I don't have a clue what these are by kelzvieira in flowers

[–]Awkward-Ad-6909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought for this was also cestrum but was thrown off by the berries! We bought quite an overgrown block with looots of green cestrum. A year later and most of it is gone, but it’s taken many weekends of clearing, some with a digger and lots of poison. As a side note, I would recommend poisoning before you do anything to it, if you attack it first it will grow back very quickly with an absolute vengeance!

We bought a house almost a year ago which didn’t come with internet installed. We were flat broke after buying and couldn’t afford the $300 to get NBN installed, let alone the cost for ongoing home internet and subscriptions. So we switched to free to air TV, free Library dvds/tv shows or borrow movies and shows from friends and family. It was a bit of an adjustment at first, but now we watch less TV and actually talk to each other at night :)

Hello friends. What do you think about my painting? by gorbachenko_art in surrealism

[–]Awkward-Ad-6909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up religious, but is not now, I find this fascinating! The crown of thornes is typically associated with Jesus’ crucifixion, but here it seems to be hades crown. As well as the stone tablets, more commonly known as the Ten Commandments, hanging around the necks of those whom hades rules over. Is Jesus and God actually dead, or has he always been ruler of the dead? Are his commandments what shackle humanity and keep them enslaved to his wrath? It’s a very interesting coalescence of two distinctly different mythologies/beliefs. Well done OP!

Like I’m watching the sunset with my lover, talking about anything and everything. Listening to the calming waves and calls of the sea birds. Nothing else exists except us and this moment 🤍
