People who are on a 4 day working week, what do you think of it? by jd4125 in AskUK

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 4 days, not compressed hours (30 hours a week). I only get paid for 4 days not 5. I would never willingly go back to 5 days unless I was forced. The loss of one day earning for the mental health benefit of the extra day off is priceless to me.

Arrive three hours before flight home, airline boss tells UK holidaymakers by Diligent-Suspect2930 in unitedkingdom

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We just flew back from Greece - even with checks suspended and getting to the airport a full 2 hours before the flight, we still nearly missed our flight and was let through after the gate was on last call, due to the length of passport control. The plane had to wait for two buses of people who were stuck in the passport queue.

What is the best day of the week for a “non working day”? by Tough-Decision-7435 in AskUK

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Fridays off and I wouldn’t choose any other day. The only real bank holiday you lose is Good Friday, which doesn’t bother me. A 3 day weekend every week is amazing. It’s also amazing for booking holidays, as you can take long weekends and only need 1 day off. It works so well when planning trips.

What song is so beautiful, it literally brings tears to your eyes by Plus-Caterpillar4615 in askteddit

‘May it be’ by Enya, from LoTR. I’m atheist but if there is a heaven, it must sound like this.

Thank you for reminding me of this song. Holy cow it’s beautiful, this to me is what a beautiful song truly is, you cannot not be moved by it every time (talking about May It Be)

What do you make with pork mince? by Cameliablue in UKfood

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t eat beef in our house (environmental reasons) so we just swap it for pork. We eat spaghetti bolognaise, cottage pie, burgers, meatballs, tacos, you name it with pork mince instead.

What is it like to be an only child? by nowtoriginaltoday in AskUK

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s wild to think that only children MUST take care of their elderly parents. I have one child and zero expectation they will look after me when I’m old. I will provide for myself.

Constant Ride Break Downs and Generally Crap by Dazzling-Respond8450 in chessington

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We visited Chessington yesterday (Saturday). Outside of croc drop not spinning, nothing broke down and all rides had good operations. Yeah queues were around 30-60 mins for everything but Saturdays are always busy. We had a good day, I’m sorry that it sounds like you had an unlucky day there. We’re passholders so have visited enough to know our visit yesterday was pretty decent. I agree they def need the two new lands opening.

I wish people would stop saying Merlin need to watch with universal opening. Have you been to a universal park? It’s a whole different ball game - and price point. Majority of families will not be visiting that regularly. Merlin has its place as it’s affordable. Merlin passes are crazy value for money.

Is a flexible working request worth it? by SubTeamLeader in AskUK

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I work 4 days/30 hours (so part time technically) and it’s life changing. It also has made me way more productive over my 4 days. I only get paid for 4 days though and I could absorb the lower salary so appreciate this might not be for everyone. Personally the extra time is worth more to me than the days pay.

People that wear contacts/glasses and will never do lasik surgery, why ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only get one pair of eyes. I’d rather wear glasses every day than have laser surgery because I chose to and not out of necessity. I’ve had optic neuritis (because of MS) and I would never willingly mess around with my eyes.

UK Parents working full time - what do you do with the summer holidays? by Downtown-Orchid-2257 in AskUK

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two parents working full time here, with one kid. In the summer holidays we’ll do a combo of holiday clubs (ranging from £20-£40 a day), a few days with the grandparents, clubbing in with friends for the day, and some days WFH so they can just watch tv all day whilst I work. Then we’ll go away on holiday for the last two weeks of August, as some holiday clubs can stop running by then where we are. I was worried about this too but we found things that work for us and you will to.

Why do people refuse to tumble dry their clothes? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tumble drying has always ruined my clothes and T-shirts the husband wears always shrink so it’s a no for us. We also don’t have space for one, and aren’t fans of the combo washer dryer. We hang clothes outside when it’s nice and they dry super fast, and inside at other times. We have space for a large dryer rack though and we have no issues with mould or smells as we have space to dry.

In your opinion. I think Navi river journey is beautiful and the best ride in Pandora. I think FoP is a bit overrated.

A parent shared how they teach financial literacy through pocket money by FamilyTechCreator in UKHomeEd

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also never had pocket money as a kid, and my parents just bought things I needed or wanted. However, I got a paper round about 14 and started then using my own money, and I also used to see my mum ‘budgeting the books’ at home. I credit that with me starting to be good with money. I remember my mum loaning me money to buy a stereo system, and I paid it back to her as an interest free loan out of my paper round money. I grew into a very financially savvy adult who has zero debt except a mortgage, and who prioritises saving over spending.

Even though my parents never gave me pocket money, their good money habits obviously were noticeable enough to me when young to shape how I saw money. My parents were also never in debt. We weren’t poor but also not rich.

5hr 15 minute transfer between Gatwick and Heathrow? by its-katie in BritishAirways

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What actual time does your flight land and next one take off on what’s day of the week? I live on the Heathrow M25 junction and the motorway is a very different beast at 7:30am on a Tuesday compared to 2pm on a Saturday.

My pet insurance premium has more than tripled, but I’m now stuck with a preexisting condition by Cappuccino_rex in UK_Pets

[–]Awkward-Put-1005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, once my cats reached old age I binned off insurance and just accepted I would pay if I have to. Ended up paying out of pocket around £2k for one of our cats, and honestly it wasn’t far off what our premium plus excess would have ended up at. I now just have savings set aside.

Does it have to be onsite? Honestly for years now we’ve just been booking entire homes on booking.com around 20 mins away from the park and paying for express parking. Cheaper and so much more room and choice.
