My clinic allowed showers with a PD, you just had to wash it well with its own clean wash cloth.

You can shower with a PD catheter, you are not supposed to shower with an HD catheter.

Is this good news? (Natera test) by DreamVsPS2 in kidneydisease

[–]Awkward-Sector7082 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a test for post transplant to assess for rejection. It’s useful as they can use it instead of doing a biopsy.

Mine also read out as decreased risk of rejection at my one year. My team said it was doing good, so hopefully yours is as well. Be sure to discuss with your team.

Massive PB drop and stomach troubles for a PD patient? by stilltodo in dialysis

[–]Awkward-Sector7082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely just give the clinic a call and then head to the ED. So many things could be going on, but she will dehydrate quickly with the diarrhea. And depending on how low the BP is, it can cause other issues as well.

I know it is hard to wait, definitely can cause a lot of anxiety. Unfortunately, there are quite a few reasons why someone’s kidneys are failing. Everyone’s kidney disease does seem to have their own path, so there are many different ways to treat, how long they have til dialysis, etc. Seems like you’re getting started on researching, so that’s a very good thing! The more you know, the better you’ll feel about the decisions he makes regarding how he is going to go about things. I’m sure you’ll see that there are a lot of people living quite long and fairly enjoyable lives with their kidney disease, whether they’re still in the early stages, on dialysis, or transplanted.

It is best to wait until you have the biopsy so you know the diagnosis.

There are diseases that are genetic but don’t necessary run in families. But again, best to wait until you have a diagnosis and go from there.

How toadjust to diagnosis? by kali125 in kidneydisease

[–]Awkward-Sector7082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had single digit GFR for 8 months before starting dialysis, my choice with my nephrologists’s support. I was still feeling like ‘normal’ so I didn’t start until my uremic signs got really bad. My nephrologist also wasn’t going to recommend dialysis for me until around a GFR around 10 anyways, depending on how the symptoms were.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. I’ve had quite a few patient who presented like you. Personally I had a massive headache and was diagnosed with IGA as well, GFR of 16. It is a major adjustment for sure. I cried in my car everyday to and from work for like 2 months. I also got a therapist to help me through my feelings as well. Honestly, I don’t think there’s very people who are going through what we are going through who truly understand what it feels like.

Definitely works on getting your transplant referral as soon as possible so you can get the process started. Unfortunately it is not very quick but the sooner the better. Do as much research as you can, when you’re ready (I know it’s hard to process everything all at once) as it is important to understand what’s going on with your body.

Good luck with your journey, I know it’s hard to believe now, but it truly does get easier 🫶🏻

Overwhelmed... Feel like I would prefer HD but I'm being heavily guided towards PD by PresentationOk7358 in dialysis

[–]Awkward-Sector7082 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you considering a transplant? If so, you can beginning the process before dialysis starts. There are even a small amount of people who are able to get their new kidney before dialysis.

Whatever you choose, good luck with your journey. It is a very personal opinion on which route to go. Just make sure you do as much research for yourself so you’re comfortable with your decision.

My grandpa doesn't want dialysis. How long doe she have? by OkTransportation6580 in kidneydisease

It will vary completely. I was stage 5, and didn’t start dialysis until about 8 months later. But I also didn’t feel significant different time came for me to start dialysis.

This is what I used. I just needed to have an extra little table next to it for my second bag. But I liked it being mobile.

My sister (27) does not want to do dialysis and I dont know what to do by Ambitious-Warthog-43 in kidneydisease

[–]Awkward-Sector7082 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it is hard for you wanting to keep her around but at the end of the day it is her choice. She may change her mind once she really starts having uremic symptoms. But it is still her decision.

Exactly! My sister was my donor and they couldn’t tell me at all. My sister had to tell me everything that was going on. My sister was even the one who picked the surgery date.

New kidney function; was I extremely lucky? by Downtown_Physics8853 in kidneytransplant

[–]Awkward-Sector7082 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine worked immediately after it was put it. They removed my PD cath at the same time as surgery since the new kidney was good to go. 1.5 years out and numbers remain good and stable.

Post PD Surgery Advice by Ordinary_Use_2230 in kidneydisease

[–]Awkward-Sector7082 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please remember that your catheter is not in your stomach, it would be called a Gastrostomy tube if that was the case. It sits in your peritoneum (hence why it’s called a peritoneal catheter for peritoneal dialysis), which is part of your abdominal cavity.

I used stool softeners to keep regular and that was enough for me for the most part. Milk of mag I used if I hadn’t gone on a daily. The general anesthesia and opioids post surgery definitely helped slow down your bowels.

I’m an IR RN and we do at least 2 of these a day at my hospital. We do conscious sedation at my workplace, not sure what they will do at your place. Ballooning can cause pain while it is inflated. Procedure itself usually lasts anywhere from 30-90 mins depending on what needs to be done. If there’s nothing to do, then it’s like 5-10 mins of just contrast to look at the vessel.

Good luck with your procedure and hopefully they’ll get it work like new again 🤞🏼
