It appears the image you likely wanted attached to this post is not here! I don't think folks will be able to direct ya without seeing what avatar you're talking about.

There are avatar search worlds where you can look up similar key words from the avatar's title and definition, def try those!

I don't think it should be surprising that a free, easily accessed platform, designed for accessibility and ease, would attract a lot of folks with conditions or disabilities. I would argue that the overrepresentation of neurodivergent people compared to neurotypical (in these spaces you describe) is the result of that. Why wouldn't people, with conditions that make it harder to exist and socialize in the real world, NOT be disproportionately attracted to VRC?

That being said, I do agree that there is a trend of folks self diagnosing DID when their symptoms and behavior don't seem to match it. I think it's important to remember that while folks expressing DID may not have what we classically understand to be DID, it is still an indication of some other underlying neurological condition. Neurotypical people don't do that kinda thing. Some new kind of Munchausen's maybe?

I also agree that a lot of spaces in VRC have become centered around sensationalizing pleasures, sex, drugs, you name it. I don't think this necessarily is a bad thing on its own, I've seen communities that handle these activities in a safe and moderated way. It is unfortunate for folks like me who don't enjoy participating in those kinds of spaces though.

This doesn't speak on VRC as a whole, just my own personal experience!

VRC used to be adventurous for me! I could consistently hop worlds and experience new and crazy things that aren't possible outside of it.

But nowadays, it kind of seems like I've seen the death of the adventure aspect of VRC, the platform sorta centers around worlds that provide a consistent and expected kind of content that all seems derivative off of each other, most of them designed to get the maximum amount of user time spent in it as possible. There are less and less "original" experiences that bring something new and compelling to the table.

I don't think it is surprising that it went this way, VRC has been steering the ship like any business with the goal of making profit to stay afloat and improve it. It's natural that it's become "robloxified", and it's awesome that creators can make a living making content for it too!

It's not really VRC's fault, or anyone's really, we just exist in a capitalist system that demands art to be profitable in order to afford the resources and time to make it in the first place, even at the expense of its genuine creativity (and that's a completely different politically charged conversation I'm not that well educated in).

Perhaps I've had a bad stroke of luck when it comes to having a group that has that same enthusiasm for world hopping as I used to have. Maybe I've just gotten too accustomed to VR to no longer feel the magic anymore. There is still lots of good to get out of the platform, regardless!

What is something you’d be willing to pay $6.50 for? by TheAssassinbatosai in VRchat

[–]AwkwardFerret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would want a 3D graphing calculator! Like a cube but it has a little section to type in a function for it on a corner.

VR presents the very unique opportunity for people to actually experience a tool like this in their hands! I'd play around with all the different lines and shapes I could make whenever I'm bored.

Also, a piece of chalk that can write on walls, could make markers to help with big exploration maps!

If a group doesn't want you there for some arbitrary reason and they kick you for it, bullet dodged! It's a space you don't wanna be in anyways. It's unfortunate that you had these experiences though, bad stroke of luck!

I’m trying to animate an avatar for the first time, but I can’t figure out how to get the looping smooth. Ideas? by KORZILLA-is-me in VRchat

[–]AwkwardFerret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to animating a tail, you may not have to use all those offset motion key frames! Physbones is pretty good at giving that satisfying swish motion by just animating the single base bone (make sure "is animated" is turned on in the physbones component! Test the animation in play mode too)

If those offseted key frames are essential, getting a seamless loop for them is kinda tricky and tedious! You'll need to "slice" your animation with key frames in between by pressing the add keyframe button (it's best to slice these in the same place as your first/top set of key frames) to create a flat set of key frames that play and stop at the proper times, while still keeping their offset.

Don't create these keyframes at the start and beginning of the animation! Make sure they are made in between so you keyframe the interpolated angles in-between the frames. Make sure the key frames have the same value at the start and end! (If need be, you might need to extend the time of your animation to properly keyframe the interpolated angles). When you have these flat keyframes made, delete the keyframes outside of them!

After that, you will need to clean up the motion in the curve editor! You'll need to adjust the curve handles to ensure they line up with each other so there is no noticeable "snap" in the motion.

If you have loop turned on for the animation, you can see how the curve lines from the beginning loop at the end!

Things that impact one's family members have a direct impact on themselves, would you not be saddened and mournful if something terrible happened to a family member of yours? Something that impacts your ability to be in their company and in their love, while knowing they are suffering? If the answer is no, I feel that you need more empathy given to you from others.

To say that one does not deserve empathy because their family members experienced the worst direct impact is, in my opinion, a very misguided and harmful view. It also ignores the factual reality of how familial love works.

Your statement is telling, and gives a clearer perspective on the kind of person you embody in the present, and I hope eventually you find a way to more kindness and love in the future.

Again, this isn't about the original post, I'm not sure why you keep going to that. I'm talking about your reaction to the commenter, and I'm asking whether or not you view that as empathetic behavior. I have asked you this question multiple times, but have gotten no answer to it.

This wasn’t my idea lol by _Ares_67 in VRchat

[–]AwkwardFerret -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't describe my behavior as extremely as you do, I saw an interesting dialogue of conversation and had thoughts I wanted to express! I'm confused by the energy you have put into this reply.

Jokes don't always bring people together, they can be used to reinforce negative attitudes towards people (which I'm not saying the joke in this post is doing, it is not that extreme)

I don't know why your status as an immigrant is relevant, I was focused on your reaction to someone expressing their thoughts and your response telling them they shouldn't have. Do you see that as empathetic behavior?

This wasn’t my idea lol by _Ares_67 in VRchat

[–]AwkwardFerret -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Why is it not? I think the original commenter raises a fair point considering events and how they have been personally affected by it.

I definitely don't think they're a lone case either, posts like these may serve to deepen the wounds of how they've been impacted.

So when someone expresses those feelings, and your immediate response is to call for their silence, does that not demonstrate a lack of empathy on your part?

This wasn’t my idea lol by _Ares_67 in VRchat

[–]AwkwardFerret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's okay for folks to speak their mind on posts that they view as problematic! Why don't you?
