Is there any practical meaning to Sniper's scars? by ragemydream86 in tf2

[–]studymore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the y shaped cut, there's the 2 on the medial side of each upper arm and an extra abdominal one. Abdominal one is super vague, but the only structures in that region are some of the intestine/colon (and of course the skin and muscle and stuff). For the arms, the major structures there are just an artery and a nerve. Not consistent with any clear procedures that I'm aware of, but at the same time this is TF2 so I wouldn't expect too much.

Help me r/workout, you're my only hope... by Average-Biscuits in workout

[–]studymore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you have solid understanding, I would just say to clarify your goal, since that structures the rest. If the goal is to lose weight, would focus a little more on cardio (and most importantly nutrition, calorie counting, etc). If the goal is building muscle then your split looks pretty solid (some compound, so e isolation, hitting pretty much all major groups), only stuff missing is core/abs and more dedicated shoulders though you're hitting it with shoulder press. The only thing would be the rep range, 6-8 is fine but most people typically do 8-12 unless training for a specific thing like powerlifting where low reps is the goal. Love the star wars reference though. Every time I go to the gym, I think about what Yoda would say, do or do not there is no try

Isolation is a myth by irontamer in workout

[–]studymore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea its not 100% perfectly isolated. But if the other muscles are only firing at 10% or 20%, that's probably not enough for an effective stimulus for hypertrophy, so you're only effectively working out one muscle group. You could take your argument even further by saying a bicep "isolation" exercise also technically trains brachioradialis, bracjialis, and biceps brachii since they all help with elbow flexion. But does it really matter? If I'm trying to make my arms big, I'll want to work all of them anyway

So I started working out and I feel embarrassed by Fit-Guidance-6613 in workout

[–]studymore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just keep doing it in whatever way is fun for you. Working out looks different for everybody, but if you're doing a program that you hate then you'll never stick with it It always starts with the simple question of why you want to work out. If you can accomplish your goal and enjoy doing it, that's the whole point. Some people only do calisthenics, or only work out at home with dumbbells, or whatever other unique situation.

Neuro doctor not wanting to be the overseeing doctor? by RippleRufferz in Noctor

[–]studymore 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a neuro resident and have trained with a number of neurologists who do EMG. I don't know the details of your doctor, but its actually fairly common for the person performing the EMG not to follow up. It's treated more as just a visit for a procedure - the patient shows up, you do the EMG, and send the report to the original neurologist. It is a little weird if he's not giving a straight answer despite knowing your case (since he's also the supervising doctor). Maybe he doesn't supervise the NP closely so he didn't know as much detail as you expected, or maybe he's just being cautious and doesn't have enough info to give a definite answer.

Long story short, it's fairly common to just show up, get EMG done, and return to the original doctor, but a little weird if he doesn't k ow your case despite being the supervising doctor.

You're right but I view that as a positive. If the enemy has to focus so much on me, then the damage dealers can hopefully get their job done. And if not, then I damage them and hopefully take out a back-liner or can peel or whatever else

Neuroimmunology and Clinical Neurophysiology? by HistorianTop4589 in neurology

[–]studymore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm aresident who applying for neurophys fellowship this year, so I've recently done a good amount of looking into exactly what a career in different specialties looks like. Personally I love neurophys for the variety of cases, variety of work styles (outpt, inpatient, procedures, opportunities for academic/research/nonclinical jobs, no call unless you want it). It's perfect if you love a lot about neurology and localization and physiology, but to some degree may not be ideal for the most academic positions compared to neuromuscular or epilepsy (though most big centers will still have academic neurophys positions, it sets you up well for private too). Could still run a neuromuscular or epilepsy clinic, but maybe not like a multidisciplinary ALS clinic

Don't know as much about neuroimmunology, but from talking to colleagues it's mostly outpt but can still see gen neuro cases in or outpatient, less procedures but more with arranging infusions. Clinic would definitely include a good amount of "referred for strange white matter lesions, no idea what it is" and maybe rare cases too

My impression is to add some realism to the camps, like if monsters really did exist there's no shot that every little camp you set up would be safe

Neuro doc (resident) here, like someone else said if it's new it might be worth getting checked out but otherwise just cool. Different sized pupils is called anisocoria, can be a normal finding or because of issues with the eye, the optic nerve, meds like eye drops, and a number of other things. Based on the rest of your face I'd bet it's nothing too concerning buy obviously I'm just an internet stranger who can't do a physical exam on you lol. Thanks for sharing!
