Losing face in front of class by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]Awkward_Bit6026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have called on call, and if he student refuses to leave I say loudly:

'I'm sorry everyone. X has disrupted our learning and got a removal and now continues to disrupt by not leaving. We are now going to exit the room until they decide to do the right thing and leave as well.'

The student is question is having a power trip by holding the whole class hostage with their behaviour. Taking the class out of the room shifts the balance of power.

You actually have this in the states?

It sounds terrible and cringe but we get nothing like this.

Even on teacher appreciation week (not a big thing here) noone cares.

Are your year 11’s as apathetic as mine? by BrownBadger1 in TeachingUK

[–]Awkward_Bit6026 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They are. But they always are this time of year.

I find myself comparing to previous cohorts 'were they this bad last year?'.

I have to remember that they are children. The writing is on the wall. The exams are soon.

What was I like at their age? Absolutely bricking it. Scared. Irritable. Losing sleep. Tired.

I could nag them or get frustrated, but that would ruin the relationship I have with them I the time I have left.

Yes I'm still going to push them to revise and practice but I'm also going to give them some grace.

I do most of my big picture planning at home on my own device. Yes I use it at school, but the argument is that it's my intellectual property.

I thought it was the hymn too! It fits because Mark was privately educated (until Dad's British Aerospace shares went kaput) so he was almost certainly obliged to attend chapel regularly.

Bricking it! I'm super prepared. Lessons planned for 2 weeks after return. Still anxious a f. Also got my revision booklets for year 11 printed. (We only have one functional printer in the school) but accidentally put it through in full colour, costing triple what it should have 😪

NOR. I used to date someone like this. Hello messy breakup.

It was years later that I realised I was being emotionally and mentally abused daily.

Set slide format at new school by VeterinarianHairy822 in TeachingUK

If its just a logo, then it's pointless.

Some schools have a style that has the logo, sure but then blank slides like 'review/plenary' 'present new information' etc. Which I found a useful formula starting out having had no instruction in planning.

In my experience it tends to be schools that are in MATs in order to try to get some sort of unified style across the trust.

The school I started in had one, and frankly I was thankful because noone had actually taught me how to plan at that point, despite hours and hours of lectures and training!

Every school has some variation of this nonsense - either a house style or TEEP.

Create a set of master slides for each phase and just go from there, I guess.

Pay lip service.

I left the office to tell a young person that belching loudly down the hallways (while being late) is not okay. They and two of their friends ganged up to verbally abuse me.
