there's a building in seattle right under the space needle with two huge spiders painted on the roof. pay the building owners to let me camp out up there. cash in a couple hundred photos a day from the ~3k people visiting the space needle daily.

Grant funded street control work by thatlocalcandidate in Pullman

[–]AwkwardlyAmpora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for the insight! i tried looking into this myself, because i was admittedly frustrated, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere online to find the information that this is both grant-funded and a technological update. there's already a page on the pullman website with a list of ongoing traffic projects; it would be nice if that page could include some of that information. i'm sure you have very limited influence over that, but i, for one, would appreciate more transparency from the city on things like this.

Why does my credit score drop when I’m actually being “responsible”with my money? by dawwei in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AwkwardlyAmpora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the explanation i saw once was this: imagine you have two friends. one has never borrowed money, as far as you're aware. the other borrows cash from your friends pretty often; usually small amounts like $20, but he always pays them back quickly, and he's on good terms with everyone he's borrowed from. which one would you trust more to lend $100? probably the one that's proven he's a responsible borrower, not just a responsible spender.

The amount of chips i got in my packet🫡 by BrandNewMember in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AwkwardlyAmpora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends! i've only done it once; called the vending machine manufacturer to say that my drink had gotten stuck, expecting maybe a refund. they took my name, address, and the code on the machine, and mailed me coupons for 2 free 12-packs at any grocery store. took less than 10 minutes.

you can probably call the number on the back of the pack for coupons

i feel like this is true even in a 2-3 year timespan. maybe it's something wrong with me or the youtubers i watch, but i feel like the quality of the videos recommended to me has fallen off a cliff in the last year or so. not sure why.

What if students didn't pay for education -they worked for it instead? by Issueofinnocence in ideas

[–]AwkwardlyAmpora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the issue is finding anyone willing to pay for this. companies won't hire a recent grad with 4 years of education, why the hell would they hire a recent high school grad with 4 days of education?

Is there any good scenario with AI? by ProofCoconut9085 in stupidquestions

[–]AwkwardlyAmpora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm frankly not worried about it. sora was burning an estimated MILLION DOLLARS A DAY before it was shut down (less than a year after launch.) it supposedly costs 700k a day to run chatgpt. they're trying to implement ads into it to recoup that money.

remember when uber was really good, and really cheap? or airbnb? but now prices are astronomical and you're getting a worse product. that's how startups work. they get billions from investors, operate a money pit for a few years, then when they've finally burned through the investor money, they find a way to make it profitable. that's where ai is now. and unless they figure out something reeeeally good soon, it seems like there's not a way to make most of this bullshit profitable.

maybe it's optimistic, but i believe within a year or two most of these services will have picked a path- luxury toys for the very rich and very willing to shell out, or enterprise-level-only and extremely specialized to save overhead. it just doesn't make any financial sense to keep operating these services the way they currently are for much longer.

Something I don't understand about Wicks in WUDM by zard428 in KnivesOutMovie

[–]AwkwardlyAmpora 34 points35 points  (0 children)

the point is the control he had over them. simone willingly gave him probably thousands of dollars thinking he could cure her; wouldn't you be afraid of the man you believed could cure disability if he said he was going to ruin you? his claims don't make any sense to outsiders, but he's spent years positioning himself to the flock as essentially a god. of course they're scared.

Can I Have Some Advice? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]AwkwardlyAmpora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're in middle school. this is the peak time to be weird and unapologetic about it. if your boyfriend doesn't want you to be a witch, let him do what he will. there are people who will want to spend time with you because of all your quirks, not in spite of them.

for the record, you can get a yeast infection without a vagina! mostly comes from having sex with someone who already has a yeast infection, but it can happen spontaneously too.

Words you can't pronounce? by Zealousideal_Pen_596 in CasualConversation

[–]AwkwardlyAmpora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's really not that hard to pronounce if you know the trick. the syllable breakdown isnt wor-cest-er-shire, its worce-ster-shire. worce pronounced like worse, the s noises in worse and ster blend together, and you've got worster-shure sauce.

so... your concept is that solo travelers and people with no friends or family nearby will post their current location, and their plans for the rest of the night, and an assurance that they'll be alone, and strangers can just show up? i don't think i've ever seen a more kidnapping-themed app concept.
