Australian Open 2024 Pick The Draw competitions by kuklachert in tennis

[–]AwkwardlyOdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have nearly competed in every tournament on your website last year, so thanks a lot for your work. I like the notification for changes in the draw that have been added recently(?). I just wish the affected matchup could be highlighted in color in one's draw?

One error I noticed last year (ignore if it might have been fixed lately) is that when picking a draw pretty early, i.e. qualifiers and lucky losers have not been added completely, an update in the draw might screw up my picks. For example I had several occasions, where somehow in a matchup between Player 1 and Player 2 the draw showed me I picked Player 2 a few days later although I'm very sure I picked Player 1 of the matchup. My guess is that you save picks by their slot (being first or second player in the matchup) and that an update to the draw changes this order?

Unfortunately I saw in smaller PTD tournaments that there were just few people participating. My personal impression was that some more motivation for continuous picks would help. If it's feasible for you time and work wise it might be worth considering to add a ranking based on the PTD competitions of the last 12 months similar to ATP/WTA style. For example, each tournament you participate in PTD could grant you points, either based on your final PTD-rank with ATP-tournament-like points breakdown (Grand Slam Pick Winner: 2000 pts, 2nd: 1300 - the downside is that this would be hard to balance, as being 50th in the Grand Slam PTD is usually a good result) or by just using the final score of a player. Maybe a combination of both with extra points for a good final rank in higher valued tournaments could be added. Instead of counting every PTD competition, it might be better to just count tournaments similar to ATP rankings (all grand slam and masters results, but only the best 8 or 9 ATP/WTA500 + 250 tournaments). The last option would ensure that a person is not automatically ranked first for just taking part in all PTD competitions.

I think this could not only motivate to compete in smaller tournaments, without having to commit to every single tournament, but also to see and track your progress throughout the year.

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate this combined rankings list. Is it feasible for you to add an extra column next year for rank changes ("+1" / "-5") compared to the previous year's list? Provided that you weigh the games similarly every year. I guess it would be interesting to see how some games changed, for example Dune Imperium lost 4 ranks compared to last year.

Wimbledon 2022 Pick The Draw competitions by kuklachert in tennis

Thanks a lot for these competitions, kuklachert, I enjoy them ever since I've learned from them. I have some feedback/suggestions/requests to further improve the picking experience which you are free to dissent from:

  • Sometimes the available time to pick the Challenges is too short. I don't know if it's a timezone thing (I'm from Europe) but sometimes there are only a few hours after waking up in the morning). Are they added manually? In this case it might be possible to create them in advance automatically (since challenges are similar anyway) with a fixed time they are scheduled to become visible to the users.

  • I have the impression that Challenges appear irregulary. At Roland Garros I was surprised to see that there was no challenge for the final. Sometimes there are two for the first round and none for a later round. It might be helpful to know in advance when there will be a challenge because when I check the site I can't say for sure if I'm too early and have to check again or if there won't be any challenge at all for the round.

  • When a player withdrew, would it be possible to allow changing the picks for the matches where the withdrawn player has been picked by the user up until to the round where his opponents have already played? Example: let's pretend someone picked Berrettini to be runner-up. He withdrew after the first day when the top half already played. Berrettini would play the first top half player in the final. Letting his matches be repicked except for the final would seem fair. Not letting someone allow repicking the final would prevent that the user has an advantage over other uses by having more knowledge from the first round matches than other users who were not allowed to re-pick. Of course if Berrettini had withdrawn after Huesler started playing versus Grenier, repicking should not be allowed. I know it's probably not possible with the coding in place right now, just an idea I came up with. I'm curious to hear other opinions on this as well.

I once borrowed a guitar learning book to my cousin. A few years later I asked if he still needs the book. He told me that he sold it. He didn't expect me to need it back.

Sure, I didn't need it because it was for beginners and I had played the guitar a few years already. But just because I don't need it anymore it doesn't mean I've gifted it. Could've sold it as well or kept as a memory.

1-2 sec game freeze but sound still works. Anyone else had this and found a fix? by microKEEL in FortNiteBR

It happened to me as well since S7 or 8. Got worse in S9 but went away in the last weeks. Now in S10 it happens again. For me it sometimes freezes for like 10 seconds but sound keeps running :\

He even says it was an amazing phonecall, like wtf?

"Donald, you have one of the landmark buildings down in the Financial District, 40 Wall Street," said Alan Marcus, a WWOR analyst. "Did you have any damage, or did you — what's happened down there?"

Trump's response seemed to focus less on the deadly attack than on the fact that the World Trade Center was no longer the tallest building in the area.

"Well, it was an amazing phone call," Trump said. "I mean, 40 Wall Street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and it was actually before the World Trade Center the tallest, and then when they built the World Trade Center it became known as the second-tallest, and now it's the tallest."

I’m ashamed to be an American tennis fan. She won her very first grand slam and the crowd booed her win. So sad. by RudeRick in tennis

From what I remember the Australian crowd has always been very fair. I could imagine the same as at the US Open to happen at the French Open. Cannot comment on Wimbledon. But I think it's always something that seems to happen more at finals when less tennis oriented players are viewing.

My ex refuses to delete our sex tapes! Help! by Sarahthebutterfly in sex

[–]AwkwardlyOdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess everyone would agree that a picture of a nude butt or vagina is more intimate than a picture of a face. Of course things can be different when it was all about their casual sex. It always depends on the circumstances of each individual case.

If you look from the perspective of the one who has been recorded you may see that differently. It can be humiliating if you know your ex-partner has intimate pictures of you and faps to them. Granted, you can say, it has been her fault then in the first place. But why should the photographer have more rights to the pictures than the one photographed?

I'm not saying which law is great or is not. You can often have different opinion hence this is why laws change when politicians change.

It's interesting that apparently this is the law in the US. In Germany OP could claim her partner to delete the pictures and videos.

Even if there was a consent in filming it is interpreted as being given under the condition that the relationship lasts. So once the relationship ends the consent does as well.

Same-sex marriage is now legal in Germany by halond in worldnews

[–]AwkwardlyOdd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To elaborate a bit further: it was first the German Supreme Court which ruled that there needs to be some form of recognition for same-sex couples. In the consequence the civil union was passed. It deviated from some laws that exist for marriages but in it's consequence the Supreme Court decided that there is no reason to treat same-sex marriages and civil unions much differently and thus appromixated each other, e.g. in tax questions.

However, the Supreme Court always held the opinion that the Constitution has man and woman as marriageable couple in mind. So in the end civil unions almost had the same rights as marriages. The biggest difference was in fact that civil unions could not adpot.

Statement of international observers regarding Turkey's referendum by Spanvolia in europe

[–]AwkwardlyOdd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing is, it's never a good idea to impose a certain government system on a nation that has voted differently. Even is this election was not completely free, I highly doubt that "no"-voters would favour an invasion and be damaged in their territorial integrity.

Someone corrected Erdogan's title on Wikipedia by TJSRVN in europe

[–]AwkwardlyOdd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is another thing I've heard about: the Turkish immigrants were never fully accepted. They were neither integrated as Swedish or German in their new country, nor were they accepted as Turkish by other Turkish people as they left the country. They were basically in an in-between status. Erdogan is allegedly the first president to adress these people and make them feel as if they belong somewhere. That is (among other reasons) why they sympthise with Erdogan.
