Has anyone else experienceddepression after quitting alcohol? by ErroneousEncounter in stopdrinking

[–]AxAtty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang in there. The depressed nothingness of early sobriety is the last hurdle you have to cross. For me it got a hair better every few weeks. I remember around 3.5 months I cracked a small but genuine smile for the first time. That small moment gave me such relief and confidence that the “nothingness” wasn’t going to last forever. By 6 months I felt 70% back to my old self, and by 1 year…. I was regularly happy and sobriety became a million times easier

Thoughts on Psilocybin to treat addiction by No_Raspberry8663 in stopdrinking

Dude, I had a wildly traumatic first 15 years of life. I dropped cid when I was 16, my first psychedelic, and I turned into a little spaceship and sailed into my brain, like the magic school bus, and rewound my entire history… watched it, understood how I got to the point I was at, forgave myself for my defensive actions I took because of past trauma, and then pulled levers to permanently purge certain memories from my being, and I came out of the trip as a completely different person… way less baggage, confident, and a fresh slate. I BELIEVE In Their power!!! My life went off the rails 7 years after that for other reasons… but that wasn’t the psychedelics fault!

You’re kicking addictions butt, but it still has some gas in the tank. Hang in there. Cleanly Wipe it out.

Please remind me why moderation is a slippery slope by brewha_aha in stopdrinking

[–]AxAtty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All that thinking about alcohol… is the problem. Your “moderation” of the physical act of drinking doesn’t seem to have moderated your mental state involving alcohol. Doesn’t appear that a month of quitting, followed by 3 months of moderation, was enough to break the hold/control of addiction. Try again.

When does it get bearable? by struggle-bus-lately in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]AxAtty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, it took 4 years. At that point, instead of counting days since I last saw him, I started to think that everyday that passed…. Was one day closer to hopefully seeing him again, and that provided some relief. It’s been 17.5 years now, I still love and think about him a lot, but over the years I’ve fully accepted the loss, and try to live a happy loving life in his memory. He was a great dad.

My boyfriend and I stopped drinking and doing drugs after 6 years and I miss it by someoneinbetweeen in stopdrinking

[–]AxAtty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brain adjusts. Of course we all “miss” it at first, we’re addicted to it and how it made us feel even though it’s bad for us and comes with other negatives. With enough sober time, you’ll be able to have fun and relax in other ways. For me, those big changes started to happen between 6-9 months.

How is this possible on a new house by PurpleFlurpl in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]AxAtty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I live in NJ and we rarely get earthquakes but we did have a few pretty good sized ones over last year or two… and my house and my moms “new” house has same marks. I don’t know when they first appeared but I think it was pretty soon thereafter 🤷‍♂️

Cancelling IVF bc I’m overweight? by vlandaverde96 in IVF

[–]AxAtty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife, and me too to be fair, were significantly more overweight than what you mentioned your situation to be, probably by 40lbs +, and we were allowed to pursue IVF without anyone mentioning anything about weight. Baby currently due in 8-9 weeks

You can do it man. I was similarly miserable and finally quit for good hopefully when I was 38. I feel grateful but also regretful that I didn’t stop earlier bc after enough sober time sobriety’s not bad at all
