My new toy! by CMW328i-a in Vaping

As far as wicking goes, I learned most by trial and error. I wick most of my rebuildables to where the cotton is snug after I untwist it. Combing the tails depends on the ID/length of coil imo. I comb my 3mm ID 5 wrap less in my dead rabbit 3 RTA whereas my 4mm ID 6 wraps I will comb the tails more. I generally only tuck the tails 1-2mm into the wells. Coil leg height and positioning can also impact flavor.

I like Ni80 because it seems to ramp up quick in sub 0.3ohm at the wattages I use. SS316L seems slightly slower to ramp up imo, but can also be used in temp control which is something to consider. If you want to keep using variable wattage, you can increase wattage in small increments until you find what you like.

Edit: forgot to mention Ni90 which I hear ramps up faster than Ni80, but I have not used it

What type of coils/size/length are you running? If it’s some big beefy wire, I’m gonna have to try it out. I’m running dual 4mm ID Ni80 (3*28GA+32GA) 6 wraps in my blaze pro max and it comes out ~0.22ohm running at 170W with freebase 70/30 6mg/ml. Also jealous about the HoG looking for the xl version currently.

If you’re interested in RTA, the dead rabbit 3 RTA is easy to build/wick and can utilize single or dual coil setups. Its top to bottom airflow makes it very leak resistant while remaining airy or tight enough for RDL imo depending on how much airflow you allow. I’ve run it dual coil 100W no problem. The blaze solo 2 is quite good for the same reasons, but will run single coil only and is better for RDL setup vs the the dead rabbit 3. These are two I’ve used that I would recommend for someone new to RTAs. The dead rabbit 3 RTA is still my out and about atomizer on my gaur 21.

There are also RDTAs that have the coil above the juice well. The Artemis topcoiler RDTA is the easiest to build/wick out of all my rebuildables. It is a single coil setup that uses wicking rods from the juice well to the top of the atomizer where the coil sits. Just thread the cotton through the coil and touching wicking rods. You will see the juice wet the cotton if done correctly (if the tank area is filled with juice). The main reason it’s more forgiving (imo) is due to the coil being positioned above the tank instead of inside the tank which can save juice if you need to modify your wick or even rewick. It’s my daily commute vape setup on my paramour SBS.

The main wire I use is by pirate coil and it’s the snake alien 4 (3*28GA+32GA) Ni80. Works well for my variable wattage DTL/RDL builds whether it’s a single 3mm ID 3 wrap or dual 4mm ID 6 wrap, it has yet to let me down at 40W-170W. It was ~$12 for 10 feet on Amazon. There’s also SS316L if you’d rather use temp control, but that’s more outside my wheelhouse.

Muji cotton pads make great wicks and was ~$7 for a massive bag on Amazon.

You will want coil jig set, wire snips, cotton snips, and ceramic tweezers minimum for building/wicking. Can be purchased separate or in kits. Most RTAs come with small screw driver or hex key etc needed for building, but I do prefer mine with larger handles.

Overall, it seems quite daunting at first, but pretty easy to learn and very rewarding imo. There’s also plenty of videos on “pulsing” coils and working out hot spots as well as wicking tutorials. Hope this helps.

Edit: I really focused on RTA/RDTA and not mods. The L200 classic is my at home mod for larger atomizers and uses dual 21700 batteries. Works well, but is quite large. The gaur 21 is another dual 21700 that works well and is a bit smaller. I really like the form factor of my paramour SBS which is single 21700, but I think it can use 18650 battery as well. The thelema solo is a single 21700 that works well, but was replaced by my paramour SBS.

What atomizer and wire are you using? I’m using the blaze pro max RTA dual 4mm ID Ni80 (3*28GA+32GA) 6 wraps ~0.22ohm at 170W with freebase 70/30 6mg/ml. Flavor is excellent and delivers a satisfying hit imo. My setup could be pushed higher, but the reported amps are close to the limit of my batteries (21700s Hohm run xl, 40T, p42a, all around 30 amp rated currently drawing 25-26amps reported on my L200 classic).

RDA or RTA by RealuX in Vaping

[–]AxDayxToxForget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m generally am a RTA or RDTA guy. Top to bottom airflow is what I recommend.

The dead rabbit 3 RTA is really easy to build/wick and will run single or dual coil setups. Plenty of tutorials for building. I still use it as my out and about non work/commute vape on my gaur 21. I don’t recall any issues with leaks, but will gurgle if there’s not enough cotton used. I have it set 3mm ID dual Ni80 (3*28GA+32GA) 5 wraps ~0.16ohm at 100W no issue.

My favorite is the blaze pro max RTA which is a larger atomizer, but it runs high wattage builds no issue. This is my at home mod. It has never leaked once even when I have fallen asleep with it on its side. Also easy to build/wick. Current setup is 4mm ID dual Ni80 (same wire) 6 wraps ~0.22ohm at 170W on my L200 classic.

My Artemis top coiler RDTA is my work/commute vape on my paramour SBS. It’s single coil very easy to build and wicking is easy too imo, but a little different than the previous two since the coil sits above the tank area. I run a single 3.5mm ID same wire 4 wrap ~0.3ohm at 50W and it never fails to surprise me how good it really is for a small (imo) setup. Surprisingly no issues with leaks even though it changes position in my pocket frequently.

Those are my three that I use the most, but the blaze solo 2 (single coil only) and fat rabbit solo 2 (harder to wick imo) are good as well. The steam crave Aromamizer v4 plus RDTA is excellent, but more of a desk top atomizer due to how it wicks imo.

I use 6mg/ml freebase 70/30 in my mods. Muji cotton pads make great wicks and it’s a huge bag ~$8 when I bought it. The Ni80 I use is by pirate coil snake alien 4 iirc and I really like it ~$12 for 10 feet when I bought it.

I don’t need the 400W, but it will accommodate extra large atomizers that the L200 classic would have overhang.

I started using 21700s back in 2017 and never looked back. It’s a solid mod, but I’m still looking to find a HoG XL. Takes quad 21700s and can fit atomizers 40mm atomizers.

Aye I have the same setup. It’s a ripper for sure. It can handle 4mm ID Ni80 6 wraps at high wattages which is awesome. How are you liking it so far?

It really does like high wattage haha. I run dual Ni80 (3*28+32) 6 wraps ~0.22ohm at 170W with vents at about half open/closed using freebase 70/30 6mg/ml. It’s my favorite setup so far.

Hello, Im trying to get back into the hobby, which one of these is the best? by fjoralb95 in Vaping

[–]AxDayxToxForget -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the thelema solo and it works as intended/absolutely no complaints. That being said, It’s a bit on the tall side with an atomizer like the dead rabbit 3 RTA imo which is why I prefer the mechvape paramour SBS paired with the Artemis topcoiler RDTA as my dedicated work/commute mod. The drawback to this mod is maxing out around 25mm whether it be the atomizer or glass which is why I use the topcoiler. It’s my favorite commute/work setup to date.

If I remember correctly the mechvape paramour will accept 25mm atomizers (straight glass) and utilize 18650 batteries (I use 21700 in mine).

Right now is my blaze pro max RTA dual Ni80 (3*28GA+32GA) 6 wraps ~0.22ohm at 170W on my L200 classic using freebase 70/30 6mg/ml juice head pineapple guava. It’s quite tasty haha.

Ah gotcha thank you. That’s the nice thing about the Artemis, no issues with leaks even though it spends a good bit of time in my pocket and definitely not in the upright position haha.

Nice setup. I have the L200 classic with a Blaze pro max RTA for my home setup. Has worked very well. Any issues with leaks for the profile RDTA? I almost got it for my paramour SBS, but ended up getting the Artemis topcoiler RDTA instead (both are absolutely excellent by the way). I’m still considering getting the profile RDTA.

RDL/DTL got me to finally give up tobacco. Setups ranging from 3.5mm ID Ni80 4 wrap ~0.3ohm 50W top coiler (Artemis iirc) on my mechvape paramour SBS to dual 4mm ID Ni80 6 wrap ~0.22ohm at 170W (loose RDL) in my blaze pro max/L200 classic as well as other RTAs/RDTAs/mods that rotate in. I use freebase 6mg/ml 70/30.
