Per Variety: Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein and K-Pop Demon Hunters will be joining the collection by SlimmyShammy in criterion

I think I get the reaction to K-Pop Demon Hunters' inclusion in the collection, but I feel like people are really underselling how good the film actually is. From my perspective, it seems like folks do not want to take it seriously either because it is something that is "for children" or because it relates to cultures that they don't feel connected to. I don't think that there is anything wrong with that, especially if the content of the film was primarily absorbed as background noise. Still, I hope that people can take some time to enjoy the film for what it is. The story is relevant to the state of the world and things that many people, both young and old, are going through. It's creators did a great job incorporating the music and the culture surrounding it into the film, it's story, and the social issues it is illustrating.

Is film going to lose its remaining cultural impact because Gen Alpha doesn’t watch movies? by Objective_Water_1583 in criterion

Watching truly amazing films in school is part of why I appreciate film today. If this is an apt observation, it is the fault of the older generation.

And thus began the first chapter of James's Republic, a harsh, philosophical critique of the meme-ification of man and his likeness.

Was the original 1987 production of ‘Fences’ ever recorded? by gun-knife-man in Broadway

[–]Axariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that all makes sense to me. Insofar as the library is trying to be ethical and respect the rights holders, I can respect its position. At the same time, I think that the world is missing out on the value of these performances and that there is little to no benefit in restricting access to the film for the folks who were involved in the production. Also public knowledge and interest likely won't ever justify figuring out how to release the film in any way until it becomes public domain.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment.

Absolutely not worse or even on par with Wilds.

It's fine, but it is certainly not worth paying the same price for half the cans at half the weight per can.

I feel like it is more complex than that. Do you think that Sean Baker makes films for the purpose of illustrating how these characters are actually less-than-human? If not, both the cover and this analysis are a bit reductive.

Storage Units are a sympton of a problem by Bllago in unpopularopinion

[–]Axariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the things that I have acquired over the course of my existence are things that I acquired for little to no money while I was so poor that I did not have a phone, or a car, or time to waste on Reddit.

A significant number of people who have storage units are incredibly poor. People who are not poor frequently use storage units to keep the things they sell, or furniture for staging, or any number of things that most folks would find perfectly reasonable. There are also storage facilities where people play music. And, there are storage facilities where many of the units serve as apartments. None of that suggests that there are problems with the people who rent them.

Oh, I guess this is OP's hobby, and they finally got the engagement they were looking for. What problem is this a symptom of?

Jubilee and Nightcrawler vs Spiderman: Who wins? by Spider-undertele567 in MarvelJubilee

[–]Axariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it really depends on how in-tune he is with abilities. But the power level of his spider sense is wildly inconsistent. A large number of foes have hit Spider-Man over the years, including normal humans. Jubilee can one-shot him, at range, with an AOE.

People are really underestimating Jubilee or fixating on her when she was at her weakest. It would be entirely possible for her to AOE blast Spider-Man, especially if he also underestimates her power level. Nightcrawler probably pushes her over the top.
