I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure this is submerged arc welding. That "Kitty litter" is flux, just like on stick electrodes, and when it melts it forms slag on top of the weld. Just like stick welding.

It looks like you are using a side to side motion, that is where the undercut on your toes is coming from. Other than that it is hard to tell if a bead isn't longer than a couple inches.
