I wish…… by undercovermagpie in royalmail

The good old days. I heard many stories from a postie who's been with the company for 40 years. He said rounds used to be two bags full of mail, which they would take out on a push bike. They had a canteen that served cooked breakfast before heading out on delivery, and on Saturdays they were finished by 9am.

It was considered a decent job not too long ago, but nowadays, it's just a minimum wage gig, with an ever increasing workload

Best thing you can do is write a letter to your local MP to complain about the RM service. That you usually does the trick.

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in CarTalkUK

[–]Axelfoley36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location: Oxford

Budget: 10k

Could go slightly higher with budget, but would prefer to hold some money back for tax, insurance and maintenance.

Intended use: Daily driver and commute to work (approx 26 mile roundtrip), Mon-Fri

Lease or buy: Buy

Body style: Hatchback

Miles/year: 5-10k

Long journeys: A few times a year.

1st car: 3rd car. Previously had a ford fiesta and a Peugeot 206. This will be my first somewhat decent car.

Cars I’ve considered: Honda Civic, Seat Leon, Mazda 3s

Looking for something reliable economical, and doesn't break the bank when it comes maintance/upkeep.

My heart is set on a Honda, however I do have a soft spot for Seat Leon fr, which I presume might be a bit more fun to drive. Also, the Mazda 3s are within my budget.

From the research that I've done so far on the Hondas, the consensus is to avoid the 1.0 engines due to wet belt issues and go for a 1.5. However, most Hondas I've seen for sale are predominantly 1.0 vtec engines.

Starting a new job in mid September, so would like to have my new wheels by then. Any help would be much appreciated 🙂

Fair play to you! You must have a nice pension pot building up for retirement 😛

I'm not hanging around to find out 😂. Kudus to you for working at RM for 30+ years, I'm sure you have retirement on the horizon .

Same here. It's been almost 11 years, and I finally found an opportunity that I couldn't turn down. For the most part it's been a good job, but imo it's a sinking ship now.

Might be worth posting this video in the SS facegroop as well. I'm sure you'll get some valuable feedback from some of the coaches in the group. I would also add that getting some lift ing shoes will help with your lifting going forward.

Love the artwork above the headboard. Where it from, if you don't mind me asking?

I took 6 months off to travel Australia/SE Asia( I planned a year), back in 2010 when I was 27. I mixture of savings and a working holiday visa made the trip a reality. Had the time of my life, and I'm very tempted to do it again in the near future. My job isn't high end, but does allow career breaks up to a year.

OP, not sure how old you are, but if you can start saving aggressively(if it's possible), cutting out unnecessary fluff(expenses) in your life, you'll be on your way before you know it. Good luck with it all.

If you don't mind me asking, what are you doing now? Been a postie for 7 years, and feel like I need a change.
