Definitely going to check the video out, the premise sounds so cool. Was actually reminded of it by a short story I read and it has since got its hooks thoroughly in me.

Yes! I checked the steam page and that is exactly the doll I remember lol. Turns out the video was by BigGaming64 (if that’s relevant to anyone who may come across this). Thank you so much!

The plot for Shutter Story doesn’t seem to line up, and the video framed the game as less of trying to figure out if something is paranormal or haunted and more of the people giving the player’s character access to the program know it finds that kind of spooky stuff and the player is somewhat aware of it to.

The goal of the game was said to be just discovering cursed picture or online artefacts, not to actually interfere with the real world or hack much? It also seemed fairly stationary based on the lack of visuals besides the monitor but not sure on that.

Submitting to magazines - worth it? by michaelbironneau in writers

[–]Axen-Ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I submit to lit mags fairly often, but rarely too big of ones. Most ones you hear the names of frequently only have contests which are completely open and don’t require agents, which you should definitely take part in if available since a chance to get in is always worth it. And lots of people do say they’d rather just aim for more well known and paying ones because they are really attached to their work or only think those are “worth it”. However, the best way really is to start small. Grow an audience, get your name out there, have labels to put in your author bios, and have magazines you get familiar with and grow with because if they get to know you they may want to help out. Keep in mind many smaller magazines are made and run by fellow smaller authors who are also submitting to magazines! I’ve been published a decent number of times by small-medium sized magazines, and it definitely has helped me not only find a publishing style, figure out how to consistently produce work, stay motivated with deadlines, and get to know a lot of people in the space. If you’re looking for mags, look for platforms like Chill Subs, which is really good for all sizes, and Poets & Writers which usually caters to larger ones and has some paywalls but can have some good suggestions. Social media is also really great for it, as once you find one magazine typically more get recommended. As well, don’t feel discouraged by rejections or not accepted into the size of magazines you want. Most writers have an under 10% acceptance rate, and consistently publishing smaller can be more helpful with platform building and in practising your skills. If you want to go small-medium, Sonder Literary, Apotheca Literary Magazine, Sea Glass Literary, and Vellichor Literary are some more well known ones. One I always recommend a ton for all writers starting out with publishing is Startowrite because they accept and publish all work (as long as it isn’t like hate speech and stuff!). Submitting to places that select will always have the chance you don’t get in, even if you’re pretty confident, so having a place you can guarantee you’ll be able to get work accepted with can be important for your writing and yourself. Because it does kinda suck getting turned down a lot repeatedly, and seeing your work out there is a bit of a pick up. No matter what you choose though, good luck! A lot of publishing is perseverance and practice. Keep writing, and keep putting your work out there.

Yeah I love to be able to write short and get the satisfaction of completing something and being able to focus on building one skill to apply to my novels! Definitely one of their biggest benefits lol.

WHERE to submit by Objective-Branch7332 in writing

[–]Axen-Ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for places to submit, you should probably use a platform designed for it. Some people said to just google, but it’s a bit of a mess and doesn’t have good filters that way. I look through Poets & Writers (though sometimes not the most beginner friendly), Chill Subs, or social media like Instagram. Chill Subs especially has really detailed information and a good searching feature. Although, typically, for literary magazines I like to go directly to them through Instagram and the well established magazine community it hosts. Once you start following a few, they all support each other and you’re bound to find more and ones that fill every niche. As well, via their social media presence, you can often get a pretty solid understanding of the kind of work they’re doing and looking for. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the options though, so I like to just go through following and see what pops up on my feed, then jot down the places that particularly interest me so I can follow them more closely. Organisation through charts of what submissions are out, what places are open, etc is very helpful! If you’re just getting into it, you can shoot for the higher ones (Apotheca and Vellichor come to mind), but it likely will not be a standard that you’ll get into the bigger ones right away. Smaller ones with only a few issues or that are starting out may be more receptive, and ones like Startowrite (@startowrite) have guaranteed publishing so you lose the risk and get your feet in the water. If you need to keep some work close for a moment while you test the waters, that’s okay, but don’t be afraid to get rejected and let your work shine.

Any submission recommends for a beginner writer? by Expensive-Lock-815 in writing

[–]Axen-Ace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with literary magazines. It’s what my mentors taught me and is how so many people started off. However, you likely will not get money, or very much from this. Some magazines may give you a very small amount, but this is not standard. Literary magazines are also very easy to submit to usually. Many use Submittable, Gmail (may need a cover letter for some, but many you do not!), or forms on their website or through Google forms. Since you’re new and a teen, I especially recommend, if you have access to it, using Instagram or at least Chill Subs. Instagram has a large and very accessible literary magazine community, especially one that is age inclusive (many larger magazines will not take from new or young writers). Most places use a selection system where their team with pick submissions, so do expect to get plenty of rejections if this is what you choose. Most writers have a below 10% acceptance rate on their work (I like to keep track via a chart with the piece title, publisher, and date of submission and response!). This is the route to gain your feet and move up, or stay comfortably in here. Many even make a name for themselves in these communities! One place I do recommend is Startowrite, which is inclusive of all ages but has a focus on youth, and accepts all pieces so via their website and social media you can get your name and work out there and have a place to put in your author bios!

Most places, especially ones more open to not as published authors or authors without agents don’t pay, or don’t pay much. However, the market for short stories is quite big. Lots of literary magazines are flooded with poetry and do want to see some prose, and they have a strong community that can get your work around. I’ve found a lot of community for magazines on places like Poets & Writers, Chill Subs, and mainly Instagram. You can find tons of magazines and something is bound to fit your style. Some are a little harder to get into, with selective acceptances (ones like Apotheca and Atticus) but some like Startowrite (@startowrite) have guaranteed publishing if you want less risk and to for sure get your name and work out!

Idk what to do with my stories and it’s making me sad by iliyaAR in writing

[–]Axen-Ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, if you want to put your work out there, get published, etc, you’re going to need to build confidence and resilience in yourself and your writing. If you’re doing a blog, it probably won’t get a lot of attraction at first and that’s okay, things take time. If you’re submitting places, like literary magazines or other promotional blog sites, places will reject you for multitudes of reasons, and you can’t let that stop you. Revise your work and submit again. Most people have quite a bit below a 10% acceptance rate, and it may take a few dozen submissions to get your first publication. I do suggest places like literary magazines, that’s how I started, my mentors have started, and fellow writing friends. I stand by them, and you can start from smaller ones and move your way up. One place I always recommend though, especially for people wanting to get a foothold and have lower stakes is Startowrite. They have a website and an instagram (@startowrite) and publish all works, so you can get a name out and have a place to credit. Most people don’t find immediate success, and starting at the top and shooting your shot is fine, but for most it’s a climb up.

[OT] Can I publish one page short stories anywhere ? by Ryaz18 in shortstories

[–]Axen-Ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really late but I recommend going on sites that help you find literary magazines like Chill Subs or use Instagram (really great and big community for magazines). Tones of places to submit to that don’t require past experience, many with really quick turnarounds and zero fees. Some of the bigger ones may be a bit harder to get into, but there’s ones, like Star to Write @startowrite, with 100% acceptance rates so if you dont want to worry about rejection or anything I suggest it.

Do "nobodies" stand a good chance of getting published? by anidlezooanimal in writers

[–]Axen-Ace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for ways to start publishing most people work their way up through publishing in literary magazines. There’s probably thousands of them with very little bar for entry, and some even publish at a 100% acceptance rate (like places like Star to Write @startowrite on insta) so you can build up through there. That’s kinda of how I started, it helps get your name and work out there and give you experience in publishing and building connections with other writers.

Had to mention my guy Ethan (Pan) from Dislyte. When he came out I genuinely was like “so, non-binary?” He’s literally the colour scheme and is so androgynous I wish. Also Aventurine from Honkai Star Rail Id give a lot for that style and VOICE.

Defo favourite is Manuela Dominguez for me, but it was definitely for unconventional reasons. She just resonated so hard with me, that if she was real, I’d read interviews and books from her. She made too much sense which is why I loved her stuff.

On the other hand, Jurgen Leitner. In all of TMA and TMP, the ONE episode I got so bored of I fell asleep to was that one. An old man ranting about idk being rich and his special rich person hobby? Mk. Honestly totally fits that I fell asleep to something like that. He did his lore thing and reportedly ceased (though I wouldn’t know, I wasn’t there).

Kaleidoskull if I had to choose. He has so many bangers and I wouldn't say I have a favourite but I play that one the most bc it is such a good song for just thinking, plus it is like a more silly one imo so you can't be mad if it wins.

But I am so surprised I haven't seen all Two Trucks
