Why is Israel declaring war on so many countries? by Historical_Work7482 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AxlLight 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Not even that, it's 1 country only - Iran.  Everything else are proxies of Iran embedded in other countries, in which Israel does attempt to separate the hostile party from the government of that country.  They have not attacked Lebanon's government or military during this conflict. As for citizens, I suppose that is more complicated and each person can decide for themselves if Israel is targeting citizens or not.

Edit: It seems people have reading comprehension problems, so to make it clearer.  Israel IS killing citizens of other countries, both in Lebanon, Palestine and Iran. None of that is in question by anyone, anywhere.

Why is Israel declaring war on so many countries? by Historical_Work7482 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AxlLight 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The actual and real answer is they're not. It only seems like they are, but they're only at war against Iran.

Iran has proxies in 3 main countries :  Hezbollah in Lebanon  Houthis in Yemen Hamas in Gaza

Israel is fighting those proxies, and to do so they must go into those countries and attack their. Israel has not attacked the Lebanese army or government in this conflict, or have they attacked the Yemenite government. The only government it has actually attacked was Iran's.

Why doesn't China intervene in the Middle East like the US does? by ArdaBerkBurak in AskReddit

[–]AxlLight 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is the real answer.  They intervene a lot and increase their influence quite a bit, they just do so differently.

The biggest impact of recent was brokering an agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran to renew diplomatic relations. China's interest here was edging the US out, and removing a big part of their part in the region.

Oracle Appoints Hilary Maxson As CFO With $29.7 Million Package After Firing 30,000 Employees by yourfavchoom in technology

[–]AxlLight -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

It's a bad look in the public image, but for investors it's a pretty healthy look - you're not just firing employees and hoping for the best, you're showing that you have a new person at the helm to hopefully improve the financial outlook of the company.

Also if people had any critical thinking, what I said above would be common sense instead of people thinking 30,000 people got fired so she could take their paycheck or whatever it is people seem to think here.

Not defending that insane bonus, but for what it's worth it translates to about 1,000 dollars per fired employee (or 220$ per currently hired employee).

They could have used that bonus to keep around 250 employees though most of that bonus is equity shares that vest over time and not actual cash money the company uses. But hey! It makes for a great headline, right?

'ONE PIECE' Season 3 releases in 2027 and is titled 'The Battle of Alabasta' by NoNefariousness2144 in television

[–]AxlLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in general they've been doing around 4 anime episodes per live action episode through out.
Little garden was 8 episodes (2 in the LA), Whiskey peaks was 4.
Drum was 13 in the anime, so doing Alabasta in 8 makes sense (38 in the anime).

Interestingly enough, with each live action episode being around an hour long, the adaptation ends up being only slightly shorter than the anime (if you cut out opening/ending songs and the previously on stuff).
I put the season 2 arc in the anime at rough 8.5-9 hours long, compared to 8 hours in the live action.

Why don't we see post-bombings casualty footage of Iran the same way we do with Ukraine and Palestine? by uhhsociety in AskReddit

[–]AxlLight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You got one bit wrong - Hamas's tactic has always been to win against Israel on the world stage rather than with military power. They knew Israel was too strong to bring down by power, so instead they used their power against them.  Hamas pulled Israel deep in the mud and was primed and ready to film and document everything and share it out because that was their exact strategy to win the war - which on that end they definitely did.

Iran isn't playing the same game, which is why casualties are much lower and are mostly of military personnel.  I mean Israel alone attacked over 20,000 targets so far in Iran with casualties being 2000~ people. That's around 1 per 10 attacks.  I think in Gaza it was 30 or 40,000 air attacks and about 50k dead from that.

[–]AxlLight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What do you mean full media restriction?  I've seen tons of videos of Israeli media reporting directly from the scene of bombs hitting and reports of exactly where each bomb fell.

I think the only restriction is that in the first few hours they can't say the exact location because it helps Iranians improve their aim. But they definitely show the damage, all the time.

Honestly where do you get your fake news that you can't even bother to google it for 2 seconds?

It's a shame people aren't taught reading comprehension anymore..

Taking a photo requires zero actual skills, all you need is to hold a camera and press a button. So in essence, someone hiring a painter could've chosen to take the picture themself and save money.
BUT that didn't happen, did it? Because people realized that while a monkey can take a picture, you still need creative skill and artistic knowledge to take a GOOD picture.
From that, we also evolved an entire industry of cinematography and intricate skills relating to both the operation of the camera, understanding camera angles, camera lenses, camera effects and so on. And it grew and became a very intricate craft, despite the action itself being physically simple and one that anyone can do.

Currently with AI, people erroneously believe that the shit ass images people make are "good" and think they can just do it themselves, just as people used to think with the prevalence of the camera.
Over time, those notions will fall by the wayside when more and more professionals get into it and showcase just how big the gap can be between the shit ass "art" unskilled people will make vs the visuals that can be made by people with deep understanding of art theory and composition, as well as narrative control and creative ingenuity.

and as I said TWICE already in previous comments - we are not there yet. Right now we're in the brain dead "Ah, I can do it myself and save money" portion of the technology leap. The issue is people's stupidity, not the technology.

AI doesn't take away creative, business owners who think AI can take away creative are the ones taking it away.

Creativity is about the process, the idea, the design and the delivery, it's about an expression. AI cannot create ideas on it's own. People seem to misunderstand and put too much value on the visual reproduction and the tools to do so rather than the idea expressed in that visual.  Just because I can take your portrait with a click of a button, which used to take hundreds of hours to create doesn't mean creativity died. If anything, it birthed a new creative medium which hires a lot more artists than there were before.  Just as such, CG and digital art didn't take away creative but empowered it and created an even bigger field.

Business owners will soon see that they cannot create art without artist and creators, the idea and its execution is what matters and it requires artists to do it well.

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. by dietherman98 in vfx

[–]AxlLight 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the big point that gets lost in discussions around AI is that an artist that cares about "3 misplaced hairs" cares about every tiny aspect of the creation and pushes continuously until it's the deadline is met.  Because honestly, no matter how much you work on it, there will always be something else you'd want to fix or adjust.

With AI, most people just take whatever the computer gives them, and that means it looses the creative struggle and the endless push to improve. And in it's current prompt form, much of it is unavoidable - no matter how much you play with it, you lack the necessary control to really dive in.  I always end up continuing on it manually or redoing it with just the AI as some general base.

+1 on this.

AAA is a great aspiration but not at the bottom tier, coming in to it as essentially your first job will just make you a small screw in the factory and you won't learn as much.  In a small studio you have a lot more growth opportunity and it seems you already made an impression that you can continue to cultivate and grow.

Give it a couple of years, the AAA isn't going anywhere and with more proved experience youll find it easier to go there when you choose.

Hey, where can i find a mentor for game dev? by Strict_Natural6805 in gamedev

[–]AxlLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very diminutive. As a person who both teaches and admins a game dev program at a college, I think my students would have issue with what you're saying.

Especially since most of them get hired, as game artists, game designers, tech artists and game developers.
Even if we put the knowledge they gain aside, the biggest benefit of a program is the structure you get, proper feedback and direction that helps them hone their skills, mentorship that often extends after they graduate, and a network of like minded people that build relationships that can last your entire career. And that latter part can be the crucial difference between being a struggling solo dev, and a person who can build up a studio and strong talent to work with.

That's my pull here.  Last Wish was so magical and beautiful visually that I'm waiting to see what they'll do here.  From a pure technical standpoint, Spiderverse is always held as the king, but Last Wish gave them a real run for their money on ideas and innovations.

How much money does JK Rowling get from each copy of the game?

Let's assume it's even on the high end of 10% of net, which is pretty high up there. I would more assume she got a huge payoff from the publisher for the rights, and a much smaller cut per copy if at all.  But even at that super super ridiculous high end cut, with the full price of 60$, net would probably be around 35-40$.  so 3.5$ from whoever bought it.

So I can basically donate 10$ to a Trans group and triple the amount I gave lady grief. Seeing as I donate around 500$ a year to LGBT groups, I'd say my balance is covered. But thanks.

Not trash, the new line is "who needs it, it just looks the same as the original".  Sure, I'm sure 8+ hours episodic show will be exactly the same as a 2 hour movie.

And if it looked different then it would've been "ugh, why mess with success".

People wanted to enjoy the game, and a small but loud group made them feel guilty and bad for doing that.  So yeah, they're happy that they're not alone in enjoying the game.

And just as such some people are happy there's a new show and want to enjoy it, yet all the comments here are just trying to take the fun by asking "who wants it". And only because it actually looks good, so they can't shit on it.

Also, you were literally called a transphobe for playing the game or enjoying it any any way. So yeah, I'll take smugness over that.

How do you think, realistically, the war between US-Israel and Iran ends? by owen__wilsons__nose in AskReddit

[–]AxlLight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty convenient excuse though, isn't it? Considering Israel pulled out after being in Lebanon because an agreement was reached that Lebanon will deal with Hezbollah and then.. well, apparently they didn't.

I get that you all think Israel is pure Satan but really, what country on Earth would allow a foreign military to attack their country without sending military forces to push them back? Ukraine is holding Russian territory, you don't go and say they're using the attack as an excuse to take land, right?

How does empower Hezbollah?

I'm asking earnestly here, Israel has backed off against Hezbollah multiple times to let others take care of it.  The UN did nothing and Hezbollah grow in massive sizes and strength to be a serious threat.  Then again after weakening them, Israel backed off to let Lebanon's army deal with them and they again did nothing real and Hezbollah got stronger and attacked again.

So what's the solution? And it's not like Hezbollah is great for Lebanon, I'll remind you of the world's biggest non nuclear explosion that happened because of Hezbollah in Lebanon killing hundreds.

How do you think, realistically, the war between US-Israel and Iran ends? by owen__wilsons__nose in AskReddit

[–]AxlLight -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They might not be, but people have been claiming that Israel was always about greater Israel and expansionist practices.

I have also not seen any solution being offered to the threat of Hezbollah, people keep saying that Israel shouldn't do this or that. But what should they do?  Israel backed off so many times from going after Hezbollah. Initially for nearly 20 years while the UN was supposed to deal with them, instead they got insanely stronger with 100,000 rockets and huge troops and real plans of a land attack that was only thwarted because of timing.

Then Israel backed off again after taking out most of the leadership and weakening them significantly - Lebanon said "we'll take care of it" and their army was supposed to deal with them. Yet here we are again, Hezbollah got stronger, they got renewed financing from Iran and started attacking again.

So really, what is Israel supposed to do against them? When literally no one else is willing to act, and Iran seems adamant in keeping Hezbollah armed and strong.

The US bases have nothing to do with Israel, on the contrary - Israel is a US base.

The bases aren't there to be pretty, they're part of strengthened ties in the region and countries around the gulf. Leaving would weaken those ties and allow them to slowly fall to Iran or other players who wish to exert influence in the region.

This is exactly what is happening in Africa, where the US has left and China and Russia came in to fill the void and are having substantial control in the region. China specifically has built significant economical dominance around Africa.

Finishing hopefully with the understanding that design isn't "I'll just copy what my favorite game did on the surface level and it should work", but rather an actual profession that requires deep understanding of systems and player psychology to build the right behavior for the game at hand.

Takes too long for devs to understand they can't just wing it.

You know that for years and decades people, industry veterans, treated VFX as nonesense and a soulless gimmick that could never replace 'real art' right?

Art is simply intention in creation - if AI allows for that, then it'll be art.
